Ok, so I am not a Tundra owner yet. I test drove a 2015 Ram1500 with the 3.92 rear. I must say, I was impressed. The only Tundra I tested had an 8" with 38's. It still seemed to have plenty of balls. My question is, how do the two factory height trucks compare?

Hmm think I saw a YouTube comparing these. I know for sure they did with best selling package for Ford F-150 vs Tundra.

There was a member of another forum who test drove both Tundra and Ram back to back and reported Ram felt relatively sluggish. You could test drive them yourself. For me, the biggest factor in my choice was the reliability issue.

Reliability/quality should be a concern with Dodge. Hundreds of thousands Dodge trucks/Chrysler jeeps are being recalled for some serious issues as I type.Resale value for Tundras can't be beat by any other truck maker. You need to test drive a Tundra with the 4.3 rear end. You will forget about Dodge RAM I'm Thinkin.

Very similar trucks. Just need to add the brake controller and TRD dual exhaust to the Tundra and it would be at the top.

I think the brake controller will be standard with the 2016 models IIRC.

This is accurate on resale value. My 05 tundra I just bought was still valued at $16k and that's after 110k miles. Rams, silverados, and f150s were around $12-14k

I read a review lately that said the Ram had very low load/tow ratings relative to the Tundra. Something like 800 lbs or so payload. Heck, that's not even in the proverbial ½ ton class.

I personally will never own another Dodge. I bought a new Durango some years ago and had to deal with cracked heads, persistent transmission problems and abysmal fuel economy.

That makes sense, my 05 4Runner 90k miles value is around 12k-13k. I bet Durango's BB is a lot lower

Starting to sound like a no brainer to me, power + reliability. Still owe on our Tahoe for a few more months. So 2016 is looking like the year I buy a Tundra!

I drove a Dodge van from the mid eighties and well into the nineties and had lots of trouble with it over those years. Then the time came to replace it so I started reading and researching. One thing I learned to look at is projected reliability.
Now I have my 1794 and I can count on it getting me around far longer than most Domestic owners can.
It just brought us back from a wonderful 4,300+mile vacation up the northwest US.
Add to that resale value-try getting 40% of the original cost for any 12-year old domestic.

I wonder if the Tundra in the video had tow/ haul option with 4.3 gears? The 4.3's would definitely make a difference along with optimal shift points.

Pretty sure I heard him say it had the 4.3. He also said the Ram had 3.92. Yep, first video 2:24 he states 4.30 rear end.

It looks like all 5.7 options come standard with the 4.30. Even the single cab short bed. That truck must move pretty quick!

4.3 gears are only with Tow/Haul package and yes it hauls a**. Otherwise it's 4.1. All I can say is, let me drive the Gauntlet. Helps to be a little crazy. You just need to watch your red line shift points. I obviously don't worry too much about MPG.

I drove it not long ago. Not towing anything though. Had no troubles keeping speed and even accelerating on the slope. Definitely loose power at the higher altitude though.

All I know is ,that going up La Veta Pass, I had to back off twice. Going up with about 700 lbs of rock the first time last year. Wrote it up to the heavy load. This year no load at all. Still had to back off, but way sooner. Just south of Colo City on the I-25 the same thing. I know it's a different story actually towing a trailer. One thing for sure, I've never had any power issues going up any grade. It's been quite some time that I've had a truck that I have to be concerned about too much power. (yah baby!!!)

Yea I struggled going up hills in my Tacoma with 35s before I regeared. Very nice having lots of power in the mountains now.

Imagine me towing a 17 ft trailer with 2 snow mobiles and full bed with my 09 Taco all the way back from Anchorage thru Yukon Territory down Alberta, Montana, Wyoming, to Aurora with the 2.7L 4 banger with 5 speed manual tranny. Now you know why I "upgraded" to the 5.7L w/auto. No power issues anymore. :headbang:

Lol I now remember towing my friends crawler on a 17' trailer up the mountain in my tacoma. Crawling up the highway slower than the semis. I'm sure that was the same for the 4 banger.

Everybody passed me on any kind of grade. Even butterflies. Pedal to the floor. Nothing. Just the opposite now. Lovin it. (imagine how many times I shifted coming back. S**t)

So my coworker had a 1st Gen access cab for ten years and got a new camper which it pulled fine. He decided he wanted a crew cab and went with a new left over 14 Ram 1500 without even test driving a new Tundra. His decision was based on the good price for a left over and if it's a Hemi it must be able to pull what ever he wants. He had it back to the dealer 3 times in the first two months and is looking to get a slightly bigger camper. However the awesome Hemi and rear end in his truck is only rated for 7800 which will be maxed out with the new camper he wants. He started looking at buying a different rear end and finally test drove a 15 tundra crewmax. He loved the Tundra but now makes excuses because he will lose his ass getting out from under that "Awesome Ram". I offered to let him test drive my 15 Tundra CM before he bought his but no. It pulls a camper bigger than his. Expensive lesson to learn.

I made the run from Homer to south Texas in my old CJ5 a thousand years ago. I took a slightly different route by going through Yukon, BC, WA, OR, ID, UT, CO, NM then TX so I could stop for visits along the way. Had to tear apart my carb to adjust the floats in a motel parking lot in Tok. Got me down the road fine after that until I got down around Cortez/Durango, CO area when I had to jack with it again on the side of the highway. Long drive.
