    Coming from a stock (non-lifted) platinum with 285/75/18's = ~34.8" x ~11.2", since you're lifted, I think the 12.5" would look much better.

Lost a little on mpg but wasn’t concerned about it as I went to more aggressive heavier tire. Speedometer is off by about 2-3mph depending on speed.

Any issues with the rrw 17's and caliper clearance? I am 99% sure this is the brand I am going with. I love your setup

    for the RR7S 17’s i see a weight of
26 lbs on their site, and the tires i see weighing 57 lbs. — my 18” kmc’s are 29 lbs and 35” firestones are 59. a difference of 83 lbs vs 88 lbs at all four corners. the slight issues i have are that the 315’s aren’t a true 35”, they’re also right on the edge of the rim width, which i don’t feel super comfortable about. but most importantly, your C rating has a max load of ~2,500 lbs and my E rating has a max load of ~3,500. i’ll gladly take a 3 lb heavier tire that has another 1k lbs of load capacity; especially on a 3 ton truck. (although i do have the heavier hybrid configuration) and lastly i just think 18’s look better on these full size trucks vs a 17 inch wheel. but just my opinion.

i now see there’s two goodyear wrangler territory in 315/70r17, the only differences being the weight, 56 lbs vs 52lbs, and a tread width of 8.7 vs 9.2 — but the 17 in. diameter and 1k max load rating differences still apply. hope this clarifies.

    YO!

Just purchased a 2024 Capstone and had the factory TRD 3" lift put on with 20" Black Rhino Wheels and 35" Mickey Thompsons.
Had no idea how expensive these can be. Ugh.
    • I weighed the truck before the lift and it was 7220 and after it was 6440. Leads me to believe I did it wrong or a bad scale but I wanted to see how much weight the lift added.
    • MPG went from about 18 to 12.
    • Factory lift removed the dynamic from air spoiler
    Few other mods:
    • OEM Black chrome exhaust
    • OEM Bed extender
    • Window tint
    • OEM Black Tundra lettering
    • OEM Door sill guards
    • OEM Go pro truck mount
    • OEM Warranty extension (from a contact I got on this forum)
    • I WANT the OEM Trailer Back up Camera (but cant find it in stock anywhere)
    • Just ordered the Diamondback Tonneau cover and will post more photos once installed
Questions for this awesome community! (just joined and love seeing all of this)

1.) Should I put the TRD performance badge on the wheel center caps? See photo with and without. Toyota sells these for $70 a pop. Just for looks.

2.) I was looking at Racing Designs Red Brake caliper covers. Would that look better than the stock ones? https://www.roughcountry.com/product/tundra-brake-caliper-cover-71152

3.) Looking at a light bar from Baja Designs for the center grill. Baja any good? Yellow or White? https://theyotagarage.com/products/...ro-grille-center-light-kit-2022-toyota-tundra

4.) MY BIGGEST QUESTION: Do I leave the Capstone grill with all the chrome or do the TRD grill? https://theyotagarage.com/products/trd-pro-grille-2022-toyota-tundra

If you want to comment on ANY or ALL of these I welcome it. THANK YOU ALL for the posts as I learned a lot from this community before buying and owed it to you all to share mine.

Are you getting the rub on the sway bar everyone else is talking about with the TRD sway bar drop?

Truck looks great, so few 6.5' beds. Thats the only reason I am upgrading from my 2014 is to get the CrewMax and my 6.5' bed.

Did you have rubbing on the sway bar with this setup?

    Hi @arrampico

Regarding the load rating - more often than not the tire load rating is going to be higher than the wheel load rating (for almost every vehicle, not just the Tundra). This doesn't necessarily present a safety issue as long as both the tire and the wheel load rating exceed the axle rating for the vehicle. The axle rating is denoted on your VIN placard in your door jam under GAWR FRT (front axle rating) and GAWR RR (rear axle rating).

You are also correct that the load rating for the OEM 265/70R18 Yokohama Geolandar tires is 2,756lbs per tire.

However, please note that the OEM 245/75R18 Yokohama Geolandar, the OEM 265/60R20 Yokohama Geolandar / Bridgestone Dueler H/T 685 / Falken Wildpeak A/T3W and the OEM 265/50R22 Bridgestone Dueler H/T 685 tires all have load ratings of 2,469lbs per tire.

Our 18x9" +20 6x139 FN BFD flow formed wheels have a load rating of 2,500lbs as tested with up to a 35" tire diameter. It's important to note that we tested with a 35" tire diameter, since larger tire diameters exert more stress and load onto the wheel. OEM tire diameter is 32.5", so the load rating for our wheels would be comparatively higher if we had only tested with up to a 33" tire diameter. Also, it's worth noting we have two new 17" wheel designs that were engineered to handle up to 37" diameter tires while maintaining a robust load rating (more info here: https://www.fnwheels.com/17-five-star-and-six-shooter-new-fitments-available-now/).

Back to the axle rating vs. wheel/tire load rating:

The Tundra GAWR rating is approximately 4,100lbs. The front or rear GAWR could be a little lighter depending on the trim level and whether the truck is a 4x2 or a 4x4. 4,100lbs is a good approximation and is rounded up from the heaviest number we have seen which is actually 4,080 lbs.

There are two wheels and tires per axle on a Tundra, so you multiple the wheel load rating x2 to compare to the axle rating. The load rating of our 18x9" BFD flow formed wheels is 2,500lbs per wheel which equates to 5,000lbs per axle. The BFD exceeds the axle rating by approximately 22%. As long as you don't overload the truck and exceed the axle rating (which could potentially snap an axle as well), you won't have any safety concerns or issues with the BFDs.

The same methodology and standards apply to the tire load ratings, which is why the Tundra doesn't blow out the tires with the 2,469lbs load rating (when properly inflated of course). 2,469lbs per tire x 2 tires per axle = 4,938lbs load rating (exceeds the axle rating of 4,100lbs by approximately 20%).

Since this is photo thread, I can't make this post without including some pictures of the 18x9" FN BFD flow formed wheels submitted recently by customers with 2022 and 2023 Tundras. :)

I think I read every page of this thread and now can’t keep it all straight. My plan was method 705s 18x9 +18 with 305/70/R18 ST Maxx for summer and 285/75/R18 yoko geloander at hd studded for winter. Not interested in cutting. Local shop suggesting 295/70/R18 yokos on the methods for the summer, and keeping 20” stock rims with 275/65/20 studded yokos for winter. Shop thinks that’s biggest without cutting. I’m concerned I spend $4-5k on undersized tires. Thoughts?

I hear you and appreciate the response. I just live on a rough road that requires studded tires or I can’t get home some days. I could just swap out tires on the 18s seasonally, but easier with two sets of rims. I don’t really want to buy two sets of rims, so thought maybe I could make the stock TRDs work.

@Mikeeemoore - I see you did 295/65/20 with only mudflap rub on stock rims with the 3” lift. If this was in a snowy area would you feel you have enough clearance? I need to stud mine and live on a steep dirt road that is snow covered Nov-march.

Hello all. I have a stock 2024 SR5 CrewMax and am wanting to know what tires will fit without any lift or level. I want a 17" wheel and looking at "pizza cutter" tires such as a 255/80/17. Does anyone know if that will fit without rubbing? Also, what offset would work for this setup? Leaning toward the RRW RR6-H.

    Thanks!

I ran my 295/70/18 before my 1” level. No issues. 255/80/17 would look small I would think. A lot of Tacoma owners run this size

Yeah, I think the main difference between the two is the tread width, which is just over an inch wider for a 295 vs 255. The 80 size is still a 33'' height. In other words, the 255/80/17 would just look a bit skinnier from the front and the same from the side.

Do you think wheel offset would play a factor in this?

    Thanks!

Just FYI, a 295/70/18 is a 34.3" tall tire, so it's a little over an inch taller than a 255/80/17.

Oh ok, I was using tiresize[dotcom] which says it's 33.3'' but I'm sure it depends on each tire, too.

I may look into that size as well. Just don't want to do any cutting or a lift/level right now.

    Thanks

Mine are 18”, if you’re doing a 295/70/17 it would be a smaller diameter. Every inch you go down in wheel diameter you have to go up 5% on the aspect ratio. So the equivalent would be a 295/75/17.
The sidewall of my falkens say 34.5” x 11.5”

once again they fit on a stock sr5 trd off road.

Long-time lurker, this thread has been very helpful in deciding which route to go.

Calling this my "phase one" until I decide on a lift kit. 18in Method 318s w some 33in Continental TerrainContacts. Truck is leveled w Fabtech's 1.5in front level kit.

This looks great on the capstone.
Some of the TRD lifts with 35s still look like too much lift or too much wheel well. That looks fantastic
