Just bought a 2005 Tundra access cab, TRD, 4X4. Decided to change the fuel filter and it is not located on the left frame rail near the transfer case as everything I've found indicates that it should be. Anyone know of any alternate locations?

04 was the last year for a frame mounted filter.

Sooo, do you know if they've eliminated it or just use the same set up as the 2nd Gens?

They use a strainer/filter on the pump itself, I would assume similar to the 2nd Gen but I can't say for certain.

2005 is when they went to a plastic gas tank which eliminated rust, therefore, no fuel filter.

I wonder how they thought to safeguard against dodgy fuel sources where an owner may not be able to verify the cleanliness of the fuel.

Kind of what I was thinking Wynnded..... any number of contaminants can be introduced to the fuel tank in any number of ways. Mine will have a fuel filter soon.

I'd be more concerned about water than anything. I pulled the original pump from my Dakota when it was 18 years old and the plastic tank had nearly no crud in it, as in a quarter paper towel wiped it all up with room to spare.

If you indeed have a fuel filter in that location, it’s not an OEM part from factory. Any chance there is legible markings or a part number stamped on your filter?

This fuel filter looks factory. That’s interesting. I have seen some filters on line that match the one I have but I want a WIX or Bosch (high quality). I’ll take some photos and post. Thank you for the feedback Landphil!

IT IS NEVER THE FUEL FILTER. Don't bother changing it. We've been over this about 5,000 times here in the 1st Gen Tundra forum, I'm re-iterating: Not a single member on this forum who has changed their fuel filter has EVER seen it fix, help, resolve any issue. It's not a regular or even irregular maintenance item. This is not a Ford, Dodge, or GM truck, it's a Toyota.

EDIT: Oh crap, I just realized you have a 2012. You're posting this reply in the 2000-2006 truck forum. Sorry, I got confused.

Stick with OEM filters. Toyota has designed their filters to work better than anything in the 3rd party. This is coming from a guy who is a Wix fanatic. Plenty of test data out there on OEM Toyota oil and air filters out there!

This sticky thread will help you find the OEM part number: https://www.tundras.com/threads/howto-use-the-toyota-parts-system-to-find-order-parts.113808/

After further investigation, my friend from Canada was exactly right. There isn’t a fuel filter on my Tundra. Must have had a Ford flashback ‍♂️. Anyway, that’s why I couldn’t find the fuel filter on line. . Case solved. Human error.

I’m getting 13mpg in the city. That’s not bad for a heavy half ton I reckon.
