I found a 80s Series Land Cruiser snorkel near me for very cheap and was wondering if anyone has made these work or knows if the install would be somewhat easy. Thanks for the read

lol...I'm trying to decide to either do the snorkel install or head over to the wrecking yard tomorrow morning. I'm kinda interested in pulling a 4.10 ratio 3rd memeber and front diff from a 1st gen squoia. Tomorrow is the last day of their 75% off sale. I dunno if it's worth my labor time to only go from a 3.90 to a 4.10 ratio though. Half of my truck is currently disassembled, so now would be the time to do that sort of swap.

My brief ebay/Amazon snorkel review is at the bottom of page 6... https://www.tundras.com/threads/tacoed-tundra-project.130491/page-6

Since we're talking about snorkels... Any thoughts on trying this other type of 100 series snorkel?

One of the issues that seems to exist with the first type of 100 series "L" shaped snorkel is that the A pillar on the Tundra is quite a bit less of a slope off the hood than the 100 series is, so with needing to run the lower leg down the fender (and somewhat straight and decent looking) the upper arm of the snorkel never seems to quite line up really well with the Tundra A pillar.

So I'm thinking maybe this other style one... with not much of a lower leg needing to run down the fender, maybe there is more adjustability to line up closer to the A pillar.

    Thoughts?

Seems the Tundra antenna is gonna be right in the way, but I never use AM/FM radio so I'd be totally fine losing the antenna. I think the US/LHD 100 series would probably have a similar issue here as it's got the antenna right in that area as well.

I actually also own a 2006 100 Series, so I'm thinking I might just go ahead and order one of this style and futz around seeing if it seems like it'd work on my 06 Tundra (and/or the 06 100).

It's all aesthetics, but i do like the version that has the longer body on it. I do see what you're saying about lining up with the A pillar though. The second type might just be able to be manipulated a pinch more to get a tighter fit to the windshield. Hopefully more parts come in that kit. It looks like it's about 12" short for the intake adapter?

And my personal thoughts on the antenna. I've watched many of the videos and writeups...come on guys, don't be lazy and just cut your antenna off. You're already drilling a bunch of holes in your fender already. What's one more hole to relocate the antenna!? Sheesh

I’m going to play around with the fitment and if I don’t like how it mocks up, I just wont install it. I watched an install video on a Sequoia that had the type @whodatschrome and I purchased. The guy used a heat gun to gently put a bend it in to the neck so that it would lay better against the A pillar. We will see.

I’m going to mount a marine/RV AM/FM antenna to the bed like a CB style. I don’t like how it looks relocated into the fender.

That looks fantastic! Do you have all the holes drill and is it up and functional? It's been raining most of the day here, and i'm planning to install mine outside of my shop. Tomorrow it's supposed to be dry, and that's when i'm hoping to install mine.

Oh she’s on there and functional! I did not cut at 4 1/2 inch hole into my fender just for looks. I’ve only done a 5 mile test drive, but I can tell you that the cooler air is already making a difference.

Looks pretty good @The Black Mamba !

I've long wondered if it can be massaged in towards the A pillar a bit using a heat gun... Seems like should be do-able. Heat up the fender side of the snorkel reap good right at the bend from lower to upper... maybe heat up a bit on the outer side too... and then push it over a bit. Doesn't need to go super far. Would prob make the head a bit crooked, but I think that could maybe then be massaged back outwards if the lower portion massaging is successful.

I just got my snorkel installed this afternoon/evening. I’m just going to say that now i know why everyone is simply cutting off their antenna. I managed to relocate mine, but it took some problem solving to make it happen...

I did a little bit longer write up on my current tundra project thread. Scroll down to posting #170. https://www.tundras.com/threads/tacoed-tundra-project.130491/page-6#post-3356243

I used a heat gun to bend the antenna mounting shaft. It appears to be some sort of thermoset plastic?
    FB42D270-2A3E-4E19-BE04-CE51B2949ABF.jpg

I twisted the lower antenna mounting bracket off of the body (it’s held on by one spot weld). I relocated the mounting bracket and repositioned it a couple inches forward of its original position. I had to tack weld closed the original hole where the spot weld tore a hole in the body.
    D4173548-4BBF-4FA2-A3B5-31CABAFDDA46.jpg

Antenna is now positioned out of the way far enough that i can reinstall the plastic fender liner. Of course i shot some primer over the bare metal when i was done.
