Crash test for BOF is bit of a trial and error, we have to keep in mind that second gen XK50 Tundra was more or less designed in the early 2000s, you can see why they removed the driver's side handle during the facelift.

The a-pillar deformation is minimal compare to the 2nd gen.

 

The A pillar deformation was only an issue on the crew cab. The DC did better.

I don't know why everyone hypes Sparksparts.com. I always end up finding it cheaper via the Toyota Online Parts store by choosing my local dealer. Sparks charges way too much for shipping when Toyota gives free shipping.

 

Great post. Ordered Saturday at that price from Fred Anderson and had parts in hand/installed today.

To note:

The 2014+ garnish has a wiring cutout on the dash tab that the grab handle garnish does not. You'll need to modify the garnish to match.

Additional parts you'll need are:
- 20-25mm bolt/washer (M6x1.0 matches the existing upper bolt) M6, M8, 1/4, 3/8 will fit
- Threaded clip nut to match above. The lower grab handle mount tab is present, but you will need a clip nut unless you intend to tack weld a nut on the tab

I used an M6x1.0x20 JIS Bolt with washer and spring washer and M6 threaded clip nut from Advance auto parts to meet the missing hardware requirement.

 

Thanks for listing the Metric parts to match the existing. My order from Fred Anderson should be delivered tomorrow and I ordered it last Thursday. Took advantage of the sale and free shipping they had last week. Did you get all the hardware from Advance Auto and if so, do you happen to have the part numbers and costs?

 

IIRC is was Dorman P/N 961-315D

The JIS M6x1.0x20mm bolt I got from overland metric. I have tons of those fasteners in various sizes sitting around from another project.

Any M6x1.0x20-30mm would work. JIS just matches (exactly) what's already on the truck with a 10mm convex bolt head.

You could got 1/4" SAE like the sparks kit, but that's low rent and more than your truck deserves.

 

Mine came in from Fred Anderson yesterday. Best 20 minute mod there is.

 

What hardware did you use

 

I used a 1/4-20x1.5” hex bolt, flat washer, and speed nut.

If I had to do it again, I would use M6 hardware instead of SAE. The 1.5” length bolt is also overkill, you could probably use a 1” just fine.

 

I just made off with handle and trim for $12 bucks!

I went to the website and neither of the parts would add to my cart. The " add to cart button " would turn dark red and then the website would just hang.

 

I was able to add both parts to my cart, but I have the beige. I'm noticing gray seems to be the more in demand.

$151 but the shipping wasn't free...it only brought it to $164 though. Now to head to the hardware store for the screws/bolts.

 

Get the metric hardware if you can find it. No difference in the way it works, but it keeps all the hardware metric on your truck so you don't have to switch back and forth to SAE.

 

I understand your point, but in this application it is virtually meaningless. Who is planning on removing the handle after they have added it? And for a situation like this, you can still remove the bolt by using the closest sized SAE socket if you don't have the metric, or vice versa.

 

That crushing feeling you get when you wait for over a month for a part to arrive… only for it to be the wrong one.

Fred Anderson shipped my grab handle yesterday and it's due to arrive today , so I guess I'll head to the Depot of Homes in a little to get the bolt, washer, u-nut. Hope it's the right color!

 

I got two OEM bolts and washers from my local Toyota dealership for less than $2.00 - they actually had them in stock. I got the extruder clip from the Tractor Supply Company. Install is very easy and I have used my grab handle many times since.

 

I found a driver side grab handle in the junkyard and sold it after receiving my new handle from Sparks Part. These handle will fit 2014 - 2021 Toyota tundra but the color will sometime have a different tint.

 

I've had mine installed for over a week and I forget it's there, so I haven't used it to get in/out of the truck. I let out an audible, "Oh man, I forgot to use my new handle to get in the truck!" and the wife thought I was crazy. She's like, "You didn't need it before!"...but now that it's installed and new I want to use it.

 

So any pillar or handle from 2014 - 2021 work?
