    Hey Everyone!

I'm living in Fairbanks Alaska and have been to every dealership in the state. they all keep telling me they won't install a block heater on my 2023 Tundra because it has been melting wiring harnesses near the block heater?? I have an Oil Pan heater and a Trickle charger on it right now but with temperatures getting down to -50 F soon I'm going to need something to keep the block warm. Just wanted to see if any of you have had this problem and what your solution was.

I have a 2022 and mine came with a block heater. I have never used it as I park in a heated garage.......I am in Western Canada. Personally I would get one put in. All they do is punch out a frost plug and stick it in the hole. There is NO WAY a block can get warm enough to melt a wiring harness

My son recently acquired a 2021 Tacoma that has block heater, and he uses it here in Montana when the temps dip, my guess the only reason it has it is because it spent the last 2 years in Canada. US trucks don't normally have a block heaters anymore.

This. I contacted Defa a few months back, they immediately directed me to contact the closest Toyota dealer in Canada. Difficult for me as the nearest dealers are in Quebec, and yea, did not speak enough english to be helpful. I may try a ontario dealer.

If only a Canadian member could obtain the relevant PN for install and post ......

where do you get these type of instructions? I’d like to get the “comfort plus” system for my tundra, and my wife’s rav4.

tundra has the block heater (DEFA) already. Not sure what the rav has.

I’ve contacted 3 dealers in my city. No one wants to instal for me.

thanks! So is that from the TIS subscription? I’d like the same instructions for my wife’s 2018 rav4 xle

(Not asking for you to provide) I’ll subscribe.

when you subscribe, is it just for one vehicle, or can you look up any Toyota vehicle?

What I don’t understand is why my selling dealer said it’s not possible to instal comfort+ in my 2024 “because of the bumper”? And 2 other dealers don’t seem interested in selling me this.

toyota website even lists this accessory for only certain trims. (2022 sr5, but not trd offroad). It’s all the same.

Wow, those are sweet instructions. I just want the engine heater probe and thermal grease. Will do my own 120V connection. Got the part numbers. Thanks!!

Toyota North America at its best! It only gets cold in Canada! Why they don’t offer the comfort plus in the US?!

Wait untill all the ice and snow melts, you will need flippers to live in Florida. I guess for now you are safe if you can avoid all those 85+ year old drivers.

Damn, that's a nice set of instructions.

I live in the arctic tundra in Alberta and just got a simple block heater, I would love that setup. I am always worried about plugging in public spaces with the fancy Toyota connector power cable. If it's not bolted down in Calgary now, it'll get stolen, and even then no promises. Up here in Canada that special Toyota extension cord would probably be over $100 bucks and a 3 month wait.

Funny if you live in the cold you've bent over with your ear to the radiator listening for the 'hiss' that the block heater is working. This truck is the first vehicle that doesn't hiss but it's working.

order a longer cord from action truck. Plug tundra in. Drive over cord. Theft prevention complete.

    from:
Winnipeg. Worse than Calgary for all things bad, lol.

Thanks for the tip on where to get another cord if I lose mine. It looks like Defa makes the one Toyota uses, great tip. And even the Action Truck store here, good to know.

It is mandatory for some dealers across Canada, but not all of them. I got mine without it.

With a good battery and 0w-20 oil I wouldn’t expect you need a block heater unless it’s about -20f or more without wind chill

Well, the OP lives in Fairbanks, Alaska, probably one of the coldest places on earth. Years ago when I lived there, saw -58F. My 4Runner had a oil pan heater pad, a transmission heater pad, a battery blanket, a freeze plug heater and a remote start system (Command Start) that would fire the vehicle up and run it for 15 minutes whenever the block temperature dropped to -20F. A lot of people with diesels never shut them off in the winter for fear that they will not be able to get them restarted.

Doesn’t have to be Fairbanks cold. Even when it’s just at freezing or slightly below I like the engine already slightly warm when I have to go out. Better for the engine and better for me (quicker heat)

depends,on,driving distance too. Warm batteries charge faster, and have more power. So cold engine + cold battery means less power to,start engine that requires more power to start. Short drive distance harder on battery (charging)

comfort+ has a trickle charger. Charges battery, and, keeps it warm too.

crown said it was Impossible. Birch wood took my vin and said they’d look into it. Haven’t heard back. It’s been 2 months. Patterson didn’t even reply.

do you recall how much you paid, for the comfort+ ? I was told it’s the difference between the full package and the block heater (which automatically come with out trucks)

What trim is your, truck? It may be the one that the comfort+ is available.
