2023 Tundra issues?

I wonder if the remedy is going to be throwing a new shortblock in while inspecting the cam journals. I would be upset if they identified metal debris as the culprit and didn’t take into account what that same debris would do to the turbos and how much of that debris remains in the lines and other associated parts.

I guess what I’m saying here is, if they just replace the shortblock that’s a half measure in a proper repair. If it were me I would do my best to make the case for a full engine replacement with a warranty and they would probably just back that down to an extended warranty but at least it’s some peace of mind.

Why would a Toyota survey ask you if you changed oil at 1k miles?

Thats very interesting question from them as they're preaching to change oil only every 10k miles!!!

I did my first oil change at 1000 miles. Then at 5000 I went to the dealer for "Free 5000 Mile Service" I was promised. The service rep refused to allow the oil change and we got into a heated discussion. He said they would only do the Oil Change part of Free Service at 10,000 miles. So I left and did my own oil change. A couple weeks ago I bring my Tundra in for the many recalls. The new service rep told me they did an oil change in addition to recalls. I was at 7500 miles. I was curious but, OK. Now I'm thinking maybe it had to do with the 24TA07 recall.

 

FYI, I got my first free oil change at 1600, and my second freebie at 10K. 2 different dealerships. No questions asked.

 

I did my own at 1,600 miles and then the dealer did one at 3,000 (included in the free service) now we are at ~4,500 miles (7,500 kms).

I did note that the oil I took out at 1,600 miles was very dirty and dark, I didn’t check for glitter back then.

Mine is around Sept 22 build date.

We have just decided to park it and see what happens down the road, and that means lots of holding breath!

We wont take the risk that a failure can include, it just isn't worth it to us (we also have other vehicles to use). And a rental down the road, for the trailer, if this drags on forever.

 

Some dealers are dicks, and are on a power trip...

I never heard dealers proactively change oil at 7500 miles just because... And not because of this recall. But who knows, maybe it's a new thing.

Toyota includes 2 free oil changes, as per their schedule it's at 10k and 20k miles.

However, dealers can use up these two freebies at ANY miles you want. You can ask them to do oil change at 1K miles and ask them to simply use your 10k miles freebie.

 

Conspiracy theory: Just thought since my Tundra falls in the date range for the recall, maybe they where checking for metal flecks. Checking App, Gov and Yota web site my truck doesn't show that its included. Since all my conspiracy theory's have all come true, I was looking for a new one

 

If you read the manual it says if you tow you need oil changes at 5k so mention that and they can't deny because you're following the scheduled maintenance outlined in the manual.

 

As mentioned above, changing oil has nothing to do with miles, you can use your free oil change at your own discretion and the dealer can mark it 10K, 20K miles or whatever.
I think part of sorting out affected vehicles will be engine video inspection and/or drained oil analysis. In the meantime, I will send my engine oil for analysis

 

Update on my 23 Toyota Tundra:
I just found out yesterday that Toyota will be replacing the motor, the turbos, and any part that oil goes through. I was just under 25K miles.

 

Interesting to know how bad was the Engine damage in your case? hopefully they will do it right

 

they haven't mentioned how bad it was. They did mention that they were able to duplicate the issue at the dealership and were able to get real time data from it. The issue for me was after accelerating, getting up to my desired speed (70-75mph), and letting off the gas, caused the truck to shut down. Since I've owned it, I've always had issues with it not performing when needing to give it gas to clear and intersection and sometimes when attempting to pass another vehicle.

That’s fabulous! I can’t believe they are doing the job correctly. My hats off to them.

 

Very interesting, may be an indicator the official remedy for the recall will include something similar, at least for those engines determined to be failing.
