How do you like the dobinsons?

 

They’re really nice and I like having the ability to adjust low speed and high speed compression.

currently set at 1 LSC and 5/6 HSC.

The ride quality is super comfortable in comparison to stock.

 

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, I'd recommend you run your fingers in the valleys of the boot. Just to make sure they didn't accidentally tear/put a hole in the boot during install.

Even if the CV axles couldn't handle the articulation, you wouldn't see it that quickly after install. Not unless you left the shop and immediately started banging the truck around on the trails. Plus, if that were the case, you'd likely see it on both CV axles. I get the sense from your post that you're only seeing grease slinging on one of the axles.

My guess is it's a torn boot. That can happen for any number of reasons:

• They could've accidentally punctured/torn the boot during your install. One slip of a pry bar or anything sharp can do it. Given that it happened immediately after install, this is probably where I'd put my money.
• Torn boots can also happen if you run over something. It doesn't have to be something big that you'd feel like a log. A sharp piece of gravel kicked up in just the right fashion can do it.

I went with 1 inch rear dobinson springs/shocks set up , I got almost 2 inches of lift which is great , but now my driver side rear wheel is sticking out about 3/8 of an inch more then passenger side. I was told didn’t need a different pan hard bar for 1 inch lift set up but apparently I do, is there a bracket I can buy and use stock pan hard bar ? Don’t really feel like spending $500 for dobinson pan hard bar , it’s a street queen so I don’t need heavy duty stuff but the ocd in me can’t let this slide as is

Installed motofab 2” spacers.
The good: don’t have to cut any of the studs on the top hat. Simple, aluminum, inexpensive ($60 from extreme terrain)
The bad: have to rotate the shock mount 45 degrees to install properly. Holy crap what a pain. Even with a spring compressor (after trying for an hour without), it was a fight. But I won.

I learned why people pay to have this stuff done. But it did definitely change the look of the CM 6.5 from frumpy old man truck to something a little better. I’ll put 34’s on it when time comes for tires.

This group is great for info and I like to give feedback as well for others to maybe help them or save them time and money. With the Dobinson IMS 2/1 lift I gained a lot in the Rear, about 2 inches so I need a pan hard bar (trac bar) adjustment. Also I had put Dobinson front shims on top of coil overs to gain about 1/2 inch more of lift but keep preload as suggested by dobinson(seat height at 175MM) but it was a little too soft for my liking so I Took out the shims and adjusted the preload to 181MM which is 4 turns (1/4inch) which gained the 1/2 inch of height the shims gave. The ride is still nice but more stiff and controlled with less bounce, just right for my liking. Either way dobinson are a nice setup

 

Eibach pro truck stage 1. Got the fronts installed. 3 hours in my garage and turned out great. Netted about 2.75” and should settle a little. Next up is the rear.

 

You'll have to report back on how you like it. I loved my eibach setup on my 2018 4Runner.

 

Got the rear done too. Love the stance. I have about .5-.75” of rake. Now my 33s look small.

 

How’s the ride with Eibach ?

 

So far so good. Improvement over my trd sport suspension for sure. Stiff enough for good handling and more forgiving over small bumps than oem.

 

What size tires are you running? I was thinking 35s or maybe 37s. I just got a 23 TRD Pro and was planning on getting a icon kit and was wanting to keep the TRD Pro wheels also. I think your set up is probably what I would be looking at getting.

 

I'm looking for a set of black Dobinsons C59-843V springs.

From what I can tell, absolutely nobody actually stocks Dobinsons parts and they are all just pulling from Dobinson's USA, which is out of stock.



Before I place a backorder on them, does anyone know of a shop that has these in stock? I'm not interested in the teal or red springs.

 

I’m only looking to level out the front and maybe 275/65/20 for my trd sport. 90% on road/hwy and 10% mountains (camp, snowboarding).

Would RC M1 adjustable be ideal or move up to eibach setup? Last time I lifted my Tacoma I used 5100s and that wasn’t too bad/firm for me taste

That's what I did, only I went for the even cheaper RC 2" leveling struts. The plan is to eventually do something nicer (probably Icon), but these actually feel pretty good for daily driving. I haven't taken them off road, which is why I didn't want to drop a lot of money in the first place.

 

Have the RC loaded non adjustable and def happy with them. Very easy to install

 

Thanks. I’ll give it a shot to diy the RC adj shocks. I’ve changed shocks on my wrangler before and coilover for a Miata. Both jobs did take longer than I expected

 

Loaded struts are very easy jobs

 

Really surprised no one has mentioned OME 2865 rear springs on here. Only $200 and netted me 1.25” in the rear. A tiny bit stiffer than factory springs and can handle 300lbs of loaded weight, but when loading over 300lbs it’s quite a bit of rebound. It’s great when I’m not loaded with gear but once loaded (C4 rear bumper, decked drawers, bed rack and RTT).

Ordered some OME 2866 springs to see how it is loaded with all my gear. I’m only trying to achieve 1-2” of lift.

 

Anyone have the updated alignment specs?

 

Do you have any photos of your truck leveled with the RCs?

 

Funny you mentioned ordering 2866s. I just ordered some Dobinson springs to swap out from my 2866s. Between my Leer 100XR and my gear setup, I've been getting some aggressive, tight/rapid rebounding in the rear at certain speeds. I'm pretty sure I'm hitting the spring rate limit for the 2866s.

I thought it might be a balancing or alignment issue since it occurs like clockwork at 40mph so I had the truck aligned again and all 4 tires rotated & road force balanced. Everything aligned & balanced great. I'm also using hub rings, just to help further eliminate the wheels/tires. Definitely feels like it comes from the rear since I feel it from the seat vs steering wheel/hand on the dash. It also gets more pronounced when I add more weight. I "tossed" in 8 bags of decomposed granite (about 400lbs) and it felt like I was riding a bucking bronco on the way back from Home Depot. haha.

After recalculating my gear weight, I had a pretty lengthy discussion with Dobinsons about it. I have to say, they were great at giving tech advice. I was about to pull the trigger on their MRR shocks (I have the IMS currently) and new springs, but they talked me out of the shocks saying I should try just a spring swap first. I ordered the C59-837V springs. It's a spring rate of 220-440lbs vs 250-300lbs. They arrive tomorrow and I'll swap them out this week to see if it takes care of the bounce.

Pretty stoked the way our 2023 Tundra came out. King 2.5 shocks all around with 37" BFGs

 

Won’t this bounce be caused more by a shock valving mismatch rather than the coils themselves? Which valving did you get in your ims shocks? I think they have medium and heavy.

 

That’s what I initially thought, which is why I was going to pull the trigger on the MRR shocks with 3-way adjustments. But, they say that the OME coils for LC platform are shorter than their comparable springs for the Tundra and the IMS shocks will match better to their Tundra coils. They seemed very familiar with the 2866 coils over the phone cause he knew immediately that was an LC coil.

I guess we’ll see how they compare. They should be here today and I’ll see if I can swap them out in the afternoon after work.

As for the IMS valving, they only offer Heavy out of the box, unless you contact them…as far as I know. Pretty sure the IMS shocks they show as compatible are heavy by default.

 

Definitely going with you guys on my new build as well. My current dilemma though is - do I go with the King setup or wait for the Fox DSC's?!!
