@BubbaW you had some comments in another thread about the wiring on the OD switch for a member whose switch suddenly wasn't working. Didn't you say something about the wiring for the OD button getting chafed or whatever, and eventually stops working? If so, wonder if that's what's happening here?

Yeah, that Toyota design does not fare too well and from the video, he's experiencing what most folks find as he moves the shifter. As you said, the wiring for OD button gets chafed over time and is a common failure point whereby the insulation wears off wire over time, grounding wire and simulating button being pushed.

@theplanesaidso , if your not aware how....turn steering wheel full CW, should see a phillips screw, turn full CCW, should see phillips screw, middle bottom of lower column cover theres another screw. Cover shell should then separate to see what's loose. While there, also look at the single conductor wire that goes up thru shifter to O/D button, it's known to get frayed and come on for no reason other than it's grounding to column section.

Well, I probably have this same problem, never happens to me while driving, but OD light often comes on or flickers in Reverse, And Park.

Blinking/more like sporadic shorting in my O/D off light. Found chafing on the wire as described in the video.

Screws on each side right here, and one in plain sight below.

As it appears when you open it up, and where the rubbing takes place.

    Better view of chafing.

I used some small tubing like vacuum line to protect it. (Not sure where I got this tubing but its not vac line)

This averted a future problem for sure, but the light still sporadically blinked. So I removed the LED in that socket and returned the original incandescent... Problem fixed :anonymous:

I know this is really off topic but could you point me in the direction of where you purchased your dash and ignition lights.. i bought some a while back for all the smaller bits but i would love a different color for check engine and ignition, and hopefully the background lighting for it.
