    Back story:
So I finally have the vehicle of my dreams! I've wanted a Tacoma for 2.5-3 years, I've reasearched countless hours on them, read loads of build logs, and have tons of bookmarks on tips/wanted products. When I finally started to get serious about wanting to buy a new truck, what I could find used with what I wanted was either impossible to find or almost priced like new, and what I would really want in a new truck was slightly lower priced than what I would want in a new Tundra. So why not pay a little more and get a larger more capable Tundra?

Drove the Tundra off the lot with 61 miles on it.

What I left behind at the dealer was a hand-me-down 2001 Mazda MPV mini van. Was free so I can't complain but started to have issues and started to not trust it for longer drives other than commute. Last photo of it:

    Changed Entune "off" screen:

First fill-up showed 17.4MPG, truck said 15.9 average MPG (including whatever the first 61 miles were).

So far I love it! Look forward to being a part of the Tundra family. Will update this post and thread as the truck progresses. Thanks so far for the info I've found here and for the future help!

Edit: Let me know if photo sizes are huge, not sure how this board handles photo resizing and what-not.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Sorry for the late reply here, busy with end of summer activities and hunting/holidays, plus I wasn't getting any notifications on replies for some reason.

A few updates to it. I received my TRD Pro grill and color matched hood bulge and installed them back in August. This was taken right after they were installed:
I also received color matched front bumper caps but haven't installed them yet, as of now will most likely wait until Spring to do so.

Did install the ABS guards in July, and finally got the RCI engine/trans skid set on just this weekend. Was a pain doing it myself with no lift though. Some of the bolts are in hard to reach spots and had to find what angle was most efficient to lay under the truck to tighten everything. Lots of crawling around under the truck, I really like the protection on them though!

Supersprox stealth rear sprocket 49t (+1 from stock)

In the future yes, I don't want to change tires until these wear out though, and I'm not quite sure what route I would go for lift. I'd probably be happy with 34's and 3" lift front and back (or close to, might be unpopular but I like the rake look...). I'd really like 35's but not a fan of having to cut things... I need to do some more research before that point though. From what I've read it seems like the Tundras are fairly forgiving at higher droop numbers for part longevity. I'd like to keep proper bump stop engagement (if that means changing them out) and downtravel though so ride quality is still good.

Next I will get the bed LineX sprayed, most likely in Spring now also. Was in there a couple times when it was wet and it's slippery! My father's 2005 Tundra has had it on since the beginning and it has held up great. Also have been looking for a tonneau cover that can handle a bike in the back without being totally removed. Also been thinking about seat covers...

This site is a bad influence for my bank account!

I could just be imagining it, but I swear the truck sounds louder (exhaust) after the skid plate install. Could be echoing off of it, but like I said I may just be imagining it. Makes me want to get an exhaust system for it...

Stumbled upon @Les7311 about the front door panel dirt collection and decided to look at mine tonight. Driver side had pretty many leaves but passenger side was clean. This is about 6 months stored outside 100%.

Just for informational purposes, here's my gas mileage history (must have missed a couple, odo doesn't match my total miles here by about 500 short). I would say my driving style hasn't changed, and my commute has been the same since day 1 besides some road trips. Mix of heater running and winter mix gas :notsure:?

Thanks man! Thanks for the welcoming to the crüe!

Well it looks like Cool Springs doesn't offer to paint parts anymore. I really should have ordered the rear bumper caps at the same time I did the fronts... I don't think it will be worth it cost wise to order the unpainted parts and then have them painted somewhere else. I thought about having my chrome pieces blasted and powdercoated but i don't know if I want to go without bumpers ends for that time... I think for me the path that makes most sense is either trying to color match vinyl wrap or plasti dip. I don't know which would be longer lasting though, or easiest to match.

I'm also going to order black interior door handles off of a SR, I've actually wanted to do this since the beginning after thinking the silver would be easier to see dirt on (not that I plan on driving my truck with dirty hands ). Just need to figure out how to take them off! Looked at the center dash piece and hvac vents off of the SR too, but seem kind of pricey. Anyone know if just the chrome ring pieces come off of the vents?

I've been wanting to get a different shift knob too, for shape and color. Again I'd rather not have the silver, and the shape seems kind of awkward... I like the shape of the trd pro knob but don't want the same silver color, and I can get a 2012 knob that is the same shape, but black. There's also the Taco trd knob which looks cool, or the AJT. Decisions decisions...

Thanks! I think I'd do the standard 8" or 10" system through Dirty Deeds.

Ordered the older black OEM shift knob today for about $36 on ebay. Not sure why they ever went to the silver color...

Have the black SR door handles, hvac vents and center dash piece in my Cool Springs cart but am hesitant on spending that much just to get black pieces, and having to rip the whole dash apart.

Offset is the key to determining what rubs. Just so long as you don’t go crazy with offset you should be fine. I got 3” of total lift in the rear with the near new stock leaves and shackles at 1.5”, so I have 2” of rake on mine.

Thanks for the info, took a look at your build thread and I really like that lift/tire setup! For our trucks what is the "optimum" offset (I know that's a loaded question, but just for an idea). I don't really have any want to change the wheels, but if I did I'd probably go 17", I know the rock warrior wheels from what I've read were a standby good setup, does anyone know what that offset is compared to say my stock offroad wheels? I know Icon has some 17" that were designed with the Tundra in mind too.

Anyway, my OEM black shift knob came in, a lot sooner than expected. Here's some comparison photos.

The lower end piece is longer but not long enough to interfere with anything.

Also got a few christmas gifts for the Tundy, a dual USB charger with a short braided micro usb cable, and a collapsible shovel (sorry for blurry photo). DC standard under seat storage FTW!

Put on my blank black rear plate mount I got for Christmas. Less chrome and no free advertising! Not shown there is the clear housing that goes over the whole plate. Since our trucks only use the top 2 mount holes on the rear I'm worried the bottom being open will introduce condensation and therefore frost on the inside of the cover. I'll just remove it if that happens.
Also got a receiver lock (Masterlock) from Autozone so when I get my Diazfabrication (http://www.diazfabrication.com/) TRD logo Emblem it can't be stolen :).

Filled her rear end today (and she liked it). Did some local riding with a friend. Sled is pulled back in this photo.

Did a little interior cleaning today. Just cleaned the mats, wiped some spots down inside and vacuumed. Also put on the Tuf Skinz foam inserts on the cup holder 'pocket', and center console. I put the cup holder inserts in but didn't take the adhesive backing off since I want to see how they work first, right now if the cup is smaller than what the holder is it slides around but stays upright. I'm afraid with the foam insert the cup won't slide and fall over instead. Also didn't put the inserts in for the front cup holder or coin try since I never really use those areas. I mainly got them for vibration damping (I put my phone usually on the center console, and it vibrates sometimes) and from stuff sliding around.

Also put the A/C vent ring covers on, matte black. They don't cover the edges so you still get some glare off of the chrome, but it's better than without them. The photos make them look like they're not put on centered, but it's just the angle of the photo.

Just climbing around in the truck today makes me realize I REALLY need to do something with the cup holder chrome surround, was getting blinded the whole time by that thing. Think I might try plastidip on it.

Also some photos of the seat covers (coverking spacer mesh), I realized I never took any photos of them after installing. They fit pretty well, the headrest covers could look neater at the bottom, and the fronts could fit a little better but I'm happy with them overall. I wasn't expecting an exactly perfect fit.

Going to try to schedule my LineX pretty soon here, wish I had that from day 1. Also thinking about getting the 2018 fogs to change when I put the color matched front bumper ends on.

Installed VLEDs in the cargo lamp, reverse lights, and interior. Thanks to the recommendation from @joonbug on removing the 7.5A fuse beforehand, had no problems with them doing so. I only shattered one map light OEM bulb trying to get it out. My S5 camera blows so it's hard to tell, but I'm pretty impressed with the reverse and interior lights (on the reverse camera, and also put it in reverse with the parking brake on and went out and took a look). The cargo/bed light was kind of hard to tell with the city street lamps around. I'll have to get the truck in pitch black to really be able to tell.

Busy weekend for *insert truck name here* (I really need a name for her, I wanted to do Maggie since it's an MGM, but a dog in our family is named Maggie and I thought it'd be weird referring to my truck with the same name as a dog...

Anyway, put my color matched front bumper caps on with 2018 LED fogs, got rid of more interior chrome, and put my tonneau cover on.

Plastidipped (or whatever Dupli Color's version is) the cup holder surround and shift gate, also blacked out the shifter shaft with some unmarked heatshrink. Got lucky and was able to find some heatshrink without the printed markings on it.

Directions said to do one light coat, and 4-5 medium coats about 5 minutes between each for easiest removal later. Don't really plan on removing it soon but followed those to make sure I had good coverage. It was probably more like 4-5 heavy coats on a base medium coat, but didn't seem to negatively affect it. Just taped off the gear indicator portion.

    Oops.

For some reason I thought it'd be a good idea to tape the back of the shift gate straight across, that was a mistake. When I removed the painters tape after it dried it tore some of the plastidip on the bottom edge.

Backside of middle cover if anyone is curious.

Heatshrink on the shifter shaft. Probably should have been cut a little shorter, when I put the knob back on it kind of shroomed it, but you can't really see it from normal driving position.

Bumper ends/fogs. I've had the bumper ends sitting in my room since about February... Big thanks to @da_jeep_luva for his writeup on this (https://www.tundras.com/threads/how-to-remove-front-and-rear-bumper-caps-2017-and-reinstall.9858/). Helped a lot, I'm used to working on bikes and sleds that have detailed manuals, not trucks that I have no manual for... I still got slightly confused on the plastic plug "nuts" on the bottom of the caps to the fender liner, eventually figured out that they are actually what the screws go into and not just filler plugs.

Gotta stay organized, otherwise you'll be wondering where extra bolts go . Those rusty ones in the middle up top go under the valence in the middle. One Wisconsin winter...
Just a tip on something I found, this is the center valence section to the cap, make sure when installing this bolt to push the cap against the valence, I didn't at first and noticed a small gap where it wasn't flush.
Wonder what other cars these headlights go on, only one screw holds them on but there's obviously other mount points. I just zip-tied them on in those areas, also zip tied them to the bumper bracket after putting the bumper back on (no pics). Thanks to @1UPPER for the tip (https://www.tundras.com/threads/wha...3rd-gen-tundra-today.713/page-479#post-516360). They wiggled a lot before doing this.

    YASSSSSSSSSS.
Just went out and tried the fogs out now that it's dark. Think I'm going to have to take the fender liners back out and go in a parking lot somewhere and adjust them. I noticed the adjustment knobs on them when installing them but assumed they'd be all set out of the box. Not sure if they adjust left/right or up/down, visually looking at them one side seems to be higher than the other (not light output, but the light itself). I'm guessing since I'm judging off of the housing horizontal lines around the reflectors, it is the way they set when I zip tied them to the bumper bracket. Where I'm parked right now next to a curb and streetlights I can't reallly tell how they look honestly. They're definitely a higher color temperature than my 2017 Halogens, hopefully they're a lot brighter too.

Tonneau just arrived yesterday, a TruXedo Sentry CT. It's a roll-up with internal aluminum slats, and more of a cloth top than vinyl/leather. I went with this because it doesn't require tools to remove (want to put dirt bikes in it and the front tire will hit it when rolled up), has a locking mechanism so it can't be just pulled up by the velcro (more industrial form of velcro) sides, and is solid in the middle.
Close-up of the cover material, definitely fabric like. My only concern with it is if it eventually could start having mold grow on it. I'd think regular washes would prevent that.
Seal on the front of the bed.
Straps for holding it in the rolled up position. Put them on the tie down hooks when not being used. They're still a little loose here when adjusted to their max, hopefully they don't clank around.
This is the locking mechanism, the white clips are spring loaded and go under the rails on both sides. I had to try multiple times rolling/unrolling to get the cover centered so both would engaged. They're pretty short.
Dust marks from the slats when rolled up, should rinse right out (hopefully).
    Very low profile.

Forgot to mention Truxedo recommends keeping the tonneau down flat for 24 hours after install to get it to take set. I'm hoping the rear across the tailgate flattens a little more.
