Nice! Gave some nice ideas for venting while idling etc. Forgot a post by a member who showed different hood vents to install. Some cheaper alternatives than a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood.

I'm envious of all the other Tundras I see on the road that have functional transmissions...

I apparently missed it and am behind the curve. What happened to your stock transmission?

I smoked it, about three weeks ago. I really haven't said too much about it. When I do it makes me want to drowned my sorrows in an entire quart of Tillamook ice cream. All forward gears slip real bad, although reverse is fine and the fluid smells really burnt. I've asked IPT to build me one of their super duper units, I figure why fuck around.

Well shit man I'm truly sorry to hear. It's probably inevitable for me since I been fumbling around with transmission tables...... So I'll be looking to you guys when that day comes lol

I would get an IPT valve body upgrade if you don’t already. That’s likely all most transmissions need to stay alive (1k now vs 7k later).

That's what I was doing, although I don't know with any certainty that what I was doing was the cause. But I can say that I probably won't be tuning the converter to lock up in 3rd gear with the new one, even if I'm told that it can handle it.

This transmission does seem touchy, I can feel it especially on a new tune. I try to baby it until I feel smooth shifts but even at that sometimes It can be harsh on open throttle. I will take your advise and stay away from locking 3rd in HP.....for now

Shit 2.5 hours is pretty good  have your tuner make 5th and 6th always lockup and it'll solve the high temps

No, it was great. It felt like I had a close ratio 10-speed. I didn't touch 1st or 2nd, going into 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th the converter would briefly be unlocked and then lock up. I could feel it shift for each of those gears and then when it locked, I could feel it pull just a little bit harder. It was pretty cool.

I have a fair amount of towing on mine and plenty of WOT, about 20k on the truck since being supercharged and knock on wood no issues yet. My trans tables are basically stock. Planning to keep up with 30k trans service, and really should do the IPT valve body. The trans shifts good as new for now though….

I’m also consistently on 34”+ tires with stock gears and 6500lbs on the scales. Not the easiest on the trans.

When I talked with John at IPT last week he said really no reason to lock up in 3rd or 4th. Maybe lock 4th for tow haul for hills.
It's the 2-3 clutch plates that usually burn up.

I have nearly 83k on mine being sc'd and tow often and sit at 6600lbs when empty with my 33" heavy Coopers and stock gears as well...I can feel my tranny getting tired a bit...I think...slips a little but still shits and gets while towing no problem...the longer I own it, the better my mpg gets too...that can be a loose tranny scenario too...all in all, happy accidents if I need a new tranny sometime...I feel the clock will tick faster when I update to the Sniv 2.2, injectors and fuel pump...hobbies are expensive!

    I'm confused.

I tow an 8k RV 2x per year. Roughly 1600 miles. I always run in 4th. I'm pretty sure the trans is locked. Pan temp is always 15* or so cooler than the engine coolant temp.

Isn't easier on the trans when the TC is locked up? The truck has no issue running 3k RPMs for those miles.

I've tried running in 5th, but any hills just makes it not worth it with down shifts and lugging.

My average is 9.6 mpg. I can't find a reason to complain about that.

I have no issue running 68 mph. The truck loves that speed.

Some of the higher passes here I drop to 2nd/3rd and let it rip. I don't usually tow in drive though unless I'm flat. Seems to work well in tow

Normal converter temp 4th is not locked. In normal hot above 257 deg 4th locks at 2300rpm until it cools below 239 deg.

I thought it was usually locked in 4th. Is my SG3 lying to me when it says my TC is locked when in 4th? Cause it usually is saying locked and the trans temp stays cool when it is, at least in S4 for sure. I’ve also seen 4th unlocked if I was in 5th and the load was high so it downshifted to 4th and it doesn’t lock up right away. I can then watch the rpm’s (and temps) drop as it locks in 4th. Granted, I’m watching pan temps not converter temps.

I would've agreed with you, but I just pulled up a stock tune and Normal and Tow Haul there is no 4th gear lockup. If the trans is hot OR in sport mode OR cruise control then 4th has lockup.
