EV's & Tundra's

So.... I do not see ourselves as being electric vehicle people at all, but they clearly have their place.

With that being said, we are building our house and it is crossing my mind of going ahead and putting in a 240 volt for EV charging in case we sell and one wants that in the future.

So is there anything special you need to do? Will not put in the charger but is it just a typical 4-prong 240 volt plugin? Keep in mind I know absolutely nothing about electric?

Point me in the right direction of how to wire a spot in garage for future EV compatability?

You could run a piece of smurf tubing (non-metallic conduit) from the panel over to the location. That way you don't have to buy the wire right now but someone can pull it in later.
I did this with 1" smurf and mounted a surface mount 6x6 box. You could do the same and paint it so it disappears.

 

If your panel is in the garage, don't mess with it. the next guy will install one easily & you will not recover the $ in the sales price.

If your panel is not in the garage, don't mess with it. it's too expensive, and you will NEVER recover the $.

I have done both installs.

I think we put the hex on Pole star.

 

my easy install at the Lake. 60amp circuit (48amp to car). put it right next to the panel*. the cord reaches both parking spaces.

again, let the next guy install it.

*I have no idea what those little subpanels are - I think they are whole-house surge protectors.

Reading his post, I'm 99% sure he's just wanting to have a 240 plug ready for one, if that's all that is required. No intentions of installing a charger, according to his 3rd paragraph.

Seems puzzling since a couple pages ago in this thread the Toyota chairman was talking like investing in more battery/EV stuff was the last thing they would be doing.
