$875 Kenwood DMX1037s 10.1" High Definition Car Stereo Receiver with Capacitive Touch Panel

Kenwood DMX1037s is installed (I did have to contact @RainMan_PNW 911 a few times just to make sure I was hooking up the front cameras right).

I got distracted and forget to attach the damn idatalink wire and when I was shoving everything to the sides I disconnected the backup camera. Of course I buttoned everything up and then checked. Took some searching but I found the missing cable and reattached the backup camera. So far so good.

I also installed my wife's front camera on her 4runner and have everything already wired up for the Tundra and will take care of it when I get my shim.



Something that is cool on the Kenwood is the backup camera lines turn with the wheels. I need to read the instructions but is there a why to turn off the OEM lines?

 

unfortunately, you're stuck with the OEM lines that I know of.

On the alpine, you can adjust the aftermarket ones to line up with the OEM ones, but they also don't turn.

 

@BiggHertz - wondering if you can help since you are a Kenwood guy. The call volume is super low on the Kenwood I installed. It sounds like it's only coming from the center speaker and even at level 40, it's a little low. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

 

bluetooth or wired connection from phone to the headunit?

When connected via bluetooth, be sure to turn up the volume on your cellphone.

I don’t even have a center channel and don’t have any issues…

 

Maestro programming, maybe? I know some that use a DSP off the JBL have weird channel issues with some CarPlay functions, though I don’t remember the specifics.

 

The front door speakers sound really muddled. I'm wondering if I pulled the RF & LF a little when I pulled it out the 2nd time and missed it.

 

I’d recommend the @Fotnot approach: Never pull out.

Thinking about it and I did make a call on it before I pulled it the second time and I don't remember it being quiet. I bet I pulled the RF & LF.

 

If I had a nickel for every time I disconnected the mic when I pulled out my old Pioneer… I eventually started to test major functions before bolting everything in. Usually. (Okay, almost never)

 

I'm getting really good at pulling my dash apart.

 

Technically, wireless CarPlay isn’t Bluetooth.
It uses BT to negotiate the initial connection and then it uses wifi for the actual connection/stream.

when connected via CarPlay, none of the phone buttons will do shit for volume.

siri is also a bit of a bitch to get set up just right - her volume is tough to set over CarPlay without turning it up or down while she’s talking.

are there any gain or volume settings in the HU for phone calls? Seems like the alpine had something for those in it, but I’ve already forgotten.

 

On the Alpines, you can also just turn off their lines so you only see the OEM ones. I figured this out after trying to adjust the aftermarket lines to line up with the OEM. lol...

You have to do it while in camera mode, not in the settings menu. Tap the screen while you have the cam up and you can change it.

 

Yeah, it wasn't intuitive. Discovered it in the manual I think....

 

Updated the Kenwood and calls sounds better, I think. It's weird that you barely hear it ring when it calls but then the voice is louder when the person pics up. Also, when someone calls me, my phone rings instead of it ringing over the car stereo. I actually kind of like that though.

I guess I get so try to set this up... I wish it could just magically set itself up. I'm almost 51 and tired of learning new shit.

Yeah, except people get distracted by it. Hell, for the first two weeks we lived here, I’d drive past our house because I was looking at that one…

 

So after my radio install my range for my fuel is way off, it says that I know have 600 miles of range for a full tank. Has anyone else experienced this?
