Digital Rearview Mirror

I am really interested in this kit. I am getting a Radica Moonlander built for my truck and want use the digital mirror to make things easier with that.

what other types of mounts have you come up with? I am thinking something made to flush mount inside the camper with the camera protruding outside through something like a rubber grommet so the camera doesn’t need to be looking through a window, but the lens is outside with the camera body inside similar to the factory brake light setup.

How is the field of view once you move the camera back? I'm thinking it could too "zoomed in" when it's moved back 6.5' back. Is it possible to swap and use the cargo camera that seems to be a wider FOV than the one for the mirror.

I'm also assuming that regardless with a topper/camper I am going to lose the top down arial view.

 

Neither of these cameras are used for the Arial view actually, those are the front, mirrors and tailgate only. You cant swap the cameras unless you mean you want to press the camera button each time and look at the screen as a rearview. Its certainly a closer FOV, but there are options on the mirror for zoom out and rotation etc. it ends up feeling like a normal rearview after a few days.

 

I am already using mine in the widest FOV, so that's where my concern came from.

Do the cargo and mirror cameras use different connectors? Or what makes switching them impossible, it may not be that simple, I'm not much of a digital guy honestly.

I recently purchased a 2024 Tundra TRD Pro with the rear view camera. I’ve added a Leer topper and am interested in relocating the rear cameras to the back of the topper. Is this quote above about how to relocate the camera to the OUTSIDE of the topper, into the brake light of the topper? I’m not crazy about mounting inside the topper. I was hoping to swap the two (truck assembly and topper assembly); however, they are different sizes and shapes. I hesitate to say that “cost is not a factor”, but with an $80K truck and $3K camper shell, I hate to skimp on a solution to move the rear view mirror camera.

Thoughts?

 

Are you asking if you can mount a factory Toyota third brake light on a shell? I thought about it, even bought the whole assembly to try that, but its actually quite curved and organic shaped. would take a 3d scanner and a lot of trail and error... or Bondo

 

Here are a few pictures of different mounting options.

This one uses a t-slot aluminum as a cross bar. Disregard the cable routing. I still have not decided if I preffer the view from the top or the inside.



This is how I mounted it on the inside. I'm using the existing security screen bolt holes on the RSI Smartcap.


Lastly Austin (GG) also has a mount for the inside bed camera, I'm currently trying to figure out how to mount this without drilling new holes. But these give you an idea of what the mount looks like from the inside.

If anyone knows someone who has the package to do both the digital rear view mirror and wireless phone charger, let me know. I agree, the DRVM will not be cheap. Someone who makes it is going to make good $$$.

 

I worked with GG.Offroad for the cables and part numbers and got the DRVM swap completed. I believe I was the first person to tackle the retrofit. It’s not too bad… Still waiting to attempt the surround cameras.

 

@KA22TRD , you were able to add an OEM digital mirror and camera to a truck without that equipment from the factory? Were they factory new, used from different trucks, or from the same truck? I'm trying to figure out if this camera pairing issue GG.Offroad had is a fluke, or going to be a serious problem. Based on the tech manuals, there's no data communication with protected parity, so it usually means it's using raw video or a generic encoding. It would also mean that there's no address to pair to...

Any chance your 2nd camera was a dud, @GG.Offroad ?

I am interested in using this for a wired trailer camera and trying to come up with something cost effective and stock than my current situation with a strap on rear view mirror screen and a wired camera which does not do well at night and is super low resolution.

Just got a 1794 and will be adding a bed cap for my dogs. Would love to be able to keep using camera.

Just got my 1794 and have an order for Leer 100XR cap. Just looking, seems it might make sense to be able to remove that whole 3rd brake light/ camera assembly and remount on rear of the Leer cap. Replace with a blank. Guess I should ask Leer dealer.

 

I have a 22 SR5 TRD Sport and only have the flip mirror with no homelink or anything. Anyone know if there is wiring up there to add just the dimmable mirror with Homelink? Pay this much for a truck and can’t open the garage, lol.

 

Here is what I've done. I also have a TRD Sport that came with the basic mirror. I added a dimmable mirror with Homelink and it works great. You can wire it for continuous power or only on with ignition. I chose with ignition only to minimize any power draw.

Even though it's a nice setup, I think I'm going to install the Wolfbox rear view mirror just to add dashcams. Just too many idiots out on the roads these days and for a cya.
