My truck bucks like a bronco when I had a misfiring coil. Replaced with Denso from the Rock and GTG.

I would also add. I see a LOT of air/fuel/ignition items replaced. Any time you touch any of those three systems, even w/something as silly as spark plugs, you should unplug the negative battery cable for 10 minutes to force a relearn so ECU/ECM can adjust more smoothly into operating with its new equipment.

If you have t done so recently, or since adding equipment, do it now. Immediately take it out and test where you’re seeing it be stupid, see if it’s still happening while relearning. If not, that’s one possible tell.

Just cleaned the MAF, switched #5 coil with the original one I saved, and left the neg battery cable unhooked for 20mins. Gonna put her on the interstate tomorrow and see if there’s any change.
If I were to get all new coils what brand would you all recommend?
    (Full sets)
    NGK U5065 $514.64
    MSD 82218 $439.95
    Denso 673-1303 $420.56

What Jerry said — but DO NOT buy on scAmazon or fleaBay, in the event that needs to be said.

If I get them it’ll be off rockuto or Jegs, maybe my local federated or advance if the price is decent

If Advance sells them (they have very few Denso parts) the coupon RMN15 is usually good for 15% off online purchase, for in-store pickup.

After initial interstate test this morning the old coil on #5 made a noticeable difference. Engine load %pct never got over like 66-67 and it only tried to downshift on 1 hill instead of all of them. Still not quite right though, gonna buy all 8 new densos and see if it fixes it completely. :fingerscrossed:

Keep us posted. If it happens this was coil pack again, it'd be nice to toss on yet another tally mark, and another brand that's shitware.

Pretty sure TRQ is on the list. Along with anything else not named "Denso".

It definitely started going through the Revs a little smoother but nope, still downshifted at 76mph on a medium sized hill. What else could it be?

Why wouldn’t it downshift? Mine downshifts on hills.

It’s never downshifted on the interstate before, it should have no problem going 76mph in cruise, I wouldn’t even call it a hill to be honest, more like a moderate incline. Engine load % is around 50 on flat ground and on the incline it gets to about 60 it starts running harder, almost struggling and wanting to drop into 3rd.

I mean, I don't think this is it since you're saying it downshifted on a hill specifically, and not randomly, so I doubt this is it. May be worth checking if for nothing other than shits and giggles.

It’s very strange cause if I give it the beans from a stop it takes off and runs through all the gears and does fine.

I'd love to see live specs on what's happening when it jumps. Maybe a vacuum leak? Maybe it's the shitbox hot-air intake you've got on it, or the oiled filter on the hot-air intake has caked your MAF with oil, as happens, and is one of a couple reasons to never install them?

To that point, when was the last time the MAF was cleaned with proper MAF cleaner? I'm still leaning on this being an air/fuel/spark issue.

I think shifty is hinting that aftermarket intakes like yours add ZERO power and potentially create other problems. Your truck will probably create more power if your revert back to OEM air intake.

Still don't necessarily think that's the problem here. But I'm also sure it's probably not helping.

Zach, do you have any way to watch/record live stats on what's happening with the truck? Like an OBDII dongle with the Torque Pro app on an Android device or something?

I guess I should've asked this earlier, in case I didn't, but are you running oversized tires? I only ask because I dealt with this shit again today when I took the kids out hiking and lunch in the woods. Running ~2" taller tires now, and I can't use cruise without it downshifting on even the weakest of inclines.

After another interstate trip I think I can feel the problem. The only other thing I can assume is the problem would be the headers have decreased my HP at cruising rpm’s. As soon as I start up a hill or incline I can feel what I think is the torque converter locking/unlocking trying to find power before it drops into 3rd.
Is there some kind of trans control module or cruise control module I can change out to eliminate or alleviate this? Maybe a chip or tune of some kind? Anything will help, I have a 6 hour drive to make this weekend and I’d like to have cruise working properly.

P.S. I just paid $1,900 to get these headers put on so the ticking would stop, and I AM NOT going to take them back off

The problem ended up being the upstream driver side o2 sensor, bank 1 sensor 1. 8 hours into my 12 hour drive today the codes finally popped for it. P0300, P0130, and P0133. Stopped at an advance and got a brand new Denso, changed it in the parking lot. Truck drove perfectly for the last 4 hours back home.
