Welcome to the area! I’m not sure about trails. Maybe outside walla walla up on the Blues… blue mountains. Or outside Yakima towards white pass/rim rock area.

My sunroof just shit the bed. Opening very slow and then a ratcheting/ machine gun type sound from the left side. Almost didn’t get it closed again. Remind me again how yours behaved when it failed please…

It should have been okay at that temp....

I'd make sure the tracks and such are clean and you're greased up properly then do a reset (recalibration) on it

It has been slow for a few months. I got up there a few weeks ago and everything is greased and clean. But I will check again. Likely in the spring when the truck can heat soak in the sun

How do you grease and calibrate it? This is one of my biggest concerns, open it one day and damn thing won’t close.

For grease, I use a good quality white lithium...

The reset procedure is in your owner's manual (pg 180 in mine under Moonroof)...

    ■ When the moon roof does not close normally Perform the following procedure:●If the moon roof closes but then re-opens slightly

    1. 1 Stop the vehicle.
    2. 2 Press and hold the “ ▼ ” (sliding close) switch.*1The moon roof will close, reopen and pause for approximately 10 sec- onds.*2 Then it will close again, tilt up and pause for approximately 1 sec- ond. Finally, it will tilt down, open and close.
    3. 3 Check to make sure that the moon roof is completely closed and then release the switch.
●If the moon roof tilts down but then tilts back up

    1. 1 Stop the vehicle.
    2. 2 Press and hold the “UP” (tilt up) switch*1 until the moon roof moves into the tilt up position and stops.
    3. 3 Release the “UP” (tilt up) switch once and then press and hold the “UP” (tilt up) switch again.*1The moon roof will pause for approximately 10 seconds in the tilt up posi- tion.*2 Then it will adjust slightly and pause for approximately 1 second. Finally, it will tilt down, open and close.
    4. 4 Check to make sure that the moon roof is completely closed and then release the switch.
    1. *1: If the switch is released at the incorrect time, the procedure will have to be performed again from the beginning.
    2. *2: If the switch is released after the above mentioned 10 seconds pause, automatic operation will be disabled. In that case, press and hold the “▼” (sliding close) or “UP” (tilt up) switch, and the moon roof will tilt up and pause for approximately 1 second. Then it will tilt down, open and close. Check to make sure that the moon roof is completely closed and then release the switch.
If the moon roof does not fully close even after performing the above proce- dure correctly, have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.

Lastly, if it sounds like it's struggling at the motor itself... Remove the 4 torx screws holding the overhead console in place which will expose (2) 10mm bolts; remove the 2 bolts and the motor assembly will either fall or can be pulled straight down to remove (there will be a wiring harness attached to the assembly which you can remove or leave but don't dangle the unit from it)... If the motor does come out easily, it's a sign that there's hair, dirt, etc. that may be binding the teeth in the gears a bit so be careful not to twist or bend as it comes out or you may break teeth off the gears... Once the motor is out, just blow or vacuum out the dirt/debris, small amount of grease and reassemble  (I've done this step once in the time I've had my '08 since it was new, and I've always got dogs in the truck, so not a 'regular' maintenance procedure).

Normally, just keep the track clean and lubed up, and you'll be fine... Although, a couple of the guys have had issues early on w/binding, etc. (which isn't normal), so there may have been some QC or product issues w/these newer rigs... I think a few guys w/20s or 21s have had the sunroof issues. So far my '21s been fine, but it's low mileage as my '08 gets most of my daily use right now.

... and if you're looking for online videos and such looks like the technical term for it is 'initializing the moonroof'

There's a similar procedure that would allow you to close the moonroof manually if it were to crap out on you and not function right; basically you'd be disengaging the motor, pulling the glass closed by hand then re-engaging the motor to keep it closed until it can be fixed...

    Shit! Sorry buddy.

I’ll probably jinx myself for saying this but, they don’t make em like they used to. My 07 has never been a problem and I only open it a couple of times a year.

Since pushing 60 degrees over here I tried to clean out that area at the bottom of the front fender/quarter panel. Wow! Nasty! Was hoping I would pull out a 10mm socket but no luck.

If anyone needs some front brake rotors, pads and calipers let me know. Front have tons of life on them these are the heavy duty ones from power brake.

    Are those the factory calipers?
I’m finally getting to where I’m not far out from a brake job… might be nice to get the calipers cleaned up and painted and just swap them out (or have on hand - twice when I did fronts on my 2008, one of the pistons was seized up.
