Hello, new member here. I have been doing all the research on buying a 1st Gen Tundra, thank you for all the EXCELLENT info!!! Really helps!!! I have found a potential candidate for purchase near me, all the pictures look good, carfax says it lived its life in Colorado (I am in Texas)... so I am skeptical of the frame and the rust I will find (thanks for the info on rust problems). Carfax showed minor repairs to passenger rear side (I guess an accident). Other than that it listed no major repairs, never mentioned the timing belt (guess that could have been done by a private shop, but it had a lot of oil changes listed on carfax LOL). It will be interesting to get a look in person, especially after reading all the information on this forum.

    2006 Tundra V8 AC, 217XXX miles

I am going to post pictures of what the used auto dealer has posted for yalls opinions, but I completely understand I need to get a look in person. Will post pictures after seeing in person. Thank you in advance for any advice or help...

Not a ton of pics of the frame there, but definitely looks like the [low] level of rust we typically see for Colorado trucks. The fact it's the color it is, and with a matching cap is bonus eh!

Most of the rust I'm seeing is at the welds, the gussets for the body mounts, but I don't see any delamination. It's not perfectly rust free, but it's way better than some of the other out-of-state trucks our Texas members have bought.

I'd prefer to see the plate reinforcements where they're riveted from the inside of the inner framerail, I think right about between the SR5 badge and the rear door handle. If those aren't warped and delaminating, I'd give it a thumbs up.

Looks solid from the pictures, it would be nice to see more of the underside especially where Shifty is talking about. I recommend taking more pictures when you go see it in person and post them here if you want. Also try and look under the plastic bed linear if it has one. Rust is known to fester underneath these gawdawful things. Cool color and the topper is a bonus. What is the asking price?

Definitely not a bad price for a 4WD, LSD, according to how frame looks when visit and bop it in a few places. Price gives a little breathing room in case Timing belt needs to be done.

It's like Toronto. That middle T is silent, that's how the locals know you're not from 'round these parts.

Question, the following was in shiftys info dump post…. How fast should you be going when testing this????
    • ALWAYS test 4WD before purchase, 4WD parts are expensive. Throw it in 4HI while driving in a straight line to see it engage, all lights go solid, no beeps.

Well, considering it won't engage over, like, 57mph (or some odd number like that), I guess I'd say:
    • Engage in 4HI at any speed, or even if stopped, then rolling STRAIGHT LINE forward, and again, disengage at any time also, rolling or stopped, just don't make significant turns on pavement with 4WD engaged, especially at parking lot speeds.
    • 4LO engagement has to meet some conditions: You must have 4HI already engaged, 4HI LED is solid. Must be in Neutral. Then press 4HI button, wait for LED to go solid.

To that point ^^ though, I know it says 62, but I swear the highest speed I could engage it in my truck was 57. I remember there was definitely a discrepancy between the manual and reality.

Now I've got upsized tires, I guess it doesn't matter anymore

I'd be happy to see her go to a fellow enthusiast. Maybe this way I can see her progression in person or at least here. I couldn't bring her home anyways. I wanted to though. Haha

I assume they did a handle-flip on the tailgate? And the shoddy paint is to cover up the bodywork required? Looks cool minus the paint.
