That’s the plan. May also switch to high mileage oil now that I’ve crossed the 70k mark.

Just took to the dealer for this - I have a 21 with 40K and a big leak on the drivers side and weeping on the pax side. Anyone have any issues after having repairs completed under warranty?

So I had some maintenance stuff done today and got the cam leak news.
I never saw oil on the ground I guess because of my skid plate and cat shields.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/vhxa092g8W4?si=EBnO-Vv_XTfHc52K

How urgent is it to get this fixed?
    2014 110K miles

The dealer wants $5000 to fix it, but stated they would replace everything they took off, water pump, hoses, belt, etc...

Since you're outside of the warranty period (I assume), if you don't see a puddle on the ground or smell oil burning off something hot, I wouldn't bother.

    OK, I'm way outside warranty.
    Had a 7 year/75K mile extended warranty that I never used..
Of course, they made it sound urgent.
    I've never smelled oil burning.

So that gives me some time.
    Thank you..

I had a 78 Chevy Bonanza with a rebuilt 350 that leaked like a sieve, I carried a case of oil in the back and would add oil every other fill up. I marked territory everywhere I went. Truck ran like a scalded dog and I didn't have any problem, would drive to Atlanta or Charleston anytime I wanted. Last I heard that truck is still running hauling a landscape trailer in middle GA.

Just sharing. I think these toyota motors are as tough of not tougher than the GM small blocks.

Got a ton of help on this forum and want to share my experience if it helps anyone out. I purchased a used 2021 SR5 tundra 4x4 CM two months ago and had both cam shafts were leaking. Local toyota here in Ohio who is excellent took care of it and here are the pictures afterwards and the invoice of what was done. Would love to hear any mechanics chime in if the job looks good and nothing was missed.

I may be next up to bat…no April Fools…with a leak on passenger side head gasket/cam tower on my 2016 Long Bed. I started it up yesterday and noticed a big puff of white smoke plume out from the tailpipe. I checked oil and it was low….i noticed some oil near manifold and dabbed it with a paper towel on a stick (red circle is where I dabbed). I bought truck in September ‘23 with 37k miles and it now has 57k miles. I have an extended warranty and hope it covers it. Wonder if the 5 yr/60k mile manufacturer warranty is eligible? Is it either/or…..5 yrs or 60 k miles? I’m over 5 yrs but under 60 k miles.

Truck goes in for an inspection tomorrow AM. Hope all goes well cuz I love this truck!! It was a retirement gift tom myself last fall!

Man I hope you have the Toyota extended warranty and not some 3rd party? That will suck if they don't cover it.

Toyota tech completed their inspection. He sent me a video of the inspection and did not notice any oil anywhere. I emailed him back and provided details exactly where I saw it….w photos of paper towel dabbed w oil…& they sent me the below reply….sounds like I need a second opinion cuz no truck should be “sweating” oil

Sweat and leaks are merely semantics now. If your issue is covered and they're resisting, seek out a dealership willing to advocate for you. Often, resistance comes from the service shop, possibly due to low compensation, and from Toyota itself, concerned about financial losses. It may be a tough negotiation. Consider mentioning your intention to involve a lawyer.

I encountered a similar situation with my Honda Pilot, where they balked at performing a major engine rebuild covered by warranty, citing semantics. After my lawyer sent them an agreement outlining their accountability if the issue resurfaced post-warranty due to their refusal to address it initially, they promptly agreed to fix it.

Last Saturday I went to replace my spark plugs, the first plug I pulled front of the engine, driver side had a huge amount of oil in it.

Auto Nation Tempe, did the Cam Tower repair 4/6/23. I called to make an appointment to get it fixed under their 12 month, 12k warranty, (it is under 7k miles) they hemmed & hawed about paying for a loaner. I said the spark plug tubes were not leaking when I gave it to them ergo they messed it up.

I am awaiting a call back from the service manager.

In this photo, is that small circular flat piece collecting oil? That's where it will drip off. Mine seeped for long enough to collect there and drip.

Sorry to hear it. I think we got our trucks repaired at the same time last year. I hope it's not a big problem.

The manager called, said I have to get it in by Saturday, there is no "grandfathering" from making the appointment last month. I said I have an appointment Saturday, now I have to change my alignment appointment Saturday at 9am to bring this in at 7am.

    Wheee!

Yep. That’s where I dabbed the paper towel. I could see a small droplet of oil hanging there so I collected it on the paper towel

Has it been dripping off that piece on to the heat shield? It's easier to tell this with the hood up and a flashlight.

My truck started seeping/weeping/leaking at 5500 miles and I watched it for five years. By the almost end of my powertrain warranty, my heat shield was covered in oil so I fixed both sides.

Nothing observable on the heat shield yet…but I didn’t pry it back to look behind it….but here is the receipt narrative…which strangely is different to his previous email that tech stated it’s “sweating”….so something seems off with them. I told him I have a third party extended warranty and he said they don’t accept those….they only do Toyota warranty….& if it persists…call around to other dealers to see if they accept the third party coverage. And…originally I was informed it would be a $130 inspection fee…but he said since they didn’t do much, I didn’t have to pay the $130. So…I guess I just have to keep an eye on it and if it continues I have to shop around to see who will accept my extended warranty….i can’t believe this is not a recall if it’s so prevalent!

Mine was like yours, Toyota Tempe did it under extended warranty 4/6/23. They messed the reassembly, spark plug tubes are dumping oil.

luckily I caught it as the 1 year is Saturday.

I just happened to go to change the plugs last Saturday & my spark plug socket came out like an oil derrick drill, I stopped on the first plug & called the dealer, made an appointment for Saturday.

They can replace the plugs for me.

Stories like this are whey I keep putting off having mine fixed. Drips on drivers side and has been for some time. Have 24K of Platinum left to think about it.
