OK, not to sound like an idiot but if I use wheel ramps for the front wheels, will it affect the oil draining out of the pan much? I know it will obviously, but do you think it will be significant? Im a bigger guy and can use whatever clearance I can get.

I've always used ramps or jacked up just the front before I made my ramps . No issue draining the oil. If there was any left in the the pan, it would be insignificant..

I use ramps as well. Have changed the oil three times by myself. Takes me less than a half hour and that is with prep and cleanup. I use the fumoto and have rci skids. No issues at all. I order the oil from Costco when they have their rebate - I get 20 quarts for $65…..that’s almost three oil changes (take about 7.5-8 quarts per change). I buy oem filters from the local dealership. The first time I put he o-ring on the wrong part of the housing, started the truck and backed out of the garage while oil was spraying everywhere!!!!! Haven’t made that mistake again - the correct positioning is listed right on the box. I have a backup housing kits in case I crack one.

I have a short nipple version with steel RCI skid. Lost one plastic clip in snow and another one in muddy waters. In snow it was a bit scary, because later I found the lever partially disengaged. Fixed the lever with a piece of solid core copper wire now, like 18 or 20 GA.

I am not a fan of the plastic piece living in the Arizona heat so I use a pig ring to put in the slot. I was afraid wheeling that a tree branch or whatever debris on the trails could get jammed up in the skid plate and just worried me. The pig rings are thick, solid and will not fall out. I have a tool to help insert and take out when changing oil. call me paranoid but they have been on for 5 years and still holding strong

Pig ring hog ring… you know. I used them to put wire under chain link fence and for barb wire connections to fences when I was in High School. I worked weekends for years before I graduated and the hog rings were what I used. I will take a pic when I get out to the garage

Fumoto sells a lever lock to hold the valve shut instead of using the plastic bit. That's what I use and I need a pair of clamp pliers to get it on and off (it would require a catastrophic failure to come off on its own)

Ok, so the F-lock is exactly what I ended up buying a box of and that picture shows exactly what my EZ kit looks like. I just have a rubber cap over the nipple

I have the valve but haven’t switched it yet. The valve accidentally opening under some crazy circumstance is my biggest concern. I just bit the bullet and paid the shipping after seeing there is a better lock out there for the valve over the plastic piece

the plastic piece clips and locks in ; I would find it hard to believe that it could be lodged loose unless installed improperly. That said, I may get the f lock just to be sure

I've had the Fumoto on other vehicles and currently have the ValvoMax on my truck. I really like its design. It doesn't stick out from the oil pan as much and has a cap on it should the valve fail. If you're worried about the Fumoto accidentally opening (which I don't think is very likely), then you should probably keep the standard plug or go with something like the ValvoMax.

Agree. Very unlikely that the Fumoto valve would open on its own with out the plastic lock... I have the plastic lock. It hasn't come off yet , been on about 3 years ..

I remember I once drained the pan and only then figured out there's no beer in the fridge. That was the most awful oil change ever. Ever.

Fair point LOL. Though the oil hitting the drain pan and splashing out everywhere is a close second

I use a 5 gallon bucket (made for oil changes) with the front wheels on ramps. Never spilled a drop.

That's gotta be a first. Since about 1970, I've always had beer in the fridge. Often, no food (when I was dirt poor), but ALWAYS beer.

It’s moments like this that I’m reminded why I have a 50L Dometic fridge permanently mounted in the bed of my truck. I haven’t shut it off in years, and there’s never not beer in it. Just in case.

So the valve with the hose end is $40.83 Amazon.com: EZ-103(12mm-1.25) EZ Oil Drain Valve with removable Hose End Combo : Automotive
The valve alone without the hose end is $21.80 Amazon.com: EZ-103 EZ Oil Drain Valve : Automotive
The hose end is $7.62 Amazon.com: EZ Oil Drain Valve (H-001) Straigt Hose End - 3/8" Straight, Small, Silver : Automotive
So to buy them separately instead of together as a kit the total is $29.42, a savings of $11.41, use that savings to buy 3/8 hose to go on the end of the drain or better yet if you're worried about the drain lever being hit by something causing it to open get this, better than the wire ring clamp. $6.99
    The Hillman Group 59737 11/16-Inch Spring Action Hose Clamp, 12-Pack - Amazon.com
Silicone hose $5.99: Amazon.com: Rebower 1m(3.3ft) 10mm(3/8") ID x 13mm(1/2") OD Silicone Tubing Clear Industrial Plastic Tubing Pure Silicone Hoses for Pump Siphoning Draining Irrigation Brewing : Industrial & Scientific

Get these 4 items together instead of paying $40.83 for the drain and hose end together and it's $42.40, a whole $1.57 more and all you need is a pan to drain the oil into.

I don't use ramps. A pair of 2x6s screwed together gives me the clearance I need.
