Just came back from a 1k mile road trip - San Francisco to Los Angeles to San Diego and back

So... The wind noise was there, but we got used to it by now. No whistling noises thankfully. Wind noise is exactly like my Mom's 2003 corolla... Not terrible. A $14k car when we bought it brand new.

I also do have a whining noise after 76mph whenever I hit the accelerator... It also comes on if I'm parked and Rev rpms above 2k. I'm planning to tackle this noise with the dealer in the next two weeks.

Nothing replaces the sound of a v8. But I've been a fan of turbos for a long time. The tundra feels more like a sports car compared to the ram. It's lighter more nimble, just more fun to drive minus the noisy cabin.

I think I might have to try something like this.

OK. So for those of you with the whistling noise at the B pillar that sounds like the window is slightly open I have a fix that has worked for my situation. It has been driving me insane so I spent some time narrowing down the source and then tried some countermeasures to fix it.

The problem is the fit of the glass run to the window frame (sash) in the back upper corner is terrible. It is so loose it does not create and air tight seal. The air leaks around behind the glass run rubber between the sash and the rubber creating the whistle sound. I found that two different actions would reduce/eliminate the noise. Pushing on the inner surface of the glass run against the side of the sash and pushing the glass run up into the corner of the sash. Both of these actions effectively closed the gap between the glass run and the sash eliminating the noise. I tried adjusting the position of the glass run to get it to sit tighter in the upper corner but other features prevent it from getting all the way up. So in order to eliminate the noise the gap needs to be filled.

With that in mind I set to find an appropriate material to use. I just so happened to have some 10mm open cell foam tape so I decided to try that first. With the window down, I peeled back the glass run in the upper corner and applied the foam tape around the arc radius of the corner. Then put the glass run back, rolled up the window and gave it a try. Whistling gone.

So to eliminate the noise you could approach this in many ways, just need to close up that gap in behind the glass run in that corner. The foam tape worked, although it does push the sides of the glass run out a bit, although not noticeable unless you look for it. I suspect you could use silicone sealant in there also, although I have not tried that. Probably many other things could be used also. I suspect the replacement of the glass run could potentially fix it if the variation of part works in you favor and it is fit just right. But it is likely over time to come back until they make a meaningful change o the design of the part.

Anyway, I hope this helps others. I am away right now but when I get home I will take some pics and share what I did.

    Cheers

To visualize this is what I did. First shot is the location with the trim in place. Second is the foam tape I put along the inside edge of the flange that the trim covers. Because it is open cell foam and very soft it conforms nad fills the gap between the sash and the trim. Cut the noise down by more than 90%.

I have a theory on the wind noise and wonder if anyone else has considered this. My truck has active noise canceling and is VERY quiet compared to other vehicles without it (like my wife’s Lexus). Could the active noise canceling actually allow you to hear the noise?

This came across my mine as well. Last year I turned off the ANC for a few weeks and then turned it back on after not noticing any significant change to the wind noise. I've been cursed with the wind noise as well, and have isolated it to the window seals. They are piss poor quality, unfortunately. I took them off and used 3M automotive weather strip adhesive when reinstalling. This cut down on the noise quite a bit, but as @Tumbler pointed out above, the window seals will need some significant redesign/quality control checks in order to resolve the issue entirely. It is very odd that some trucks have the issue and others don't. I wonder if there could be multiple suppliers, or multiple molds, and one of them is possibly out of spec..

Had an idea pop into my head...

For all who are having the wind noise, and can't resolve it.

Let's imagine that issue may be one many seals around the door or window...

Why not just get ALL of these seals replaced?

Is it really hard to correctly install these seals?
Or these deals arrive defective or deformed from the factory?

Or some of our Tundras just have out of spec parts such as door and replacing seals won't matter?

Let's imagine tha we don't have to fight dealership to replace every little seal, and just pay for parts and labor at a quality repair shop...

If ALL seals are replaced, would that hypothetically solve any wind noise issues and make the cabin MORE quiet?

Not necessarily, because you might be replacing a good seal with a defective one, since it seems like it is hit or miss with the replacements.

Has anyone checked the noise before/after wind deflectors? I installed mine in the first week or so and can't compare with bone stock. But I really don't have that much noise....

Mine seem similar and was wondering the same thing, ever get any answers? I have an appointment at another dealer but if it's a bit fruitless to take in then might end up canceling.

I haven’t been looking very long but I haven’t seen anything close to a consensus on any one thing…I’ve seen various weather stripping bits (missing or needing padding underneath), side view mirrors, a/c vent/hvac combos, a-pillar, holes in suspension parts, differential gear whine….pretty crazy! lol

I have a '24 Tundra limited with wind noise and I already have that seal. Someone in the comments of that video said trims above SR5 have that seal already.

I have wind noise on the passenger side, A-Pillar area it seems. I have the gasket seal in between the front door/fender, I'm thinking it might be front windshield installation - the bottom seal on that side, is partly under the glass edge there. Unfortunately. I'm going in Wednesday for dealer recalls/fixes for the gas line fire recall and my thigh support not working, I'm adding this to the list.

How are you getting them to change parts out? My dealer said "this is just a characteristic of the truck"

My dealer took the truck on test drives and could hear the wind noise. They put tape along the exterior, moved the mirror, and a few other items and couldn't get rid of it. Interestingly enough, they told me 4 other trucks had come in the same day as I did, with similar issues. They have put in a Tech ticket to Toyota and were working with Toyota on the troubleshooting on mine. They didn't come up with a solution yet. I asked if when/if they do, if they'll alert me to come in and get the fix. He said probably not, but that I should check back in, in 6 months. :O That seems wrong. but ...

Yeah unfortunately Toyota doesn't seem too proactive on fixing some of these common issues. My dealer told me this is a normal characteristic of the truck. Which is a joke of an excuse. I also have an engine knocking/ticking sound coming from my 200mile brand new truck and they told me unless there are codes thrown, there is nothing to troubleshoot.

So I took THOR in to get the oil changed and at the same time have them eliminate the V-8 sound, increase my temporary turn signal to blink five times instead of the default at three (I tow alot and prefer to have some "time") AND look at this whistling noise. oh BTW, I also asked them to check the alignment based on many of the posts I have seen here AND the fact my right front tire edge looked pretty worn since I put almost 5K miles on her.

Guess what? The whistling noise is gone but the mechanic said he couldn't repeat the gripe when he test drove it. Interestingly enough, he test drove it AFTER the alignment. I have not heard any whistling since I got my truck back. Not sure if it is related, but it seemed to work for me!!!!! :)

Typical BS excuse to get rid of you.

They spend time diagnosing and will get paid their couple hours by Toyota for diagnostics. The rest they don't want to deal with... As it's not profitable for them. They'll get paid for 15 minutes to replace a rubber window runner
