Correct Spicer Carrier Bearing for 1st gen tundra EXACT TOYOTA OEM

I called drivetrain america and per my vin he says part #211750-1x. Amazon has it but says it doesn't fit...is there an actual conclusion to what fits what what? Holy confused yes I read the thread still perplexed

I don't know. I'm not by it right now. I assumed that I'd not be able to read a pn. But may stand corrected lol

 

mine was prominently stamped on the side. Just had to clean it up a little to see it.

 

Nothing stamped into the metal except maybe n2.

Nothing identifiable on the rubber either.

 

OEM should have Toyota and the corresponding number in raised lettering on the rubber itself.

 

Found it. Just makes things more fucking confusing unless the guy at drivetrain was wrong by Vin...
37235-35030 stamped on. Wasn't shiny enough to see so a marker helped.
According to their site he's misinformed from their system or the vin.

 

After finally finding the OEM part # on the old rubber and today's research circles I have finally found some useful info. I called drivetrain again Gabe them the part number. This time a different bearing came up. 5002007. This IS the correct one for a 2006 tundra 4x4 DC. According to the guy that answered the phone the only difference between the 5002007, 211750-1x and another one can't remember part number that frequently come up is : 5002007 is sealed on both sides the other 2 are only sealed on one side or the other depending on the orientation installed respectively. They would all actually work.

 

It's curious that they would have ever called for a non-sealed bearing in this application. It's exposed to a pretty harsh environment.

I'm about to order one for my 2000 AC/4WD. It would seem the fully sealed version would be the best choice for durability/longevity, wouldn't it?

 

Yes, the 4WD version is sealed on both sides.

Blast from the past. Searching for an oem supplied support bearing. Crawled under the truck and mine was stamped pn 37235-14030. Can't find anything on that including a cross reference. Emailed Toyota (McGeorge) and there response is below:

I have a 2001 Toyota Tundra V8 2WD vin XXXX. I need the drive shaft center support bearing, the mounted rubber one in between the two shafts. When searching on toyota parts I get 37230-5120 but the factory part installed parted is stamped Toyota 37235-14030. I can't find any information on the PN that is stamped on this bearing.

"Per the VIN supplied 37230-35120 is the factory part number. The numbers on the actual parts are not always indicative of the actual part number that Toyota uses"

Just a heads up to anyone else. I crawled under the truck and left more confused with that part number lol

 

If you search for the part in quotes at Google, you get a few sellers, but none I'd trust. There's a few threads that come up too, including this one:

That thread suggests yours may've been replaced with a Chinese part? Or that it's a part typically used on Hilux, which you can find all over Central America (Mexico, CR)

I found another page that equated it with 37230-35080 but that only fits '83 - '85 Toyota pickups.

I would just go with whatever the dealership tells you is correct, frankly.

 

Once my searching yielded a link to alibaba I ended it there haha. It'll get replaced with a Spicer unit. It looked to be in good shape, aside from the excessive play in it.

 

Define "excess play"?

It's normal for a carrier bearing to have upwards of an inch of play, maybe more. There is some room intended for movement. Mine only has 75k miles on it and at least 1/2" of play, if not a little more. General rule of thumb is, if it's not causing major problems, and it's still tight, rubber still good, leave it alone.

 

Mine has probably a 1/2" upward/downward play in it. I looked in my copy of the pdf digital fsm and couldn't find a spec for how much play it should have. I assumed that the play in it was due to wear. My driveshaft experience is limited so i've never dealt with this type of bearing before.

 

Honestly, driveshafts and the driveline is one of those things: If it ain't clearly broke, don't fix it. Or put more simply, unless there's a very clear problem, don't F with it. Especially if you don't know a ton about drivelines, there's a couple of small mistakes a lot of people make that can cause grief. Keep things lubed and keep rolling.

When I say mine has a 1/2" of play, that's what I mean. I can push it about 3/8" - 1/2" in any direction. Yes, that may seem like a lot of slop. If my lightly used truck with under 100k mostly-old-man-usage has that much play, and others on here have commented theirs does too, move on to something that's actually hurting.

And whatever you do, never assume vibrations in the driveline are related to the carrier bearing. There are many other things that can cause, and are often responsible for, vibrations. Check the carrier when you grease your zerks (if 4WD) to ensure the housing is torqued down and the rubber isn't totally gone.

This was a very informative thread, so I'm piling on...

Our 107,000 mile '04 Tundra has recently developed a small vibration I can feel in the steering wheel, but only in gear when stopped--the buzz goes away in Neutral or Park. There's also a bit of a vibration at speed. It seemed to have started when the temps went down. I did a timing belt/water pump/serpentine belt/radiator/etc. job on her back in March. She runs well. I started putting more miles on her a couple of years ago when I began towing my car to the track. My searches for "vibration that goes away in park" led me to this thread.

I crawled around underneath her and inspected the carrier bearing, the driveshaft, trans mount, steering, and whatever else I could put a light on. The carrier bearing looks good--there are no tears, in fact the rubber looks to be in pretty good shape. The bearing doesn't show any signs of leakage. However, it does seem to be at the bottom of its available travel. I can move it upwards and side-to-side a bit, but I really can't pull it down, but it was about 40 degrees outside. I did not get around to inspecting the motor mounts.

Is it time to replace the carrier bearing? Anything else I should look for?
