I have nothing to back it up but I'd guess they changed suppliers for the 02 model year and it was only an issue from there up.

It was less of a difference when I last did it for my 2002 a few months back.

Specifically, $103 each side and $208 for the kit (at my dealer).

That's a bummer. I wasn't able to get info whether the kit came with bolts, lower shields, etc. as part of the kit, but assumed not and was going to order bolts separately. Did you get the kit and can confirm if it only came with the LBJs?

I'm at 250k and have no clue if they're ever been done. I bought the truck with 199k. Think I should shoot for 300k?

He's gonna be hating life when the truck is taller and he doesn't have the steps anymore. I can't imagine not having them now I've dealt with suspension.

I think I bought them individually last time. I didn’t know there was a kit until recently. Guess it would be worth it if it came with the bolts.

Right now I can’t buy a right hand side BJ shield protector (rubber piece) because both the left and right part numbers only produce a shield for the left side! Verified with corporate but they chose to do nothing. :annoyed:

I had this convo separately with another '00 member. We couldn't find a recall that included the '00. But several recall campaigns for subsequent years.

The recall wasn’t due to poor design, that remains. It was due to poor finishing of the ball and cup surfaces and grease that prematurely became ineffective as far as I read. The 2000s were not affected by the recall, the bad LBJs were produced after.

So you bought the protectors with different part numbers and they were both for the same side? Wow that is frustrating.

This happened to me with a shitbag dealership in Decatur AL. They mis-bagged my parts, put two of the same splash guard in packages with different part numbers. Then refused to do anything about it.

But they did redesign the ball joints at some point to make them slightly better right? I still see the newer first gens having LBJ failures though. I wonder if those are OEM that never got replaced or aftermarket.

They made them slightly larger with newer knuckles, but the design remains the same.
