Being a new owner of a 2001 SR5 AC with a Mfg date of 08/2000, I read up on this site about the LBJ failures, Special Service Campaign (SCC) and replacement P/N's. I assumed my truck already had a SSC performed but when I added my truck to the Toyota Owners site there was no SSC LBJ service record? The Toyota site also stated there were no current recall for this vehicle.

I contacted Toyota specifically about the LBJ recall. Same response by email your AC was not included in the SCC. I double checked with Toyota because my service records start in 2008.

I asked Shifty' and he suggested I check the, "Run a Free VIN Check" site for additional records. You guessed it, no recall information for my AC there either.

Question: Why was the initial production run of 2000ish Tundra's not included in the SCC LBJ recall? Second question any difference for the replacement p/n's.

I will assume the first Tundra LBJs are not immune from catastrophic failure.

    Thanks for sharing guys!

All toyota truck lbjs should be replaced at least every 100K if you know what's good for ya and when I say All I mean All to current....Luck.

Yep. If you have records back to 2008 and the lower ball joints haven't been changed you're on borrowed time. The issue is that the lowers can and will completely seperate in the event of a failure due to the (crappy) design.

I am really curious though, what the changeover was in 2001 (well, "what" and "when" I guess, since recall doesn't seem to cover 2000-year production vehicles...)

But that said, aside from what's already said, I'd recommend sourcing your part numbers with the updated info in the bullets at the top of this post: https://www.tundras.com/threads/howto-use-the-toyota-parts-system-to-find-order-parts.113808/

That's going to give you the exact part numbers you need, since your 2000-year production truck doesn't seem to be covered by any of the plethora of LBJ recalls they were issuing year after year.

I am also a new to me 2005 DC SR5 owner and have been trying to determine the status of my truck's LBJ's. Fortunately the previous two owners went to the stealership for most of their maintenance and the LBJ's were replaced during the owner 1 timeframe '05 to '08. Seeing as my truck now has 201K miles I feel it is time for some fresh ones. I have ordered the parts kit 04006-62134 just moments ago, thanks Shifty for the info. While researching this I found that there is another recall, NHTSA Campaign Number: 22E002000 Jan 13, 2022. This has to do with aftermarket LBJ's. "Tenneco Automotive (DRiV) is recalling certain aftermarket ball joints for 2004-2007 Toyota Sequoia and 2004-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles, MOOG part number K80521, K80522, NAPA part number NCP2601633, NCP2601634, ACDelco part number 45D2344, and 45D2345. The ball joint housing may have inadequate hardness, causing premature failure." Found this using my Gas Buddy app when I entered my new truck and was reviewing the various recalls. If this has already been posted my apologies, but I hadn't come across this until today. Probably explains some posts in here with aftermarket LBJ's failing.

Yup, Tenneco was the supplier of ball joints for NAPA, Moog and others you mention. So when you hear people talk about the “moog lower ball joint recall”, that one you mentioned is one in the same, impacting all 1st gen Tundra/Sequoia ‘04+

Moog doesn’t make their own parts much anymore. Much of what you’ll find in aftermarket parts these days is outsourced to mainland China, and many rebuilds/reman coming out of India it seems. This is likely why the lifespan of aftermarket parts has dropped substantially and you’re lucky to get 2-3 years out of any LAPS-bought part.
