I own a 1994 built Land Cruiser and woke up a few weeks ago deciding I need something that can beat 12 mpg and keep the Land Cruiser miles from running up. Bought this 2005 4x4 Tundra with 187k. Needs a little work on the front end. But all in all very good condition and I finally fit in the drivers seat. (I’m 6’4) Feels like I’m the first person to use the mpg of a tundra as a justification for purchase but here we are!

Welcome from N. FL and that is a sharp-looking truck. I really like those wheels/tires.

Truck looks great. If you ever wana sell the camper shell lmk. I’m getting a tune on my 06 this week for better performance and gas mileage.

my buddy that got it done said - “At highway speed when I’m hitting 70mph I feel like the car just wants to take off, I def feel the car a lot lighter too, and it’s not shifting as hard, shifts really smooth, and MPGs, I got like 3 more MPGs”

Anyone in SoCal interested. Hes legit been doing tunes for Tacomas for a while and installed my suspension

Right on! Thanks guys. Will keep that in mind if I decide to sell the shell and if I ever need a tune.

You care to elaborate on what a "tune" is? Sounds like something I would be interested in for my 2006. Thanks in advance

    12 to 13 is better I suppose.
Congrats on the new rig from a fellow LC and Tundra owner.

I read the title and thought there was a ‘but….’ at the end. I don’t know if I’m disappointed or surprised.

    But… welcome!

Read @shifty` thread about things to do to your new FGT. If you don’t know the history of your timing belt change it now. Also might want to replace your LBJs using ONLY OEM parts

Sadly, if you're driving in the city mostly, you'll be lucky to get over 12mpg. Or at least that's been my experience with the lighter access cab 4WD model.

Anyway @Ryry263, check this thread out for the ins-and-outs you need to know about your new vehicle: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

PS - bonus fat here. This was a snapshot from when I was working through some basic maintenance as I closed in on 75k miles. Primarily 90/10 mostly city driving.

    Good looking rig! Congrats!

My father in law had a similar Tundra and I loved driving it, especially the power back window (currently a 2nd gen Tacoma owner here.)

Thanks for the welcome guys! The MPG was half a joke but it was a good selling point to my girlfriend to talk her into letting me get a Tundra Timing belt showed no signs of wear when I inspected it so I’m putting it off for a couple months. Did the LBJs, swapped in a new cv axle, outer tie rod ends too. Along with bilstein 5100s and OME 2884s in the front. I counted 20 turns on each tie rod end and I saw videos of other people turning about 17 turns. I have a really bad pull to the right that was there when I bought it but seems worse now. Steering wheel has to be at 11 o’clock when going straight. The tires are all different kinds and have some very uneven tread wear in the front. Going to address the alignment next week and am shopping for tires in the meantime. Glad I found this forum the wealth of information has really helped a novice like myself! IMG_9323.jpg

@shifty` what app is that? Looks plenty neat and I should be doing one for myself and maybe wife's Pilot, too.

Not to scare you, but that timing belt will be the ticking bomb, take care of it sooner than later.

Looks good! Bookmark the 1st gen forum, come visit us daily. "Lunch Table" thread (see sticky threads near the top of the thread list) is chit-chat Bs area, but keep us up to date with your progress in the "What'd you do today" thread! https://www.tundras.com/forums/1st-gen-tundras-2000-2006.2/

Road Trip LE on the iPhone, which is the free edition, I believe, and lets you track a single vehicle for free.

I think you need to use the paid version for multiple vehicles. And I'm sure at this point there's probably a better version out there, but this thing has worked seamlessly, no advertisements, no frills, no BS, just calculates my mileage and I'm off.

If I could add one feature, it'd be the ability to skew my mpg based on tire size. I'm running oversized tires, so I know every tank from here on out (recently addition) will technically read untrue.

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
These shallow floor pans are usually hell on us taller people, but somehow the 1st gens are pretty accommodating to us. MPGs are pretty okay for a truck too.
