    Hi!

First time posting here. I’m hoping to pick up my first tundra this weekend and I would appreciate some thoughts on the rust status on the frame. The truck has been in the PNW it’s whole life. Thanks!

Ehhh… that rear diff looks like it’s near death and going to start leaking anytime soon. The other parts are iffy. Some look okay and are mostly surface rust but others I’d want to take a small hammer to check for integrity.

And that’s looking at it on my phone, so…

I agree with Bill. This is an odd one. The rear diff looks worse than the frame which is unusual. The frame is so dirty it's hard to tell how much rust there is. If the price is right it's worth exploring more. If not, pass.

I agree as well, I’m having a hard time differentiating the dirt from potential rust flakes. The seller did offer to clean it up with a pressure washer.

It’s far enough away to where I’d like to be fairly certain about the rust before checking it out.

I’m wondering if the truck was used to trailer a boat and the rear diff is rusty from salt water exposure?

Take him up on the offer to pressure wash and ask him about the rear diff rust. Either way, that rear diff looks like it could start leaking from rust.

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
How much is he asking? Its going to be considerably harder to change shocks, ball joints, brakes etc on that.

Going through this right now on a truck with less rust than the one pictured. Had to use MAP gas on all kinds of bolts, the truck pictured will certainly be worse.

being there is a boat in the background of a picture, I would guess like others have said and that the rear diff has seen lots of water.

    only answer that is correct.

or tell him to drop the price by like $5k cause you’re gonna have to replace the frame and rear end in less than a year.
