Don't take no for an answer, wind noise inside of the cabin is not normal, ask to speak with manager, try another dealership

They are supposed to be calling me today with their findings, so hopefully something comes out of it. When I dropped it off, the server advisor seemed confident the wind noise is "normal" as a lot of tundras come in with it. Go figure. I will open a case with toyota if service tells me to go kick rocks.

Update: Service advisor told me the wind noise along with a ticking noise coming from my engine are deemed "normal operation".

here is the ticking noise if anyone is curious. Only 200 miles on the truck, I have owned it for less than 48 hours.

That ticking is 100% not normal. Ask them to idle another truck on the lot next to it..

    This.
Do a side by side comparison and let them explain why normal is different on other trucks.

Just starting out but never will be done
I have a 24 SR5 and get a whistling noise and I know it's the mirror. It comes on about 45 mph, I can fold in the mirror and the whistling stops. I rolled down my window and moved my finger around the mirror and it appears the noise emanates from between the joints from between the mirror and the base where it pivots

Use painters tape to tape up all seals around the mirror to confirm

It's not a fact that it's the mirror, when you fold it, wind hitting your window rubber runner may be changing and that's why whistling may disappear. It's usually the window rubber runner that creates whistling.

There isn't a new part for the mirror, and everybody has same mirror as you do. Issue is the crappy rubber window runner. Dealer techs aren't always good at replacing them and it may still whistle, mine got replaced twice and now had to be adjusted again half year later as it start whistling again

Fact. I have the same exact issue. I've driven several Tundras - Mine is the only one with this issue. The other trucks have mirrors that look EXACTLY THE SAME. But no mirror noise. My mirror noise is HORRIBLE. Crazy whistle above 45mph.

I spent months with painters tape finding the exact location and solution. I found the exact location to the millimeter. Now, I have 2" black electrical tape on a seemingly flush bottom joint. Makes all the difference in the world. It is my permanent fix.

Dealer told me there was no noise. Dealer would not test ride with me. Dealer sucks.

Did they replaced the window runner already?
Go to another dealer, dealer should be able to test drive with you by your request without any issues

I should go to another dealer - but I really don't have the time. And I know it's always a run around. 2" of black tape is magic. It's my fix on this crappy mirror assembly.

So, I went to my dealer to fix the issue with my drivers seat thigh support motor not working. I had the same service person as a couple weeks ago when I went in for the wind noise issue - and she was in the room that day, when the service tech was describing how they had 4 others similar to mine that same day - When I went in for the thigh motor work, she was telling me as I was checking out that she now has a 2022 Tundra and has the wind noise issue in hers too. Hers is on her drivers side, but she said now she is hearing what I was talking about.

I reached out to my dealer last week requesting seal replacements. They ordered the parts plus set up a loaner for the day. Dropped off today for replacement door seals. we’ll see…

Did your whistling sound like blowing across a beer bottle? That is what mine sounds like. Folding the mirrors in does not make it go away. Also, it only happens in cold weather between 35-55mph.

I'm thinking it might be due to the normal compression of the gaskets maybe (?) not sure - but I don't remember hearing this when my truck was new, now it's a bit over a year old, and 15k miles later, and I'm hearing it. So, the gasket parts as far as I've heard haven't changed - (some were missing in the front of the front doors (near the hinge area) but those have been id'd and mine has those) so getting new ones will probably only delay the noise for a short period. - I'm hoping they figure out the issue permanently. (maybe new gaskets thicker or something, not sure)

No. Not like a beer bottle sound. Like a referee whistle. It is screaming high pitch. One little patch of scotch tape or electrical tape will completely eliminate the noise on my mirror.

Pretty wild that so many are experiencing different types of wind noise at different speeds and conditions. I haven't been motivated enough to try and pinpoint mine. It sounds like it is coming from the mirror, but folding them in does not alter the sounds in any way. So it may not be the mirror at all. :notsure:

RyanP- I test drove a trd pro last week and it also whistled from 40+ mph or higher. This is in Michigan and oddly enough after driving about 5 miles on the highway it disappeared. I actually drive the route a second time to experience the exact same wind conditions and zero noise

Got a call from the dealer this afternoon. Apparently one of the seals was slightly damaged, so they didn't want to install, thinking it wouldn’t improve the ultimate goal. They ask if I wouldn’t mind keeping the loaner for one more day. They said they should have replacement part in the morning…we’ll see …

on a side note, the loaner is a 2022 Tacoma SR5 with 7k miles. Feels like a dinosaur compared to my Tundra. I might feel differently comparing to my former 2015 Tundra but not my 2023. Can’t wait to get it back! Still
    Love driving it every day!!

Don't give up. I had window runner seal replaced twice before it was fixed for the most part for half year, then it broke again after service, then I had it adjusted once on the 3rd try, and now just had seal replaced again (4th visit regarding this same noise).

Why replaced multiples times? I think it's because either seal was defective or tech who was installing it didn't do a successful job after several tries.

Just ask them to re do it again until it'll be more quiet, worked for me

What's a big deal, here's the solution guys... Remember, it's a TRUCK! so what I paid $80k for it and have saddle tan interior?

Dealer already replaced the window seal 4 times for me over the last year and half 20240226_173252.jpg

lol, you're for sure the winner of the wind noise award of tundras.com

did you eve try that extra piece of trim that the TRD John guy slide into the window channel for grins? it was like 15 bucks on Amazon, Im curious if that would stop it for you.

Guys, so what I did is actually pretty helpful in terms of reducing wind noise.

So if you have to drive long distance, you can do this in a pinch. It looks ugly but window still rolls up down and if you find black color painters tape then this will blend in much better

Here is the Whistling Mirror Fix.

As a reminder - my wind noise does not appear to be the "Common" wind noise. My door seals and window seals look really good. I don't feel / hear / see any cold air getting through the window. There is no air getting around the door.

My driver mirror SQUEALS over 45mph. It's horrible. I taped all the seams on the mirror, and the noise is 100% gone. It took approx 6 months of slowly removing and replacing tape to find the smallest section. This 3" piece of black electrical tape solves the problem completely.
