Hello Everyone!! I have a 2014 Toyota Tundra 5.7L I bought used with around 70k it currently has around 88k miles on it. When I bought the truck I noticed the next day it started kinda rough so I figured it probably had some bad gas. I put a can of seafoam in it and the problem seem to go away. after that tank of gas ran out the problem began again once I filled it back up (regular gas) the problem began again. it only sputters on crank up after it sits for a couple hours. I done some research and found a recall for the ECU something to do with flex fuel crap. I took it to the dealership and they (supposedly) did the software upgrade. I picked it up from the dealership and it started fine. the next morning I get into it to go to work and it does the same sputtering crap. My next tank I put premium gas in the truck and the problem seem to go away for a couple weeks but its now starting to do it again. I get gas at the same place everytime with all my vehicles. can anyone help me with this or having similar issues?? im a die hard Toyota man and this one is really starting to upset me.

My friend had that issue on his 2012 tundra. I think he said it ended up being an ignition problem. I'll have to check with him and make sure

Ok just got off the phone with him. It was a bad ecm module computer. Exact same symptoms as you. Dealer changed it out and it fixed the problem.

I have a 2016 FFV 5.7L V8 4x4 crewmax. I feel the need to notify the public that my car was having really really bad rough starts in the morning - didn’t matter if weather was cold or warm - first start of the day always sounded like the engine was choking. I googled online and found this site and many other message boards about the Alcohol Density Calculation problems and the need to “reflash” the ECM (see Toyota Service Bulletin T-SB-0058-13).
I took the truck in to the dealer yesterday, they did a cold start this morning after it sat in the lot overnight, and concluded it had this problem that is specific to FFV Tundra engines.
The service advisor said that Toyota just came out with a new TSB a few days ago updating the old TSB so that it now covers the fuel pump and the “reflashing” of the ECM, it now also covers all FFV Tundras from 2009 - 2019. The new TSB is T-SB-0166-19.
So I hope this info helps, hit up your dealer if you are having enginestart-up problems with your FFVengine Tundras, and pass the word around!
If I had known about these engine issues, I would have NEVER bought a FFV engine!!!
This TSB engine fix is only good if you’re under 96 months or 80,000 miles!!!

Target612, same exact problem and result from dealer. I have 2015 Crewmax 4x4 5.7L V8 95,000 miles. Cost is approx $1,200.00. Not to excited about that. Can't get FFV in many places in Kansas anyway so next Tundra will NOT have FFV.

Anyone have any long lasting affects by not repairing asap???????

Two mornings in a row it almost didn't start. Finally took it to a mechanic I trust. He's working on it as we speak after getting the same diagnose from Toyota dealer as Target612. Will find out later today if a reflashing did the trick.

My mechanic was able to "reflash" (update and calibrate flex fuel system) the computer and so far after 3 days in a row no issues. Didn't have to replace the fuel pump at this time. Didn't charge me much. Will update this post if anything changes. Just to confirm, my original diagnose by the deal was "Alcohol Density Learn value to high at 81%".

I did not have any codes or check engine light. Wish I did. Are you getting in any warning lights.

I don't have any codes either and the problem seems to be getting worse. I need to find an honest mechanic and have them flash and update the system. I'm in the North Denver area.

I'm having the exact same issue on a 2015 5.7L FFV and looking to "reflash" the ECM. Any reputable Tundra mechanic point outs in the Panama City and/or FL panhandle area?
