Thank you very much.. Bracket came in ( albeit late but i guess i should be thankful that it arrived)
anyways i went with the alpine dash came and at first i absolutely regretted buying it.. then after going through the settings i realized that the camera Lense was not set properly and had to be angled up which was easy. More settings manipulation and i got it dialed in. just took me playing around with it in the alpine halo unit

 

I'm leaning towards this cam setup. Does this hookup allow for parking recording?

 

No. I’m sure there is a way tho, but I don’t wanna hack up more wires

 

A member here sells a harness that plugs into the oem dashcam plug....provides constant and switched power so you can use parking mode...no wire hacking

 

I might check out on the blackboxmycar I think it is powercell for parking mode... I've got to see how much heat/size it is to see where it might go - underdash or overhead. We'll see.

 

Wanted to bump this thread and ask how people are powering the rear facing camera? I'm wondering if the adapter in the headliner would be able to take 2 cameras, or maybe the better choice would be the sockets in the back seat. I bought the Garmin and the Dongar cable. Wouldn't be too hard to split the power off the Dongar cable to supply 2 cameras but it might not work. I would hate to ruin something in the headliner or blow a fuse then have to hunt for the blown fuse.

 

I'm very happy with my Fitcam X, didn't get the rear camera option. Super easy install and you can't tell I have a camera when looking inside the truck.

 

My rear cam is powered by the front which is powered by the dongar cable.. Viofo 4K.. Highly recommend

 

How did you split the power to each camera? I'm thinking a dual camera system may have a cable that comes with it that allows it. I'll check the Viofo cam setup on their site. Thanks.

 

Dongar cable powers the front cam unit. A cable that is tucked into the headliner then powers the rear unit… Not sure how else to explain it

I would think a lot of cam systems are run this way, in order to sync the video. But I only have the Viofo 4K so can’t speak on other manufacturers

 

Thank you for the info. I think my confusion comes from only having a single cam system. I've got to look at the 2 cam systems to see how they work and tie together.

 

The front camera powers the rear camera if that makes more sense

Is the bracket for the back cam hard to get into the headliner?

 

Just wedges in, no hassle at all. Wire for my rear cam is easy too. Just push it in using a blunt tip trim tool or popsicle stick

 

How did you route the rear?

The rear camera is powered by the long cord. You can buy different length cords directly from Viofo.. Just tuck it inside the headliner with a trim tool

Yessir.. You can find them cheap on eBay or Amazon.. My only gripe about it is its WiFi connection only. So you have to disconnect from Apple CarPlay to view it. But the clarity is great, once you go 4K, you won’t go back
