Will 2nd gen floor mats fit a 1st gen?

Does anyone know if 2nd gen floor mats will fit in a 1st gen Tundra? I can find all kinds of 2nd gen mats on Marketplace around me, but none for 1st gen. Are the floors pretty much the same shape? Husky liner stopped making exact fit ones for the 1st gen and just the fronts at Weathertech are almost $130.

 

What year Tundra? I'll look and see what I can find. Go into your user control panel and fill in vehicle details so it shows up under your user name.

 

First Gen and second Gen mats are shaped different per Weathertech's website.

 

OK, thanks. I have an 05 Access Cab...just got it. I was hoping they'd be close. I have some generics in there for now. Guess I'll keep an eye out for some...push comes to shove, I can always bite the bullet and go Weathertech.

 

Do it. I’ve had mine for eight years and they are fantastic.

 

Weathertech fitment is ass given the high-dollar cost. Especially the rears. I can share a posts with pics for you on here. I think it's worse for the later-model trucks, I have an '06 Access cab, and they fit like ass. You need to cut the rears just to get the seat to not squish them.

Trying to find OEM mats is difficult, but do-able. Hell, I was having trouble giving away mine out of my low-mile truck. Finally found someone to take the fronts. I think I still have the rears kicking around.

Thanks. I was really planning on getting some Husky liners, but they don't have them available for 1st gen, like I mentioned in my original post. I have the Huskys in my Yukon and like them and how they fit. I'll take a look at the post you linked. Thanks again.

 

Someone just last week had a new-in-box set of Husky liners for sale on fleaBay. That's where I picked up my new-take-off floor mats that are wrapped up in my closet right now, in the event I ever get tired of the Weathertech overpriced crap. Curious if maybe they're still on there. Have you been hunting on fleaBay at all?

 

Yes. I actually found a decent used set of the Lund CatchAll mats there at a reasonable price, but they're tan and my interior is gray. I had them in a GMC Sierra and liked them. I do a lot of shopping on there. I've also been checking Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. I'm sure something will pop up eventually on one of them. I posted the original question to see if I could broaden my search.

 

Funny. I just looked on Ebay and there's actually a set there. But they're listed as 00-04. Did something about the floor pan change for 05/06 or would I be safe buying them? I checked the number on HuskyLiners.com and they're made for AC and SC. So, they do have them for 1st gen...they're just not including 05/06 for some reason. I'm thinking they should fit.

 

Too funny, my new take-off OEM mats are grey, but not like the dark-dark grey, medium grey (I have black+charcoal interior). Someone would need to make one hell of an offer for me to let go after months and months of patiently waiting

Those Husky mats are grey, but what the person selling is asking is obnoxious, more than the starting bid, and the starting bid is half the BIN price. And they look goofy as hell to me, but I'll PM you more info.

I'm not aware of any major floor differences. But some moderate shape changes did happen to mats 2000-2006 over years. And different cab types have different shapes also.

A:The front floor pan shape of the Sequoia changed in 2005 and the change carried over to 2006. Husky Liners did at one point offer a floor liner for the 05-06 models, but no longer manufactures it.

So, I'm assuming the floor pan of the Tundra for 05/06 is the same as the Sequoia? Is the floor pan for 05/06 unique or is it the same as the 07,08,09, etc? I'm, again, assuming that Husky Liners knows what they're talking about, since they make them. I guess I could buy them from Amazon and try them, since I could return them if they didn't. It's an item that's "Sold by Amazon" and "Ships from Amazon".

 

As you'll find in the thread I linked in reply #6 above, the DC and Sequoia are siblings. The Access Cab and Regular Cab are siblings. Those two pairs, though, may as well be cousins. There's enough differences and lack of interchangeability between them, as an access cab driver, you can't rely on it.

 

So, technically, since the DC and Sequoia are siblings and different from the AC and RC, then it's possible that the AC and RC have different floor pans than the Sequoia and the older model mats may fit. They're still a bit steep at $83 from Amazon, but still a good bit less than the Weathertech. Again, since it's Amazon, I could always return them if they don't fit. BTW, I didn't actually find the ones you were talking about on Ebay. The ones that I found were all Buy It Now with no starting bid and were also about $83. They're all the original Husky diamond plate pattern.

 

I went with the Weathertech floor mats and I am very pleased with them. Fitment is excellent and covers your floorboards very well.

 

I have weather tech fronts. They aight. Not great. The edges won’t lay down so your foot gets caught on them getting in or out sometimes. Couldn’t find the rear one for my AC so running some old generic mats back there. Have a set of weather techs in the wife’s JGC as well and the second row may just curl up into a ball as bad as the edges look. I do like the protection they offer but they lack some refinement.

 

It's all fun and games if you're 5ft tall. You show nearly the pic Weathertech does, with the seats jacked forward. The moment you put the seats back, the rails collapse the nice vertical wall of the mat and make it crumple. It's 2x worse if you have a power driver seat vs. manual. I'm unfortunately over 6ft tall, and I can't roll with the seats forward as you're showing.

Weathertech acknowledged this defect when I reached out to them. Their solution after the support agent reached out to the design team? "Just cut the front wall of the mat". You see what these cost! And they're supposedly "laser cut fit" or some BS. And they want me to butcher it up so it won't hold snow/water/mud liquid anymore. Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Not to mention the fitment at the hump between the center console and seat is so tight, the matt buckles, and it rubs out on your center console.

Fitment on the fronts isn't great, but at least it lacks gross defects like the rears.

 

My rear mat does not experience this issue your talking about. Here is a picture of my seat fully extended to the rear, as you can see the floor mat has plenty of clearance and doesn’t rub when the seat is extended… You have made it very clear you think they are not a great product. I am going to disagree with you. I think they make a great product and for my use (protecting my carpet from my kids getting in and out of the truck and spilling shit like kids do) they do just that.

 

Very convenient you shot that side. Unfortunately, the pinch happens at the other side for me, passenger side at the outboard slide.

EDIT: You have a DC. Totally different design than the AC. Weathertech advertised my mats as AC, and here are the problems for AC owners:

IIRC, this is the OEM overhang that grabs the rear wall of the mat and collapses it, then makes the mat buckle, but it's on the opposite rail for me, the one you're not picturing. But on mine, the mat wouldn't lay any flatter, so the overhang on the other side of the foot lever that circle catches the edge of also catches the mat, shoving it into the seat belt, so it's actually impacting a safety system of the car to boot:

Driver power seat is worse, and it catches on both sides.

Mat buckles all to hell on both sides for me because of those flaws. Drive with it like this for more than a day or two, the mat starts to hold the defected shape.

Fitment is so tight between the center console, the whole mat buckles up thru the center also.

And I dunno about others, but I have kids, and this has proven repeatedly to be a trip hazard when getting in/out of the truck.

I see you wisely carry a spare steering wheel in the back seat. Is that in case your wheel breaks or is it there specifically for back seat drivers?

 

You're not the first to point that out

I'd like to say, "I always come prepared!" but the reality is ... I was looking to upgrade to a leather-wrapped wheel, and for the longest time, I was driving around with it pending install. Partially because I lacked the right-hand audio controls I wanted to install. Then a shortage of time.

Finally got it installed within the last couple days. Haven't even had a chance to drive much with it. Definitely feels way better though.

 

Went looking for stock leather wheels after you mentioned it Shifty. I grabbed a cheap leather cover to throw on it instead. Was a bit of a pain to install it and its not perfectly lined up but it works.

 

I'm considering that for mine, too. I've used Wheelskins in the past on some vehicles, but they tend to be a bit overpriced. I've been scanning Ebay, looking for a gray one in good shape. There's only one salvage yard around here and they don't tend to get many Tundras, or trucks in general, in.

 

It's like piranha around here. 1GT or Sequioa hits the JY, and within 24-48 hours it's been picked clean by people reselling parts on fleaBay.

Mine came out of a 2006 4Runner. Perfect color match for my charcoal grey interior. There's always the Loncky option too.

 

I just thought I'd follow up on this thread. I went ahead and bought the 2000-2004 Husky Liners that weren't supposed to fit 2005-06. Personally, I think they fit fine. They're not perfect, there's no provision for the floor mat hook, but there isn't a provision for it on universal mats, either. Other than that, from first impressions, I think they're a good fit. Certainly, better than universal mats and about $40 cheaper than Weather Tech. I'm guessing that over time, with some heat, they'll relax a little more and fit even better. So i'm not really a fan of WeatherTech even though it would seem among the options available for a DC, they fit the best. I'm tempted to grab a set of Husky floor mats designed for the 2nd Gen and try them out. They seem to have what i'm looking for...a lip that goes over sill rather than forming a "bucket". I realize there's some differences as pointed out, i'm just wondering if they're too different. Sound too crazy?

 

I’ve got both Gens, so I’ll do a test with my factory all weather mats from the 2019 in the 2000 when I get home. May need to bump this thread and remind me.

 

I got sick of looking for the perfect fit floor mats. My dad installed these on his Titan and they've been in there over a year and he loves them. I figured, for less than $40 what the hell. They're meant to be trimmed if needed, and I did indeed do a little bit of trimming on the rears. I didn't have to touch the front. It's only been a few days but so far I love them. I'll take pictures when the sun comes out later today.

Appreciate the pics, I like the thickness of these mats, it's just hard to make these mats look "custom". You can't beat the price though.
