Interchange 8in for 14in display?

I am also looking to swap the non-JBL display on my 2023 Sequoia SR-5. There seems to be 2 non-JBL models 360 (for MY 22 - 24) and 401 (for MY 21 - 23), as per the bay listings. I am not sure which one I need for the 2023 Sequoia. Also, if you don't install the physical volume knob, what are the options for hard reboot/restart of the display (as opposed to holding the down volume button for 10 seconds).

 

I've tried to research the difference between the two and I keep coming up snake eyes. There used to be 2 production plants for the Panasonic head units and would result in 2 different part numbers for Mexico and Canada. However, both of these units are made in MX, so I'm not sure as to the difference. Both seem to work. @terraj66 just installed a 401 in his Tundra and confirmed that it works. @terraj66...I'm guessing you tested the backup cam too?

As for the 401 being compatible with MY21-23...that has got to be a typo. Toyota didn't use this form factor of head unit any of the MY21s. I can't think of any MY21 that the 14" head unit would be compatible in.

As to your other question: There aren't any hard reset options outside of the volume knob. Turn off the truck and disconnect the battery would be your only option, I suppose.

 

I love the people saying "zero problems" or "everything works perfectly" and then they go on to list several things that don't work.

Interestingly, there is also 460 non-JBL model (for MY 22 - 23) listed by the same seller for 2022 5.7L V8 Sequoia, and 2022 3.4 V6 Tundra, and a 361 non-JBL model.
So, there are 4 non-JBL models listed by the same seller for different $'s - 360 ($1800), 361 ($1800), 401($1500), and 460 ($1700), perhaps these are different versions of the 3x and 4x, series/plants. I have asked the seller for clarification.

I've heard mixed things about the guy as a seller about his responsiveness. He does some things that seem shaddy to me, like covering the Toyota part #'s with stickers in his some of is pics. However, he seems to be the only game in town for these "reasonably" priced used 14" units. I think just about everyone here has had to buy their units from him.

I've been toying around with making this upgrade for awhile. I'm just not sure I can give up my SXM. The rest I can live without. No one who has done the swap uses SXM, so I haven't been able to find out 100% if it can be activated with the new radio ID. I'd almost be willing to Venmo someone, who has done the swap, a month's subscription worth of $$ to test activating SXM on their 14" head unit.

 

Back up camera is good. Everything is fully functioning but my tundra doesn’t have the 360 cameras so I can’t speak on that.
The 401 being listed as 21-23 is definitely a typo. The unit I did get was labeled brand new and was sent in a sealed package. But there is a small yellow line drawn into the bezel. So I’m guessing this guy gets these units directly from Toyota but the ones that don’t pass qc.

no navigation, only works in guest mode, not sure if x,y, z work, no backup camera. just to name a few.

 

Besides the back up camera not working the others you’ve listed are known options you will not be able to get working with this swap. If you use aa or CarPlay like I do these shouldn’t really matter. Well it doesn’t matter to me

 

So just for clarification, If I make the switch to this the app will no longer work with the subscription, correct? It will be a Guest profile but the back up camera works fine?

 

U can go dealer to sync the vin n u would have your account back,,just needs find witch dealer wanna do it for u coz u not buying n installed from them

 

They plug straight into the back of the unit and the included wires have enough length to run them to where they need to go (grille, each side mirror, and rear license plate).

Used some help from posts by @99ways2die to help run wires into the side mirrors.

 

My 2023 Sequoia Sr-5 (base model) already has the 360 and the backup cameras. These cameras (backup and 360) not working with the 14” display would be a show stopper for me, though I really doubt if that is actually the case (I.e., backup and 360 view cameras not working). Hopefully, somebody can confirm. No word from the seller yet, about the different non-JBL models.

 

So just plug the cameras wires n run the camera wires to were is it,,n 360 camera work?

 

@KroppDuster i did the swap with the 361 unit that I mentioned earlier in the thread. My SXM works and in fact in guest mode I don’t think they can track the trial period. I’ve only had the head unit for 3 weeks but my trial should have expired as the truck is almost 1 year old.

Can someone please confirm, if the 360 camera view also works (in addition to the backup camera) with this upgrade? Also, is there an instructional video for the Volume knob/module install for the new display?

 

The volume knop is just make the hole n plug the wires with the module u purchased,,if yours come with the wires

I've did the swap back in the spring. I don't have 360 package so I can't speak on that but everything works except you can't subscribe to navigation and it's stuck in guest mode. Sirius XM mysteriously works, I never signed up but I also don't use it as I use AA 100% of the time. I didn't do the volume install because I just use the steering wheel.
When I got my unit it was $700, the prices they are charging now is nuts. Probably cheaper to go to junk yard and find one

Hi terraj66….do you mind telling what you trimmed the vent down with? I’ve stared at them and can’t quite decide.

 

I used a dremel and cut down to the little hole and sanded with my angle grinder the rest of the way going little by little. Pretty fool proof. Now the hole for the volume knob was scary

 

i have my volume knob order…maybe I’ll have to send you my plate to drill for me hahaha

@terraj66 Just curious on the volume knob. Are we talking just the knob or is there a module that you have to plug in as well? I’ve only seen a part # for the knob itself. If I do the upgrade, I’m definitely going to add the volume control on the dash.
