I just discovered on mine, that I don't need the paid services for remote start, I have to be more than 10' away, press the lock button 3 times, hold on the third for 10 sec or better and it will start, yes it shuts off if you open the door but hey, also discovered you have to point the remote upwards towards your face, odd, but it works.

I think that it was confirmed awhile back that remote start from the actual fob will work for a certain period of time, without the paid services. Someone will chime in with the length of time. I think it's like 2 of 5 years.

The paid service only impacts the ability to remote start, lock/unlock, etc from the app.

I don’t want another mod just want the engine to stay on when I open the door.

then the answer is no. You wont ever be able to bypass the door kill feature without a module like that

Just to revisit this, I just checked the Accessorides site again and they still don't have an application for 2023 or 2024. :-(

Toyota really needs to fix this. It cannot be this hard.

Toyota doesn't consider it a problem. They intentionally designed the remote start to shut off if anyone attempts to open a door. Here's their official statement:

"To help ensure your safety, and anyone near the vehicle, the remote engine starter is designed to shut the engine off when it detects any attempt to enter or move the vehicle after a remote engine start."

I doubt they are going to change their policy.

Does the remote start via mobile app function the same way? Would the vehicle turn off once a door is opened?

I emailed Accessorides about this 4 months ago and they said they didn't know when they would have 2023 and 24. I also e-mailed them again last week and never heard back.

Eddie... updating this because Accessorides finally updated the application listing to include 2023 and 2024. Yay. They don't have the instructions online to see the wires you need to cut or tap. Can you elaborate? How much dash or kick panel disassembly is required? Better yet if you have a picture! It would also be great of you could PM me a copy of their installation directions. I e-mailed them a request for that, but they don't usually respond very quickly.

You have to remove the kick panel, panel where obd2 port is at and the steering column panel as well. Nothing crazy and their instructions are crystal clear. I don't have a pdf of the instructions, sorry.

Pics of instructions. I've previously posted pics here of the harnesses you tap and splice into.

Thanks, man! When it warms up, I'll pull those panels and see how tight these harnesses are. Hopefully the tape can be opened up enough to get at that pink wire to do the cut and connections. Those are some really fine and delicate wires... at least they were on my Tacoma.

Where did you mount the box? And I assume there is plenty of room in there to semi-neatly tuck away the t-harness.

I just looked at your other pic and that doesn't look too bad.

Wires aren't fragile and very easily accessible...plenty of room down there.

Hey Eddie, this does look really simple compared to past installs. Only thing I need to really check is the hood pin situation. One would think we have one of those already, but I haven't looked. If not, easy enough to install one.

How long do the batteries last on the 2-way remote? My old Clifford used to eat those AAAs. I assume the 1-way will last much longer and if it starts reliably that may be the one to use most of the time. From the photos I assume that these may use watch batteries.

Did you get the full boat package with app access? If so, does the app do anything besides remote start, i.e., does it report vehicle lock status like the Toyota app? If so, that $40/ year sounds a lot better than Toyota's $15/month.

Sorry for all the questions. Accessorides apparently do not provide this information or any of the documentation except with purchase. I really appreciate you posting what you did.

I didnt bother with the hood pin, can't help you there, sorry.

Battery on my 2 way has been great. Haven't had to replace it. I had a Viper 791XV and it would also eat up its single AAA..nothing like that with this thing.

I didnt get the full boat, but someone posted about it in one of the fb groups. I think he's the first one to post about it too.

Yea as we discussed before, I had the Clifford 791 equivalent. Maybe got 30 days out of one AAA which was a PITA, for sure. As for the pin switch... I am guessing that our Tundras had hood open sense already what with the factory remote start... via pin switch or some other hardware... and that the Accessorides system reads that via their t-harnesses. You can test it by doing a remote start and then popping the hood. Engine should shut down. If not, it really isn't a big deal, IMO, but that is how these are designed to operate.

I'm pretty sure you void the warranty as soon as you splice any of the wiring required for any of the 2 solutions listed in this thread.

Also, as soon as I unsubscribed / "Declined" from all of the options under "Data Privacy Portal" via the App, I lost the remote start immediately. I prefer that than to have all of my driving habits eventually shared with an insurance agency.

Hopefully, there will be a relatively easy solution to install that does not require splicing cables.

Out of curiosity does your FOB still work for remote start? I've seen conflicting reports on that.

Sorry, that's what I meant that after I unsubscribed or declined all of those services, my fob stopped working like 5 minutes later. I can no longer remotely start my car.

    * The fob still worked after my trial ended. It stopped working after I went to the app, Data Privacy Portal, and Declined all of those options there.

This a million times. I can't say enough to criticize this decision by Toyota in the name of "safety." The whole point of remote start is convenience and climate control.
