Whatever this forum told me to do

Those that have it....does it lower average temps?

@PolishedTRD - I expect nothing less than a full report.

I run 194 degrees....no matter what. and like @Saltyhero13 said, is it good to run this thing at 170-ish degrees?

You can have your torque converter lockup in 4th gear and lower apply rpms a few 100 in 5th in tow/haul. That will lower temps.

Here's my Taurus fan, Volvo relay and BMW thermostat. I removed my a/c relay as it was having issues. It's a Frankenstein setup but works...

Oh, I'm talking coolant temps, not trans temps. Trans is well managed at this point, though I do want to change the location of the cooler after this towing season.

    @bflooks gotcha!

There is a temp I believe 190 deg to keep engine oil at where it will still burn off water and other impurities. Could be 200 like @Saltyhero13 stated.

Yes burning off the water is one aspect. Activating the additives package was the other. Lake Speed Jr/Oil Geek just has a vid on it. Some of the techs can talk to the engine's opitmal operating temp range. I've seen it posted just don't remember off hand.

So 180 seems fine. Range looks like 180 to 220.

Edit Worth noting oil temp lags behind engine temp by ~20 mins.

My air to engine oil cooler is 164-168 deg at the outlet. Engine coolant 190-195 deg with 185deg thermostat. Trans at 150-170 deg at the pan. Ambient air 80deg.

When i was speaking with Mishimoto about aftermarket cooling on my M3 (that engine runs HOT), they had mentioned that a lower temp thermostat, and all aluminum radiator would keep the coolant temps low, BUT would increase the under hood temps. So that may effect the IAT...hood louvers are huge with the E46 M3 crowd because of it.

I’m with you. 194 idling in 100 degree heat in traffic and 194 at 20 degrees in the winter. Doesn’t matter how hard I run the truck she stays at 194

Man I hit 200, maybe a few over at times but will drop when it opens.
I was about to ask what are the temp ranges of coolant, oil and ATF? That way I can input it on my reader to keep an eye on when I head out of state this thurs while towing

I wouldn’t worry one bit about 200. Towing and low mountain passes can easily get up passed 205-210

I usually have 220 be my point of starting to worry about stuff. At 220 nothing bad is happening, but you know temps are beginning to run away so should start getting cautious. That goes for all three fluids.

Has anyone cut through the hood bulge to let air flow through that way other than for a light bar lol?

Not here, but I'm starting to research water management of louvers since I'm debating putting one directly over the turbo, solely for heat exhaust.

Yes, and while the blanket is cool enough to place a hand on, I'd still like the evacuate the radiant heat as much as possible, especially when stopped/parked. Long term plans. It'll take me a while to figure out which way I want to go.

Yeah gotta be careful about running too cool, we had an issue on a customer's build (different platform), but the stock ECU did all of its timing checks IIRC at 180*, he had put a 160* thermostat in and kept getting OCV and cam timing codes. He pulled the motor apart 2 or 3 times before we all finally caught the issue. So no reason not to try it, but only one variable at a time, in case something odd happens, you'll know exactly what it is and can revert back. Not to mention oil operating temp and proper viscosity.
