Getting the full Monty today. Brakes bled, driveline lubed, tires rotated, oil change, throttle body and MAF cleaned, rear brakes adjusted and looks like new steering rack bushings. Lower ball joint boots are fucked, so ordering some new OEM LBJs. Axles are Advanced auto, lifetime warranty. This will be my third exchange due to failing boots.

 

Dude. You're not selling your truck. That's just crazy talk. If you lose all your marbles and do something so foolish, make sure you sell it to me. You have got one of the cleanest 1st Gens on the planet.

 

Same with skin cancer I suppose.

I was on accutane as a young lad, and sun exposure is super bad when your on it; I was a lifeguard, my mom would drive by the pool while I was on stand and scream “put on a fucking shirt!!!!”

gonna try some washers under the lower bushing cup first to lessen the angle. Or get extended ones.

 

I try and be smarter about it now, same with the boys, thankfully my youngest doesn’t mind wearing a hat, and he looks super cute with one on.

 

Also if you don’t have that rack bushing, I think I have an oem one I can send your way.

 

Fixing it today, grabbing an Oreilly’s available one so I can change it again in 3 years

Yep. I am. As crusty as they are.

 

Done with maintenance day. Mostly. Happy with my sway bar “spacer” results. Sits pretty level now. The upper bushing isn’t the correct style. Another round coming soon for LBJs, bearing and CVs.

 

Got my 1G rustproofed today. Woolwax.
Always fun getting on the highway & watching the sea part behind me as the overspray on the exhaust & engine create an impressive blue plume.

 

This thing is driving great now. Brakes feel awesome, steering is tight again and of course the motor always runs smoother after an oil change.

 

I think I need to unhook mine. I'm pretty sure it's the source of most of my quiet pops and thunks at the moment.

I got under the truck today, greased driveline, double-checked LBJ bolts. I really need to confirm torque on bolts at some point tomorrow too. I need to start thinking about swapping out my rack bushings for poly bushings too.

 

I got new drums, springs, shoes and wheel cylinders. Not sure what else I could replace other than going to 4 wheel disks. Jason felt that it wasn’t worth the cost and effort. Drums are fine by me, they work.

 

Next brake job I’m replacing drums and discs instead of turning them, start from ground zero

 

This is the way now. Rotors are not thick enough to turn anymore. They will just warp sooner after turning.

 

Boy, I worked in the yard and everybody else did shit to their trucks. Rock on!

 

I mowed out back too. Somehow the yard turned into a mushroom field - bogging down the lawn mower thick mushrooms. Where'd they come from?

 

Finished up the other side earlier. I confirmed both self adjusters seem to be working as designed when I press the parking brake, even the Napa adjuster on the passenger side. Happy this job is over.
