We do. I have already been approved for a buyback, but would rather have a replacement and am pursuing that currently. I had a significant trade-in when purchasing the truck, which save a good bit on taxes. It would make more sense for me to get a replacement.

That’s what mine is. So from what I’m hearing, it’s only worrisome if it’s constant?

My new 2024 tundra sr is doing the same thing at 100 miles. Loud tick coming from transmission bell housing area. Loudest when in park at idle. Sounds like something internal. Truck drives fine otherwise. I'm Going to have it looked at tomorrow I hope.

Thread reminds me of cracked manifolds that Nissan Titans suffered from when entering higher milage. Same exact sound.

Off subject but made me think of it. The last Titan generation coincided with organized new vehicle theft rings in my area. The only one to get caught were the Titan thieves because the engines always blew under high speed pursuit. The GM and Toyos could take one high speed chase without blowing up so thieves could at least ditch and make a run into the woods

Nobody ever stole the Fords or Rams for what ever reason. The Ford lot has zero fencing or security.

I haven’t heard mine in park, only in drive. Let me know what they tell you.

Yeah, that is me. Good luck on the replacement. The lady I talked to told me there were no Limited trims 4x4 with my options available at all and that they could build a Limited in April, but would not be the same as the truck I have. Buyback is on the table though, not sure I am going to go through with it. I would lose some money on that deal and got such a good deal on the one I purchased. Thinking about taking them up on the extended warranty, keeping mine and seeing if they will throw in anything else. I did confirm with the dealer that it would not be a remanufactured transmission. I know we discussed that at some point.

I dropped my tundra off yesterday to have the transmission tick diagnosed. Technician said he had not seen it yet. Called the toyota tech line and they recommended a new transmission right from the beginning. I'm assuming they know there is a problem. Luckily they have a new trans and convertor in the warehouse and I should have my truck back within 2 days. Hopefully the new transmission fixes the noise.

Your dealer had one in the warehouse? I have been waiting for a month for a transmission to arrive to my dealer. It was initially supposed to be two (2) weeks, but they have added to it yet again. Hopefully mine will be here next week. Hope they get you back up and running soon. Please check back in with us to let us know how the new transmission operates and if it fixes your issues.

Yes he said there are 3 available and only 1 torque convertor. Could be a regional thing not sure, I'm located in mississippi. Where are you at?

I would like to think it is a regional deal, but I am in northwestern Alabama. About an hour from Mississippi.

We should should be in the same region. Hopefully they aren't just telling me they have one. I have a brand new loaner tacoma untill it's fixed, I'm sure they want to get it back as soon as possible.

    Lots of stuff!
So we went from the turbos to the occasional engine bearing failure which appears to have missed the 2024's and now the transmission is a problem!

Looking forward to the Gen 4's...

Do you have a video of the ticking? I’ve seen one where it’s a constant ticking and sounds really bad. But mine is the every 3-5 seconds there are three ticks. I think maybe there are two different kinds of ticks people are speaking about maybe?

I'm a vibration analyst by trade so I'm pretty familiar with figuring things like this out. Also have an automotive repair shop I work in on the side. While I could be wrong I believe this problem is related to excessive clutch pack clearance inside the transmission. The noise is definitely coming from the pump end of the transmission. Its also worth noting that the noise is absent untill the truck warms up. And does not do it much under load. Only in neutral. All the tundras I have seen have this same noise at very very low amplitudes which I believe to be normal. Mine happens to be very very loud. I believe it's a QC issue with the transmission manufacturer. I doubt we well ever know the real cause. I'm glad my dealership is putting a whole new unit in. Hopefully this takes care of the issue. I will update when I get the truck back.

Same exact scenario for me. Only when completely warmed up and in neutral/park. Dead silent while in drive and reverse. I tried to upload a video as well but couldn't get it to upload. Delta1Seven has uploaded a video to this forum that hits it on the head, although I believe mine was a little louder. https://www.tundras.com/posts/3496515/

Thank you. It sounds like yours is constant ticking.

Has anyone had any ticking every 3-5 seconds and then it repeats? Anyone where those have had any real issues or have been replaced?

Does it appear to come from transmission? If you have an automotive stethoscope you can rule the trans out. It will be obvious.

I don't know where it's coming from. I only hear it in drive thrus when im up against walls. Whenever I get home and get underneath, I don't hear it. If I had to guess, it sounds like it's coming from the front half of the vehicle, but that's the best I can say.

    EDIT: Sounds like this: https://www.tundras.com/threads/ticking-noise-from-transmission.118719/

My 22 did this for sure. Havent had the 24 long enough to tell. I believe it's part of the waste gate/turbo system doing it. It sounds different than mine but hard to tell. I know my 22 did an intermittent tick but nothing like what the 24 is doing. Look up "waste gate rattle" that's what yours sounds like. Many turbo vehicles have some degree of this.

I went out and took a video. You can hear the shift points. Video starts in drive with the tick, then to park, then to reverse, then neutral before the end. Only time the tick is hear is when the vehicle is in drive.

Yeah sounds to consistent to be the waste gate rattling.

This intermittent tick in the video sounds normal. Tundra that service manager owns was doing this same thing when he was in park. Mine does this as well

The new transmission and torque convertor came in this morning. Not sure why others are having to wait months.

Is it "remanufactured" by chance? Corporate told me getting a refurbished transmission would help expedite the replacement but I demanded a new one.

I asked them If it was "remanufactured" or OEM new. They said it was new. Hopefully they are telling the truth. I will make sure I see the paperwork with it.
