Lots of reckless drivers in Houston. I'm looking into mounting a dash cam. Any advice on which camera is best, and how you mounted it? I'm considering a couple of the popular models on Amazon, Rexing V1 and the KDlinks X1. Thanks

Not answering for Steve, but I went with the rexing v1. It's a clean mount. Cable is super long so I was able to tuck it away completely. Only visible part is where it comes out of head liner right before it goes into the camera (camera mounts to upper windshield with 3m tape), and the portion coming out of the power supply, which is plugged into the 12v by the USB port. I can take pics if interested. The camera has worked nearly flawlessly. I threw in a 128gb microSD card and when it fills up the camera just rights over the oldest video. Stores about 2 weeks of video.

I have the Rexing. Works just fine. I opted for hard wired after the plug was knocked out a few times. I used my switched cig lighter that I had abandoned previously as a power source. I ran the wire under the edge of the headliner, under the A pillar trim to the back of the dash.

How does it handle the heat in Texas? Pics would really be appreciated. Does it come with an SD card?

I've used a Garmin Dashcam 20 for a couple of years now in the Kansas heat and cold and have been happy with the unit. It uses a micro SD card and off loading is quick and easy and after a while I forgot it was even there. With all of the crazy drivers out today i have never had anything happen that was worthy of taking video off of it. I do like the photo button and have had to only reach up to the unit to snap a picture of a crazy, or very cool vehicle or some nut dancing in the street.
I like the idea of having my speed and location on the screen and being a gadget tech guy i always figure more data is good. BUT.........I have been given a lot of thought to the idea that it can work against me if i were in the wrong. If i were in an accident I would never hand over my unit and I would demand they get a search warrant for it. Since my unit records my speed you need to make damn sure that you're not speeding and if you ran a yellow light somewhere on the clip I am sure a lawyer would try to use that against you. You never know.....

Anyone has a dash cam that attaches to anything other than the windshield. I tinted my windshield and it's not recommended to stick anything onto the tint.

Has anyone used a GoPro as a dash cam? Although it would suck having to remove it each time you leave to keep it from getting it stolen.

I would look into a blendmount that mounts under your mirror. They are a little pricey but worth it.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
I considered the Rexing but ended up going with a Mini 0807 because of issues I have heard about with batteries in heat. A dash-cam with a 'supercapacitor' will be much more reliable, if the inside of your truck frequently gets to 125° F or more. I have had the Mini 0807 in my truck for 8 months now and have no complaints. The min-series dash cameras are quite popular overseas, especially in Australia. It has a very small form factor and is easily concealed behind the rear-view mirror.

No write up. It was super easy. I ordered the hard wire kit they sell instead of using the cigarette lighter plug cord. Of the 2 cords you can see in my picture, the one on the right is tucked up into the headliner trim using a plastic panel removal tool and it runs to the top right corner of the windshield for the GPS module. The one on the left is also tucked up into the headliner trim and heads left down the the drivers side pillar ( I used the grab handle thread to remove this piece) and goes down into the fuse kick panel on the drivers side using an add-a-fuse.

I like the Blackvue cameras for being hidden. They offer several configurations. I installed one in a buddy's raptor last week. Very easy install ran it into the glove box for power. Just a wire ran through the headliner and rubber door seal. Nothing to complicated took me under half an hour to install.
For what I do I wanted something noticeable so I picked up an Amazon special that had a big chrome camera lens on it. The one I had ran me about 90 and it's been on the truck for 50 thousand miles plus several hours of idling. If you want a hidden one I'd get this.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01H...ash+camera&dpPl=1&dpID=41ZghRVMtjL&ref=plSrch
This is about the one I run
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00O...ash+camera&dpPl=1&dpID=51pczpBbfhL&ref=plSrch

Over all of say a dash cam is a great item to have especially if you're driving in the city a lot. Or in my case wanna catch video of when I hit a deer again.

@BOBONTUESDAY, can you post a pic of where and how you mounted your cam? Did you order the same camera as the link? How does it handle heat? How is night vision? May order based on y review.

    Thanks!

I've got mine mounted right in front of my rearview mirror. I'll take pics in the morning. I just used the suction cup mount that came with it and it hasn't moved since I put it in. I can't attest to extreme heat as the hottest it's gotten here all summer has been around 90. But it's handled the Minnesota cold fine. Night vision is pretty good it makes the headlights look a bit brighter than they actually are on film. I haven't had to pull anything off of it yet but it's nice to be able to review footage off the camera itself. I know some cameras allow you to connect to your phone. But that comes at a bit higher price.
This is the exact camera I have. It's been in the truck since January so around 40 thousand miles.
