Probably afraid to blow up your engine since it is uncharted territory. Tech should have reviewed and advised before hand though.

That makes more sense to me now since Nat Speed pretty much depends on PS's findings and knowledge of the platform.

Excessive heat is what will kill the cats and is likely what killed the cats in @V10Ace's truck if COT was turned off. Most people might disable the Catalyst Over Temp (COT) fueling but it's actually really beneficial to dial it in versus just disabling it if you have cats. If you properly dial in your COT fueling you're not going to suffer any power loss and your cats will live a long life as @snivilous has experienced - cats operating at appropriate temperatures can survive.

The cat-back isn't going to be the determining factor on whether the cats live or die. That's very much tune-dependent.

Prospeed obviously has not installed any 77.5s since it was just offered by Harrop now. It’s truly a minimal difference, 3% as mentioned prior. Even with the smaller pulley I’ve still seen a higher peak boost of 10psi on the 80 on a colder day than I’ve seen so far with the 77.5 in the 50s this week (9psi) . I look at the 77.5 as a way of getting closer to cooler weather performance and peak boost even on warmer days. It’s no different than having the truck tuned w/the 80 on an 60 degree day, and then ripping on it on a 10 degree day (it’s going be getting way more oxygen and making more power). The tune can handle it IMO it will be fine. Side note: I’ve seen at least a couple of PS projects turn to crap on Facebook, they do good work but I don’t always understand their methods or reasoning with certain things. Just saying it shouldn’t be taken as gospel. Saying you can’t run smaller than an 80 on stock exhaust is arbitrary to me, there’s so many more factors to consider than that.

My only input on this is that it might be the reason they said, "no".

At this point I might be willing to start from scratch with Snivs tuning at least I know it would be spot on or he would keep trying till it was

Well it's food for thought  as always I recommend literally anyone else, JustDSM (OTT) commented above and tons of people like his stuff and he has way more experience than I. Same thing with Prospeed and many others. I'm not a professional tuner by any stretch of the imagination, but I am persistent to try and make the truck work like you want :D I'm like the weird herbal guy you go to when the big fancy expensive doctors cant fix you, maybe that's a bad metaphor

I'm sure your truck will work absolutely great and you'll have no issues (including running the 77.5mm).

Wasn't aware of all the dud PS builds on FB. Always took them as one of the pioneer on this platform but not necessarily the authoritative source.

Concur with the rest of your analysis but I also see why shops won't support tuning it. It isn't a technical issue.

Don’t get me wrong, not saying they should be avoided or that there is a pile of puss cases. You don’t don’t always get the full story from the complainers also so it’s unfair to draw conclusions based off what they alone say. They have always been friendly and helpful to me in the past. I agree they’re the pioneers as far as pushing the envelope for the tundra. They just give me the “sell stuff you don’t need” vibes, and maybe mess with things they shouldn’t IMO like developing their own valve body upgrades (leave it to the trans shops), the sketchy fuel pump jumper, butchering fuel pump baskets, raising rev limits to 6500+, stuff like that.

My take is people like Matt Smith, Viktor and Dan Hardman maybe have other good alternative ideas for reaching similar power goals. The only Prospeed tuned members on this page both needed their cats replaced basically immediately, probably just a coincidence? I guess I’ve seen things that make me feel a certain way about them but it is probably just rooted in my own take on things that may not be reality, so take my opinion with a grain of salt as I’m a nobody on the internet lol. If I lived down there I’d have considered them either way if I could bring myself to pay their high rates.

FWIW I paid my mechanic $900 for install and bought my own remote tuning package and I’m happy as can be with my setup for probably a lot less money.

Maybe a rookie tech took a shot heading up the job and the lead tech is supervising? Your truck is some greenhorn's OJT?

They didn't try to sell me on the ARH they recommend and it didn't change the fact my cats went like they did on the 80mm.

It is possible that the Wilmington shop might be more dialed in but I don't think it will be all that much different. The wrench turner might be different but the tuner is the same guy, he just bounces between sites.

Someone on here recommended NOVA Speedshop to me a while back in PMs. I got the impression they don't work with Tundras at all. They outsource the tuning to a dyno shop they work with. I don't remember the name offhand but I think the tuner is in Manassas.

Edit: The other shop I think Magnuson recommended was in MD somewhere.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on the Maggie TVS 2650 FFV. Was also looking at the Harrop but not seeing a FFV kit and not sure what calibration tool, VFT? Did reach out but haven't heard back. Anyways leaning towards the Maggie as of now. I've been contemplating selling my 17 for turd gen but man not digging the V6 TT at this early stage. I learned my lesson with a brand new Tacoma back in 16 but it was a huge mistake. Anyways hope to be part of the supercharged population soon!

Didn't take your first post in any negative way.

The cat shotgun seems to be a pattern with that tuner eh? I haven't heard of that issue anywhere else.

Knowing what I know now I would probably consider a local wrench turner and remote tuner as an alternative option.

You should check out Boosted Tundras FB page.. there's a lot of members with blown cats on there, certainly not all tuned by the same guy @ PS. The Tundra world doesn't revolve around this forum

I had a 200 cell metal catalyst cat let go. For the money it cost it was supposed to be strong enough to withstand the higher pressure and fueling richness from forced induction. Lasted about 1.5 years at 12psi. Even though its not widespread but somethings gotta be up with Toyota's cats not holding up.

Oh I have, I’ve been following the page longer than you as I recall. Sure there are multiple people with failed cats if you go looking, there are failed cat posts even on the non boost specific pages. Most of them you will see were on a supercharged truck for years and thousands of miles of use as well before blowing, not immediately blowing shortly after getting tuned.
