I guess we can come up with something but its a semi circle with a flat side that grabs the knob

I broke 2 within the first 3 months of ownership. Even with really careful use making sure I wasn't tweaking it to one side or accidentally bumping it, the second one only lasted a month. For now, I just resorted to dabbing some gorilla glue on the inside of the knob and that has seemed to hold so far (just over a month since last break)

Wonder if there is something we can proactively do to help reduce the potential failure. Like adding some epoxy around the tabs? Maybe inserting a dummy shaft to fill the hole and then back filling the rest with resin or something.

I feel like ordering a couple for the eventual need but also don't want to jinx myself. :)

I’d love to have a broken one to try slipping a short piece of small brass tubing over the prongs for clamping support. (they sell it at HD and Lowe’s) Maybe I should try proactively.

I guess some of you have never restored any old cars. Broken knobs are almost a given.

Here's a tip. Buy some G/Flex 650 Toughened Epoxy. Mix up a small batch and let it dry until it no longer runs. Gob a liberal amount all around the plastic female post in the knob. Slide it on the male post and don't touch it for 24 hours. I almost guarantee it will never break off again.

I've used the G/Fllex 650 for dozens of repairs to my old cars and boats. It's far better than JB Weld or Gorilla Glue for anything including plastics, metal, wood, ceramics, and fiberglass.

I'm on my third one in a year. I rarely use it. When I do touch it, it breaks. Warranty on them, and yes Toyota states it is a issue. So drive a Ford and play with your knob... I drive a Tundra and enjoy the ride. Go figure, it's all about what makes you happy. Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this Tundra around. I love my Tundra, more than my last three Tacos.

I'd probably just put a dab of JB weld on the end and slam that baby back home. Just enough to secure it to the post without fouling the rotation ability of the post. That's me though. I can't see myself buying the same part over and over again.

TBH honest...I'm worried about the longevity of the steering wheel "next" button. 90% of my steering wheel button use is that single button and I've noticed it starting to feel squishier than the others.

I had one failure at 3 months now I'm at 8 month mile marker. it has a pretty simple function/job touch in, turn left turn right, there is zero resistance on either of its three basic functions.
I would really hate to drop $200 on a couple of knobs from AJT. meaning not doing it for a fashion statement but having to do it so I can use my radio in a brand new 80K vehicle...

Mine is wobbly, it’s the only volume knob I’ve ever felt that moves around like that…weird

I'm all for replacing and spending good cake on something when I feel the "want" but I have a problem spending money for something that shouldn't fail so easily at 3 months, I honestly can understand if I lent the truck out to kids for there joy rides out with their Buddy's out F ing around town in it,but this scenario is far from that,it's just me and my girl as a DD and very mild weekend warrior type suff not rolling around the front seat making out.

let's not forget it's a freaking knob.haha,it's only requirements are 3 basic functions and shouldn't fail in all of these trucks.

I will eventually fold and buy the set of two because I don't want to be a pain in the ass and go to the Stealership and ask for another one,I'm not one for being a thorn.

Oh one more thing to gripe about with ajt.
$200 for knobs, well that tight wad outta update his web page to show the different colors vs showing 15 different views of the same color WTF!
Like I had mentioned waaaaay previously about 200 bucks for a .25 cents to manufacturer cost, please refrain haters/ I get it,the initial coast of "what it takes" to get things rolling.
I have well over 30K of HVAC tools to do what ever to fix, replace or complete rebuild your current POS,but I'm not going to gaff you because you don't understand whats needed to get the job done...
No I don't work for recreation and don't have a huge "Red cross" on my truck,I do like to sleep at night...
But jeeees come on dude up date,so we can line up like crackheads to buy your over priced products.
Oh and $40 for two pieces of low tack rubber!?

    I'm done raving,mike drop!

$200 for a couple knobs? PT Barnum was correct.

Come on now dude. Raylo provided a service for those who prefer to tinker and want to print their own. He did it for the community and at no cost to anyone. If you don’t dig it, that’s fine. But don’t call it garbage just cause you don’t and are willing to drop more money than some families in third world countries make in a year on a couple of radio knobs.

Another update for you guys whose knobs haven't broken or if you haven't squandered your $200 yet ... I designed a little reinforcing sleeve that you can slide over and glue on the wings in the OEM knob to strengthen it. You can probably do this with glue alone, but the plastic provides a nice scaffold for the glue in addition to extra strength and stiffness. My OEM radio volume knob was still intact and looked OK, but I gave it the treatment anyway. If you do this just don't go crazy with the glue and smear it in the base of the knob and onto the translucent ring for the IP light. Just a little glue on the wings is sufficient. Use PETG, ABS or some other strong material. Photo below was before glue.

It would also be fairly easy to design something like this that could replace the broken pieces to repair a trashed OEM knob. Just take the shaft gripper from my replacement knob and add a disc at the end to glue into the base of the knob. But I don't have a totally broken one to play with.

Yet another update... I pulled out the part of the 3D print knob design that grips the radio shaft and made a stand alone part to repair your broken OEM knob. Just take a Dremel and cut or grind out the broken pieces in your OEM knob, sand the surface smooth, and glue in the repair part. Look for the file with "repair" in its name. Let me know how it fits and works. I don't have a broken OEM knob to test it myself.

Brass sleave looks like it should have been used on the original one.

Probably could get away with using any type of tubing the fits the OD of the shaft in a nice snug way.

You guys are being a little ridiculous. Maybe on both sides. $200 is a lot. So is a $70k truck.

But what you fail to consider is that AJT is going through several manufacturing processes to produce these. Materials, cutting, polishing, anodizing, advertising, and most important, customer service! Made in the USA.

The final fit and finish must be superb, based on a few comments here. That OEM Toyota knob is actually pretty cheesy if you look at it closely. I just changed mine today, that weight or premium feel comes from the volume stud. I had a Tacoma, I put the cue-ball TRD manual shifter on it and wow, what a difference.

You get what you pay for, but you guys already know that. I just hate to see a small business get ravaged for offering a premium product. I appreciate the 3-D files @raylo, and I might actually ask a buddy to print me one. The plastic knob will do for now, but I'll always keep an eye out for that aluminum set.

Small business getting ravaged for $200 set of knobs. Then someone defends that small business.

Lifes short. Let’s just go ahead and pay another $400 for high quality valve stem covers to replace more Toyota plastic. Money, affordability, and common sense don’t always align….. it’s a radio knob and whether I’m rich or poor, I still like to think I use common sense when making purchases.

Precision high quality materials and craftsmanship does mean something and is very valuable. Just not for a radio knob.

And customer service for a radio knob? Seriously? Imagine ‘needing’ customer service in any way for a radio knob except to call ask for a refund when you realize how stupid of a purchase you just made.

AGT is providing a service that should not be needed on a truck that costs this much. I don't blame them for charging $200 if people will pay it. The Land Cruiser knob is a bit different (won't fit Tundra), but comes with reinforcement from the factory as shown.

I'm going to try heat shrink tubing on mine. Seems like a cheap and easy way to add some reinforcement.

New part installed. Here is a pic with shrink wrap reinforcement in place. Time will tell if it makes a difference.

I'll add that the replacement I ordered appears to have a attachment prong made of two halves, where the broken piece was four, so hopefully that makes it a little stronger on its own.

After breaking two knobs (the second one I had treated like I was walking on egg shells and it still broke), I went ahead and bought the two knobs that AJT Design makes (wasn't worth the time and money either going to the dealer and/or buying a new knob every three months). Just received them and am very impressed. Billet aluminum, substantially robust design, and they look great when installed. I think my worries are gone.

I'm thinking that the Toyota knob mounting flanges, or fingers (whatever you call them) are so thin that just driving over bumps, over time, jars it enough to break one or more of those things. I can't figure out any other possible explanation. Major design flaw on Toyota's part. And don't get me started on the poorly insulated headliner....

Ordered as well and just got notified they shipped. Haven't had my knob break, but after reading of multiple breaks, decided to order because the AJT look much better and avoids potential problem. What color screws are you going with ?

No scaling needed. Is your slicer set on inches instead of mm??
