I'm going to be getting this HU installed soon, local stereo shop will be installing it and the Maestro, and doing the setup.

I want to make sure I get all possible functionality, especially the gauges, ESPECIALLY trans temps.
Is this pretty much available by default or do the gauges and vehicle info need to be specifically programmed?

I've also heard some guys say they had issues with TPMS, but don't know if that's the norm or an anomaly.

Any issues you guys have run into I should look out for, and if so what was the fix?

    What are your favorite features?

I have a Samsung S22 and will definitely want to take advantage of Android Auto and screen mirroring. Are you able to cast anything you want from phone to screen? Netflix, YouTube, Prime video, etc.

    Any functions lost?

Thanks in advance, for an old school boomer I'm reasonably comfortable with technology, but some of this stuff is just too deep down the rabbit hole.

2019 SR5 Non-JBL with (I think) amp under the passenger seat.

I don’t think you can get trans temperature without a scan gauge or similar…..

I have an older Kenwood, but the layout looks the same as the HU you have chosen.
I don't think it even offers trans temps.
I just looked the options for gauge selection and trans temp wasn't one of them.
The selection of gauges varies from vehicle to vehicle.
Perhaps your 2019 may offer it.

If the trans temp is one reason you are doing this, I'd certainly make sure it is available before the install.
Perhaps someone here that has a similar HU can chime in.

You can select which gauges you want on the screen, thru the limited available.
There should be 2 different screens, P1 and P2.

This guy goes over it for a few seconds at 2:50
That looks just like the screen in my old Kenwood.
    https://youtu.be/tNTJz_EVTa8?si=8Ldwr7zJd-lBJJZ3

The Maestro comes with default steering wheel button controls.
These button choices can be programmed to whatever you want when it is flashed/installed.
Your installer will flash the Maestro to your particular vehicle.

    For instance the middle button on the left of my steering wheel;
Push it once, the TPMS comes on the screen.
Push it and hold it down, and the gauges pop up.
Honestly, I never use the gauges.

    Good luck..

So I found a couple of posts in the "iDatalink Maestro" thread that are encouraging.

    Fingers crossed.

Well done! This pleases me greatly since that was one of the selling points that made me want to spend the money, not to mention one of the ways I justified it to my wif... errr, I mean the CFO.

So it reads the Toyota PID's on it's own, you just have to tell it to validate them, correct?

I know on some of the other OBD readers you have to input the PID's

    I don't know.
I just know trans temp wasn't there until I did your PID validation.
Then it and a few more options popped up.
I doubt the validation was ever done since I installed it years ago.
I'll use the TPMS, but I never use the gauges.

There really isn't much, if any, info in the Kenwood manual about it.
It probably has more to do with the Maestro anyway.

The TMPS is nice because it will automatically pop up on the screen if a tire is low.

You're going to love wireless Android.
As well as better audio quality and control over your audio settings..

Yeah I wanted the gauges mostly to monitor trans temps when towing since I have a '19 without external cooler.
I was going to a Scangauge for that but figured "Hey if I can do it on a big beautiful HD screen that gets me all kinds other cool shit too, it'd be downright irresponsible of me not to buy that instead!"

Hopefully a little gain in audio quality will be enough to keep me from going too crazy on the system.

Anybody using the screen mirroring to cast your phone to the HU?

Of course I'd never actually watch a movie while driving, but my '00 had a Pioneer with DVD, and that was a great way to pass a long drive when traveling. Stop at Redbox and get a couple of discs, she can watch a movie and I just listen... maybe glance occasionally. ;)

Netflix, etc. work well on the Kenwood?

Silly question - I have an Android and my wife has an iPhone. Can you set this up for both Apple Carplay as well as Android auto?

That way if we're on a roadtrip together she can do maps or whatever from the passenger seat and I won't have to mess with my phone while driving.

So I'm getting the HU installed tomorrow and thinking of adding the front camera. (I forgot to ask but I'm assuming it's the Kenwood cam)

Any of you guys running aftermarket front cameras?

If so where's the best placement for them? I don't want it for "Dashcam" stuff, just for parking and off road.

I've had this truck for a year and a half, and honestly I still have NO freaking idea where the front of it is. :frusty: I think I'm getting really close to something and I'm still 2' away.

I usually pick a decent line and have a pretty good idea where my wheels are, but we were tooling around on a trail Sunday and hit a couple of bumps, holes, n' rocks that I never even saw. The dogs were not pleased.

Hey, when you Validated PIDs and got Trans Temp to show up, was it instantaneous or did it take awhile?

I read another thread where the guy said it sometimes takes up to 24 hours for them to show up.

I got my 1057 and Maestro installed yesterday and my trans temp is still grayed out. :(

Not a complete loss even if it never shows, since I can ask the Google chick any stupid question I want while watching Netflix or YouTube, but I'm really hoping for trans temps... since that's one of the things I used to justify the ridiculous amount of money I spent on this.

I'm glad I sprung for the front camera, it's gonna' make my life a lot easier, since after a year and a half, I STILL have no fucking idea where the front of this pig is.
Comes on when I slow to 5MPH or less, turns on when I shift from R to D, turns off when I hit 7MPH, or I can trigger either cam on demand.

I like the custom wallpaper too.

    No, it was instantaneous.
It wasn't there, then right after the validation it was.
Maybe give it a couple of days and try it again..

It would only let me put the trans temp on one of the smaller lower gauges.
For instance the bottom right gauge on my HU.
For the main gauge and maybe the upper gauges it wasn't an option.
    Give that a shot.

I'd like to install a front camera, I had one on my loaner 2024 Platinum for a week.
I wouldn't use it much, but there are times I have to park in parking garages it would certainly come in handy..

After you validate PIDs, try shifting between P1 and P2. There's a difference in gauge types between the 2. If you see it and it's one of the smaller gauges, you can put your finger on it and hold it down for a couple seconds. That usually shifts it to the main gauge (center). This is how I do it on my Pioneer (similar interface).

Both my pioneer in the tundra and Kenwood in the sequoia are able to display trans temp via Maestro obd2. As mentioned above, it may not be available in all of the gauge spots; my pio is bottom right. I use it all the time including today while pulling a trailer a couple hundred miles.

I also recall needing to validate PID’s, at some point - like when I replaced the battery or some such. A few gauges that had previously worked had stopped working and I think the PID validation fixed them instantly (or at next startup). Either way, both vehicle work with different types of head units to display that info. The only reason I could think of yours possibly not working is that it is a 2019, but I was under the impression that some of the older tundras like 07-09 were missing some features. But it’s been a minute since I’ve installed and setup the Maestro so I very well could be imagining it. I think you should be able to get yours working.

Hey, now that you've pulled the trigger, I've been contemplating it, but had questions I couldn't find answers online, and the description on Crutchfield isn't clear, to me at least...

    1.Sound quality vs. factory HU?
2.Android Auto wireless (Spotify)..sound still good?
3.If wireless, do you still have Android Maps on the Kenwood, and do the steering wheel controls still work (voice control of Spotify and Maps)?

As explanation, my phone USB-c is getting sketchy for Android Auto, and I can justify the HU so I don't have to buy a phone for a working connection!

    TIA!

    1. Sound quality is a marked improvement over OEM HU.
At some point I'll probably want to upgrade the speakers, and a 10" sub would be real nice, but this should keep me happy for awhile.

    2. AA & Spotify sound as good as my XM (I think, XM just got turned back on from the swap today)

    3. Steering wheel controls work, I actually gained functionality there because you can have 2 functions per button - 1 for press and another for press and hold.
Voice control of maps, messages, nav, "Hey Google" searches, etc. is way better!
OEM wouldn't let me speak an address into the NAV, I had to stop and type it in.

Android Auto doesn't always connect, I have to tell it to recognize my phone.
    Not sure what that's about.

    4. Bonus: Screen mirroring with my Samsung S22+ is seamless...
    Netflix, YouTube, Prime, whatever.

    Thanks, much appreciated!
I already did sub, amp, and speakers (some improvement), so the HU should put me where I want to be.
I need to fire up the budget-o-meter, now...

I will have to try this on my Kenwood. Mine showed the air pressure in each tire for a while and then stopped. Any ideas on that?

    Try validating PIDs again.

    *Settings
    *OEM Settings
    *Maestro Settings
    *Validate PIDs

    (Or something like that)

Sometimes my TPMS will come up with one tire zero'd out but will then pick it up again.

    Mine is an RR.
    I don't think the RR2 existed when I installed mine..:D

So you don't see it as an option for ANY of the gauge positions?

Nope, I see it listed for certain positions, but it's grayed out.

Yep, that's what I'll need to do. I was hoping it might just take some time, someone said theirs took like 24 hours after validating PIDs, but it's 2 days now and no joy.
