What do you TOW with your Tundra?

Topper is an inflatable topper and weighs 65 lbs! Trailer dry weight is 5200 lbs.

This is the first time towing a TT, I am also learning and I was looking for advice on sag, not needing to read an opinionated rant. Let’s just move on and I will make a decision based on what I feel is best for the safety of towing and not necessarily the look of my truck as I too can careless on how it looks. Darn, never heard of an inflatable topper. I have air bags, previous owner installed, But I don't use them to "even" out the weight. That's what the wdh is for, to plant the weight back on the front tires. Despite the peanut gallery, too much rake is going to cause drivability issues, hence safety issues. A properly set up wdh should lower the front and rear height evenly, theoretically. Realistically, it should still be damn close. And set up correctly, should provide the support needed when loaded.

 

I only use the inflatable topper when we take out the trailer as we have a Great Dane. Quite happy with it and you can find it here:

Otherwise I have a Bakflip Tonneau Cover that is on most of the time, tonneau cover is easy to remove and store in my garage. I have to agree that the WDH is the way to go and the TT dealer set it up. May just need a better adjustment and I will look into it. I further researched air bags and I opted to not go that route.

I don't trust dealers. They want a sale and to get you out the door. Maybe find the setup instructions for your hitch and spend a little down time setting it back up correctly. Based on trailer weight, and subsequent hitch weight, you and the trailer should be riding level"ish". Probably just some measuring and an adjustment, and you'll be good to go.

 

Thanks for the advice and I will definitely look into readjusting the WDH. Heading to Arizona in November and I want to ensure we are good to go.

The old man added a dual axel then put a trailer hitch on the back of the travel trailer to tow the motorcycle. The quad goes in the back of the truck. Full load but the truck handled so well. Gosh, I just love my truck!

Yikes! I probably had more of an issue with it than the truck did. Was really annoyed with the long hills mostly. It was a great excuse to get something bigger for traveling for sure. Plus I'm pretty sure I'm getting better mileage now as well.

Bought the Tundra a month ago in preparation for a larger trailer (22-25'ish range). This weekend will be the first trip out with Pikey and the Tundra:

The 4R has pulled this thing across the Southwest without a single issue for the past 2+ years. Just decided we wanted a bigger trailer so the teardrop will likely be up for sale shortly.

 

Is your new trailer going to be blue to match the Tundra?

The photo of the blue Stratus above appears to be a bit longer trailer with possibly bunk in the back aft of the entry door.

Just picked up our new 2023 Grand Design Imagine XLS 23LDE. Towed it about 150 miles home over a few passes and still managed to get 10mpg which I found impressive.

Still need to figure out some weight distribution issues as there was a good amount of porpoising which leads me to believe the tongue is too light (rear kitchen model) but it towed great otherwise.

 

May I suggest looking into a RAS (Road Active Suspension) system. I should have put mine on my truck years ago. what a difference.
