Ok friends. I put a Eonon Q03PRO head unit in my Tundra because I wasn't getting much use out of the tape player. Love it BTW if you anyone is interested. The wireless carplay works great and the touchscreen is very responsive. OnX is a little clunky but I think thats just the app development for carplay is kinda weak.

I would like to install a front facing and rear facing camera that are linked into a 2 pole rocker switch. I want to toggle on front or rear cams at anytime, without being in reverse. So my question is this. If I just get one of these RCA splitters https://tinyurl.com/RCA-thing and I just plug both cameras to that single cam input, will that work? I assume I just wire the "trigger" wires to the rocker switch rather than the reverse light and then I should be able to just trigger which ever cam I want correct? Thanks for the help.

I got one cam free with my head unit but I need a second one if anyone has a recommendation on that.

Even when you have only 1 camera powered on the other camera, because it’s connected via the splitter, will cause a lot of interference making the video distorted.

I thought it might be too easy of a solution. What would you suggest to properly achieve my goal?

Well you’re kinda close actually. What you need is to split each camera’s RCA signal in 2 (the core wire and the shielding). Keep them separate from the other cameras, then you can switch between them.

I had 17 cameras on my truck.

You lost me here. Wiring is not my forte. There will only be 2 cams, front and back. How do I get both signals into one RCA?

I mainly just want a reverse cam and one that will show obstacles in front of me when Im coming over a rise or looking straight at the sky for too long. I off road solo a lot so Im hoping it will help me be better at spotting without getting out of my truck to look at stuff.

Cool Idea, I found this that might work for you.

Edit: Ahh damn its early and reading comprehension is low. Connect up another camera to your headunit and see how it works. I don't see why you couldn't toggle them with a dpdt switch. I think it will come down to the units settings to get things dialed in how you want them.

@Unmbra_SCI You need an RCA A/B switch. I just Googled "micro rca a/b switch.

This one is made to do exactly what you are wanting to do -- switch the video feed to an automotive head unit:

That one is a smart switch, meaning it's powered and will probably give you a cleaner transition from one source to the other.

Here's a "dumb" switch that's designed to switch 3 audio sources, but I imagine it will work just fine for your cameras. The way I understand it, head units don't care if the video signal drops off (that's what happens every time the camera loses power).
