What did you do with BSM? Just unplug the sensors and turn it off on the dash?

 

You can turn the bsm off and leave the sensors out. The only thing to be sure to do is tape up the plugs really well to avoid moisture and corrosion. @n0rth had some funky ECU fuses blow due to those plugs shorting out.

Thanks for the info. I have an Expedition One rear bumper on the way, so I am in the same boat for the BSM sensors

If you want a truly weather proof solution you can order the connector body and plugs below. This will be the same as everything being hooked like it was from factory in terms of weather resistance.

No way to work a spot for the sensors into the design?

 

We have some great local camping that you could take advantage of if you do come.

Not really unfortunately, the profile of the bumper doesn't really leave anywhere to stick them.

 

I’d be tempted to just pull the parking sonar too. At that point the entire factory bumper harness isn’t needed except for license plate illumination… I wouldn’t miss the sonar, but BSM would take a little to get used to again.

 

Surface mount it!!

 

Or sell it with the bumper…

At least my old sensors don’t seem to be super sensitive. I plugged them in and had them dangling facing out. Didn’t throw a “see dealer” message.

 

With that bumper…… do you really need BSM?

 

I was just thinking the same thing…
Once I commit to that level of modification, I think I’m ok with no more sensors…

 

On a 2020, the control for them is in the instrument cluster. If you unplug them they’ll simply deactivate. No errors or warnings at all.

the parking sonar is a different story.

 

Adam seemed content with just sonar. I wish I had sonar…. One day I’d like to get a rear camera on my backside……..

 

I can’t express how excited I am to see what trouble I can get into now.

 

I keep that shit off almost all the time - but had to fill the holes one way or another.

Might finally need a locker since I don’t have to worry about body damage.

 

I’m scared to use my locker and be too impressed and pissed why I didn’t do it sooner……..

 

Update on my order

 

I had one of the plugs get ice and salt driving back and forth to our local ski hill, and blew one of the ECU fuses. I ended up replacing the fuse and terminating the wires for that plug.

 

Update: I finished up the hard part of cutting up the bed side.. at least I think. I just picked up the bumper and prepping it for Steel-it.
