    So, with the drops at 4.5” deep and 1/2” front and back you’re getting a total internal volume of between 1.3 -1.5 cu ft???

    @mattvarnell I'm looking to do this same thing in my Hybrid Tundra Capstone (JBL). I have a few questions, but I'll try to be concise:
    • I'm assuming you ran your power wire from the battery located under the rear seat - did you still have to run a remote wire from your amp to the fuse box in the passenger side?
    • It sounds like you have the JBL setup as well - did you just tap into that subwoofer line? Did you use an ADC to convert to a signal for your amp?
    • I'm reading online that a bunch of rattling comes from all the plastic around the battery - did you add any sound deadener around there, or wish you would have?
    I'm looking at buying the same subs and box, likely pushing them with a Hertz Power 1 amp. Any advice or suggestions you can provide will surely save me hours.

    @mattvarnel thanks for all the info. I just finished my install with a similar setup;
    I also had the JBL setup, so I removed the stock sub and wired both sub outputs to the line-out converter. Similar to you, I removed the engine noise piped into the cab by using a Carista ODB2 plugin to modify system settings.

    Only issue I have now is that the bass control knob from the LOC doesn't do enough to modify the bass - if I leave the output on the LOC at default (halfway mark), the subs just shake the shit out of the truck with the bass control knob turned all the way down. With the output on the LOC turned all the way down, the bass control knob does its job, modifying bass from reasonable to pretty loud, but even with the knob turned all the way up, I can't get it to shake the truck.. What I'm trying to say is the bass control knob doesn't provide enough range on the output of the subs.

    I overdid it, this system is more powerful than I'd expected it to be.

    Did you change any of the other speakers in the car. Looking to add JL C2s, Two 10WT3, and VX1000/5i with the integrated DSP.
    can't find any harness yet. Taco and 12volt are pretty close to making them. Metra said they have some issues so far and are getting close though. Pac Audio didn't even sound close yet.

    I didn't change any other speakers at this time. I think it sounds good enough to last me 2-3 years until I get bored with it and by then there will be lots of other aftermarket support.

    +1 to @mattvarnell's comment - the JBL speakers are decent, subwoofer excluded. I'd love to

    One heads up about this particular setup; as can be inferred from the picture, the grill on the center sub (farther away in the picture) is pushed concave due to how hard it was being pressed into the rear seat. If the subs go over roughly 50% power input, you can hear that sub rattling against the grate. Admittedly, I don't push them that hard too often, else everything else in the truck is rattling as well.

    ... Anyone have any advice on how to sound dampen a Gen3 Tundra? :)

    @Baldilocks
    Just came across this forum and want to say thanks for sharing your blue print. I am gonna attempt to recreate it as I have 2-JL 10W3-D4’s.
    I mighta missed it but what width was the top of the box? I see the depth at bottom is 4.5”, but I noticed a slant for the top.

    Thx

    Got the back panel made to dry fit, at 21.25” height it’s snug as a bug up top, did your seats lock back after you built this? @Baldilocks

    So we recently did a 2023 tundra capstone with alpine 8 channel dsp/amp (pxe-c80-88) with alpine type x all the way around along with 2x P3SD2-10 woofers as recommended with the ground shaker box...

    We are now getting an awful, awful Bluetooth echo with all phone calls. It does not change with android auto/carplay, or straight bluetooth. Its at least a half second delay for the person outside of the vehicle. So in other words it sounds fine hands-free within the truck, but the person on the other end of the phone can hear themselves echoing... at least half second and is almost impossible have a phone call as its incredibly distracting.

    The customer started complaining about the echo after we did the original install of the DSP/amp + type-x's. (subs were added after)

    Has anyone else had issues with bluetooth echoing after installation of amps/dsp's?

    Have not seen this in any other vehicle with a factory head unit

    If you follow my measurements, do not add carpet as it it PITA to get in / out.

    I had my DSP in the corner of the right rear. Over time the jostling would casue the wires to come loose. After the third time of I just moved it to my under seat storage with amp

    this things fits perfect under seat, and HITS , plays really low as well (good to 30hz) easy
    I had the JBL sub, just took it out and wired the JBL connection into highlevel inputs that came with the AMP I bought. Any good 1k watt rms bridgeable amp will work, class D , MOSFIT power.

    Thanks everyone for this great info - I have a rare case where I have the hybrid (no room under seats) and Non-JBL. So I do not have a sub currently wired to the rear. Anyone have info on powering the subs/box to the rear seat? Anyone else with a Hybrid+Non JBL that will share what they did to improve audio?
    Thanks,

    I’m doing the same thing as you. Which wires did you tap from the factory JBL sub? There are four wires and I’m not sure which ones to tap to feed my line output converter. The options are gray, black, green and brown. Thanks for your help this string has been very helpful.

    I grabbed all 4 as a left/right input into the LOC. I don't believe the factory sub to be dual voice coil so I am assuming one of the channels is for the ANC or other non-music feature. I didn't spend any time to try to figure out which one is music. I think somebody posted a wiring diagram if you want to search for it and see which one is the right one.

    Thanks, I found this diagram but not sure what exactly it means. There’s WF1 and WF2 positive and negative but like you said I’m sure it’s not a DVC speaker. Posting the diagram here so if someone else is reading this thread they’ll have it. Post #10, diagram 6.

    This thread was really helpful for me upgrading my factory system (JBL 12 speaker). I had already added the Beat Sonic amp which does a decent job with the factory system for highs but bass was still terrible. I took out the factory sub and couldn’t even tell it was missing. I got the ground shaker box for hybrid with 2 tens (https://www.crutchfield.com/product/item/default.aspx?i=575R2SD410) powered with a small Hertz mono block amp (https://www.crutchfield.com/product/item/default.aspx?i=301DP1500. It’s sounds perfect! The amp fits inside the hybrid underseat box (rear seat) on the passenger side (see pic). I’ve put a system in every truck I’ve had and this one so far is the best I’ve done. Replaced the front door speakers with hertz 6.5 2 way speakers and it’s a very subtle difference from factory door speakers but I had the hertz laying around from a prior build so put them to use. upload_2024-10-27_21-53-51.jpg
