I didn’t. You add a quart and a half of fresh fluid. Between only having 20k miles on the older fluid and diluting the older fluid with some fresh (bro science, idk if that’s exactly how it works), it seems like you should be fine to wait until a natural interval.

Bro science works for me. Ill also judge it by color of fluid to I guess.

You absolutely can, you'll have to do the check procedure after the cooler install so you can simply add 5 quarts instead of 4.

Mine looked pretty dark, but I’ve read on here that this fluid gets ugly in a hurry.

"Should you" is a tough question. You towed, but how often are you doing it and what is the highest temps you see on average? I tow at 8k lbs in the mountains and pretty much drain/fill anytime I'm cracking the system for any reason, because as Joe said, you're already going through the process and it's not really much extra time, just $$$. That said, even at severe duty, the fluid is good for something like 40 or 60K.

You can also check your degradation value and see what the computer thinks. Enjoy the cooler!

I'm definitely thinking along the same lines as you. If I'm already there and working on it, I'm going to dump the fluid. I just wanted to get different option's and see what people think. I have towed 4k at most from 900 to 3400 feet in elevation. I don't do a lot of towing regularly. unfortunately, didn't have my scanner then so I don't know how hot it really got. Highest I have recorded was 230 at 65 degrees ambient temp and that was empty.

At $25 per gallon, Valovoline Maxlife ATF makes it very difficult to not do spills and fills every so often. I do mine every 30k miles, no towing though.

230 is on the high side of the normal range. Nothing wrong with changing the fluid while you are there but your existing fluid is just fine.

I've seen mine ('15 squendra) idle in high heat around 185 (trans) but when driving some moderate stop go it'll get to 248 for a fews secs then ease down to 230 at lights but back up as soon as movement starts. And that's because it supposedly has a factory cooler of sorts via the A-C.

So is it possible to cool the trans down to around 200 (engine is always 190-195) via an external in-line cooler or will the "warm it up fast" Toyota process keep it high no matter what ?

Thanks again to Genuine cooling systems. I installed my kit yesterday everything went great. I did a drain and fill at the same time. I took 4.5 out stock fill. Put 6 back in got .5 after getting to check temps. To be honest i was a bit apprehensive about doing it but it was a breeze. Thanks again.

Dumb question - Will this help a '15 that seems to run in the 230-245 in just normal stop go conditions ? I'd prefer it stay much closer to 200. Thanks.

Does your Sequoia have an ATF cooler?

The temps seem to indicate there is not one. Or if one is installed, the thermostat may be faulty.

Yes the type that uses the AC. In hot summers when its 100 out while idling it will achieve the same or slightly lower than the engine's almost always constant 194. Steady highway also will run similar if not slight higher temps but stop go repeated will easily get it to 230 and for a few seconds to mid upper 240s which will come down pretty fast to 230 at stops - but that sure is higher than I read many on here say they get.

Will pinning it help any or will the system counter that ? I've also thought of adding an in-series cooler to the mix.

if steady highway is around 194, you’re probably ok and thermostat working. Around town driving does bump the temps.

it is possible to add a second cooler form extra capacity.

Pinning really won’t help if your thermostat is already working properly.

Would this be beneficial to add now, when I won't be towing until maybe 3-4 years from now? I have a few year plan to move to a place where I would have the need to tow a trailer and a bunch of other things. I don't know if it is worth getting it now, or waiting until I will actually start towing sometime in the future.

Thank you! I didn't know if the transmission liked running on the cooler end or not; that was really my concern because I thought I read somewhere that a cold transmission is also bad.

I didn't mean ice cold LOL. That's "cold" is relative to the application. Even at 170 with a cooler, I just didn't know if that was harmful or not, but thanks for confirming! I'll have to look into getting one of these.

You can have your desktop CPU run 50 degrees celsius at 100% utilization, and that's considered "cold". Temperatures reaching 90+ degrees celsius is considered "hot".

Hopefully we will have a small batch available near the end of next week. We should have a larger batch available in the first week of July. Certain parts are hard to get in right now so please be patient with us. Thanks!

Get it now, the whole powertrain is out of production. It will only get more difficult to obtain parts later.

I have a lot of comfort knowing I have it under my hood. Don't do a lot of towing yet, but soon, wanted to be prepared.

Hey everyone, our waitlist for the kits are getting very long so wanted to drop an update here to everyone. Right now Setrab is having some inventory issues, we are trying to get as much in as we can but its slowly trickling in. As usual, Toyota parts come in spurts, but for once they are not the issue. So bear with us, we will be back in stock soon. Its possible we may have a very small batch (5 kits) released later this week depending on what arrives. We are hoping to have a larger batch arrive later next week. Thank you all for your patience!

All of the install instructions reference leveling the frame, I assume due to the ATF overflow step. I have an RAS induced rake and have Jack stands at max in the front. Level as I can get it.

is this enough or should I stop and run to harbor freight?
