After looking over wire diagrams for my 2016 Tundra SR5 and the 2018 Tundra on TIS I have come up with the following text and created a few diagrams for my plans on a plug and play wire harness. I’ll update again once I’ve successfully assembled this harness. I’ve cross referenced the Toyota plugs and terminals and found a source online for most of the connectors. I’ll update this info again once I’ve successfully assembled this harness using these parts. The So far this is what I’ve got.

The 2018 LED headlight has an 8-pin plug on the back, it has six terminals but to do this retrofit we will only be using five. The five wires will be for HI beam, low beam, Ground (which is shared for the headlight and the DRL/Parking light) and the DRL (red wire) and Parking light wire(violet).

The headlight adjuster plugs and 168/194 side marker plugs are a direct fit. The amber directional 3-pin plug will fit on the new bulb/socket, but pins 1 & 2 will need to be swapped for the directional to function. You can’t swap over your original socket and 4157NAK bulb because they will not fit in the new housing which takes a smaller 7444NA bulb.

If you have a LED unit like a VLED V3 Triton you will be able to reuse them. This bulb is a double filament bulb so SR, SR5 and Limited models could retain the amber parking lights if desired, but I would search the forums for directions on how to disable the stock amber DRLS which I have done already.

I’ve drawn the pin outs so that when the 8 pin plug is plugged into the headlight, the pin in the top left corner will be pin # 5 with the wire exiting out.

I’ve pulled the wire colors from the Toyota diagrams but please double check your wire color/circuit functions for accuracy.

I hope this ends up being helpful to someone

Thanks @thomasbus337 . You're making me think about replacing my retro fits especially since after only a year the drl strip is beginning to fail.

Let me know if you're gonna sell your platinum headlights.. I'm sure they're pristine and then I could retro those before repairing mine and selling 'em.

Once I get the 18's installed/working, I will sell the TRD Pros I have. Keeping the Platinums for a rainy day...

Thanks for doing this. This will give me an excellent point of reference once the big brown truck show up.

@Roman you don't happen to have the part #'s for the Hi/Lo beam ground factory connectors and the DRL and parking light connector pictured above do you? I ordered the lights and what I believed to be the 8 pin connectors earlier today from your web site now I need to get the other connectors to dive right in to this when they arrive.

I would expect the output of the new Tundra led headlamps to be a bit less than a good hid projector retrofit. But better than the old halogen lamps.

@thomasbus337 my platinum only has 2 wires going into the amber signal because the platinums moved their park light to the drl strip on the bottom. So it doesn't have another wire to be swapped with. Have any idea how that will work out?

If your white/black ground wire is currently in the middle spot (pin 2) on the plug you'll have to move it to either outside spot (pin 1 or 3) depending which one is currently unused.

On the platinum there is no wire on terminal 1 at all. So 2 would have to be loved to 1. Can the wires from the stock harness be de pinned and moved?

Yes, you should be able to insert a paper clip or a pin tool to release the tang on the terminal to pull it out and swap it over to the other spot.

I did some more research and found the part numbers for the male and female 3pin plugs for the parking light/directional sockets. With these you could make a small PnP harness to reconfigure the 2018 7444NA bulb/socket to work with the existing wires on the 2014-2017 so that re-pinning wouldn’t be needed.

The other possibility is to use these plugs to do the swap listed above while also redirecting the parking light circuit to the 8-pin plug on the back of the LED headlamp for the “low” setting on the DRL strip. Then install an Add-a-Circuit fuse tap onto an ignition controlled fuse in the under-hood fuse box, run the wire to the DRL wire in the 8-pin plug and then you now have LED DRL’s on a SR, SR5 or Limited Tundra without having to splice into any factory wiring.

The only catch is that you’ll have to cut the small gray wire under the dash by the flasher relay to kill the factory amber DRL’s on these models. I’ve included a diagram for each of these ideas.

Would it work that instead of cutting the gray wire I switched out the flasher module to have the non DRLs?

I can't remember the part number but I know that there is a module that has non DRL, I think it's from the Sequoia. I have it and no Drls :)

Found the part#, 81980-0C020 works for up to 16 I think. Way better then cutting a wire.

I've got 90980-11020 for the female and male is 90980-11607. Unfortunately my Toyota dealer tells me that there is no stock of these male plugs in the US so they would need to be ordered and it looks like they could be months away! He is going to order some extra for stock so in the future they should be available. I found some on Ebay but they are almost double the price and would be shipping from Thailand.

Thanks a whole bunch you made this whole process super easy on me. You did all the work in the design phase which is often times the hardest part when engineering something new. I will order them and get a PNP harness built as soon as they arrive. I cant wait to see these on my pick-up.
