    Hey guys, new member here.
    This is my truck:

And here is my new member post:
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/new-member-first-gen.130897/

I'm looking to replace fluids soon- coolant, brake, trans, power steering. I've been running green coolant since getting a new radiator and want to switch to red now. I'm wondering if this is a legit source for oem coolant? Anyone have experience ordering from them? https://www.yotashop.com/coolant-antifreeze-genuine-toyota-red-full-strength-00272-1llac/

Also need to restore my headlights. Last resto kit I used didn't hold up very long. Would like some recommendations of good resto kits before I bite the bullet and order new lamps. Anyone used a resto kit with good success?

    Welcome.

Read this if you haven't already: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Some folks have used the Cerakote kit with some longevity. The 3M kit I've used, but ideally do it on a day when you don't need the truck, it's super important to let the clearcoat fully dry. But moreover, in the lighting section of that thread I just linked, where it talks about getting CAPA certified aftermarket housings, I think I paid like $150 for nice pair of CAPA-certified DEPO brand housings off RockAuto? I'm pretty sure all the CAPA certified housings are guaranteed for 3-5 years minimum. If you buy the cheap crap off scAmazon, you're on your own, I've heard of some hazing again in less than a year.

Can't help on fluid sources but did some cursory digging and Yotashop seems to be legit.

Oh and don't forget we have a 1st gen specific BST (buy sell trade) forum: https://www.tundras.com/forums/1st-gen-tundra-parts-marketplace-2000-2006.4/

You can upgrade with other peoples' take-offs on the cheap there. If you're heading up near ATL any time soon, there's a member down there whose ARE shell I'd like to get my hands on, And I'd give you my old OEM 5 spoke split wheels everyone lusts after for free if you brought it with you, and I could sweeten the deal with some other OEM and aftermarket suspension goodies :D

Good time to work on the truck before the dusting of snow comes in ATL....
Houston is finally getting cooler (70+F) to be able to work on the truck and not melt in a puddle of fat underneath....

Welcome from TX. as far as headlight restoration, I wet sanded mine and shot them with 2k clear coat. Only time will tell on how well it lasts.

The headlight restoration will never last because the UV coating is now gone off the the assemblies. You'll need to keep it waxed after buffing to prolong the life. But it'll still get yellowed over time.

The best way would be having a bodyshop sand and clear the lights to add back a protective coating on the plastic. Or you could always buy new lights but having them cleare over would be cheaper. You could even do it yourself.

Thanks, I just went ahead and ordered the CAPA certified lamps you mentioned, Depo brand. Only $68 for both, I think that's worth the price to be able to see on my way home from work after the time change!

I don't have a big problem with my rusty old wheels, but that is a tempting offer. I seem to end up going up I-85 about once a year despite my distain for driving through Atlanta. :monocle: Talk to your shell guy and maybe we could come up with something.

I heard good things and saw some reviews about the Sylvania headlight resto kit, bought a kit to try but just waiting for free time to apply it. Fully aware it won’t last forever and will likely replace them in the later months if it doesn’t hold up.

Welcome from NC, regarding coolant I would just recommend picking it up from your nearest Toyota Dealership. I just picked some up and it was 25.00 bucks. Next oil change, I would recommend throwing on a factory oil filter and air filter.

I did those depo housings but did the drop in projector mod and my headlights are pretty damn good now. May want to consider this, though once you remove the headlight reflector you can't put it back in. LINK

For coolant, I run the peak OET coolant for Toyotas, about $18 a bottle, same stuff as from the dealership from what I can gather. They sell it at Walmart as well as other places I'm sure.

thanks for the info. What’s the process like for lining up new projectors? Just drive, adjust, repeat until happy?

You'll need a long screwdriver and just the right angle to get them adjusted.

That thread I linked, 1st reply above, if you search "projector" on that page, along with the other lighting tips, you'll be linked on how to proceed with the upgrade, with real-world pics, instructions etc:https://www.tundras.com/threads/best-1st-gen-headlight-solution.122680/#post-3145307

It's also in the list of lighting upgrade options there (#3 option here): https://www.tundras.com/threads/best-1st-gen-headlight-solution.122680/#post-3143834

I know the stuff I post tends to be a 'reference rabbithole', links to more links, but .... that's how information works, sadly. We have a shedload of info on this forum but it's scattered in lots of random places. There's not another good way to tie it together :(

    Edited my last reply ^^

I realized the links were wonky. Fixed some stuff in a few places. I hate the bluish cutoff aberration at the top of the light beam and this is before I aligned them properly, but ... the difference is pretty astounding. If you've never driven with projectors, it may take getting used to, only because it doesn't light up everything above trunk level the same way halogens do.
