I keep posting this hood, it'd be perfect for Turbo situations! It has a forced air inlet that dumps air over the Turbo area. As well as louvers to vent hot air towards the rear of the hood. I'm gonna beat this dead horse until I see it on a rig here lol

@TurboKits.com drop ship this from your site as a recommended ad on, idk stage 3? lol

I am actually going to cut a hole in the hood on our 2014, right here and see what it does!

Now that you mention it I thought the Tundra does a temp check too or takes temps into account though I am not aware of an oil temp sensor.

It does, I got a CEL when I installed the Mishimoto thermostat and housing. I can't recall what it was, but something to do with not getting to temp when expected.

It's not checking the oil temp, but rather checking timing values, etc at 180* coolant temp. With a 160* thermo, it doesn't get up to temp in time for it to check, so it throws a code for bad Oil Control Valve. Nothing is actually wrong, other than the ECU not getting the temps it wants during the check.

I bet it was OCV or some timing code.

I forgot I have a Mishimoto thermostat & silicon hoses to install when I get around to the Radiator that has been sitting for a year. I have no clue where in the garagehole they are.

    lol

So is it that the sensor doesn't have a PID?
It may be your situation I'm recalling about running too cool.

    Not sure I follow?

The CEL referred to something not being up to temp when expected, I should have taken a picture of the code like I usually do, but the gist was that the ECU cross-checks the ambient air temp with the coolant temp and if it doesn't get to temp when it should it trips the CEL.

Thank you for clarifying. Maybe throwing P0117 or related?

RE: PID is the oil sensor readable? Does it have an address? I think some of the other engine temp reading are derived.

The oil temp is available as a channel in HPTuner's software, so it should have a PID, although not sure how it's derived since I thought there was only a pressure sensor. P0117 doesn't sound familiar, I don't recall it mentioning a sensor specifically...but it was a couple years back.

Not really talking about pressure but it is possible it could be used for some engine temp calc.
I think it was noted the coolant or oil temps (don't remember which) are derived from something else, discussed on some of the OBD reader threads.

I was just saying, to my knowledge, there is only an oil pressure sensor, and that I believe the oil temp is calculated instead of being reported by a sensor.
There is a coolant temp sensor in the water crossover by the upper radiator hose.

Ahh. That clarified it. Yeah we were on the same page. The added information through me off, thought we were talking about different things.

There's also the heat exchanger, at least on the tow packages, down by the oil filter. That probably keeps the two fluids in relatively close temperature to each other. Maybe the oil temperature is inferred from the coolant temperature based on that and they just use that assumption for the non-tow packages too. Purely speculation.

There's also a coolant temp setting in HPT in Engine > Spark > Retard > Knock Adaptive Learning >Enable > Min ECT that may or may not be applicable to what you guys are discussing. Heck if I know, just more speculation, and guessing.

Did this on my lunch break, too about an hour, maybe less! I've been wanting to do it for a while, was actually way easier than I thought. Thank god for the THIIINNN hood metal stamping. LOL. I'll get some weather stripping on the edges and eventually find and add a proper scoop.

Don't think I'm not seeing your posts. lol

True story - I think the wife will murder me if I tell her my splurge now requires another splurge that may or may not be the equivalent of a weekend away. So, if I one day end up with this hood, please call for a wellness check.

Dropped off my truck at a local shop to have them ship the trans to IPT for a rebuild. Got about the same 11 hours as well. Getting a transmission cooler installed at the same time. Very curious how differently the truck drives and hopefully actually lasts this time vs Ive lost 2/3 shift+reverse twice now. Then Ill be back to being a menace.

Those 2nd gear clutches get burnt. Happened to my first trans. Your one up on me. But not in a good way.

Haha yes. Toyota replaced one transmission for free, but I was nervous the same thing would just happen again lol. Now we're doing it right! Plus now that I know how weird the transmission shifts with the gear overlap, slow shifts and flex lock makes sense why these fail with lots of extra power. Throwing in some Caltracs too!
