Strange Vibrations

Hello I’ve got this issue where my truck vibrates when I accelerate between 35mph-45mph, mostly around 35mph. A coworker mentioned it could be a drive shaft issue, several threads lead to the same conclusion. As fellow truck owners did you guys replace the parts yourself or take it to a professional?

This is usually related more to a clunking noise but can't hurt to check. There's more threads about this issue if you look around.

 

This has come up several times as you noticed. And it's been a myriad of things, from wheel bearings, to U-joints, to carrier bearings, to driveline angle changes after lifting, to tire cupping and even more.

I guess it would help to know if you're lifted or not, and if you are, how much and whether you corrected angles with shims/diff drop etc.

And yes, you'd always want to go to a shop that specializes in driveshaft balancing etc. if you suspect balance is part of the issue, but if you've never had your driveshaft out on either end, no major changes to the driveline, and haven't been in an accident, [EDIT: or you don't see signs a shaft weight broke off or is missing], I'd be shocked if it was the driveshaft. Not saying it's impossible, but would be hugely improbable IMHO.

 

When I had this problem I tried replacing the carrier bearing, then the u-joints, and finally a visit to the drive shaft shop. Nothing worked...the problem persisted. Finally I took it to a professional, who diagnosed the problem as a front hub bearing.

Moral of the story? I wish the professional had been my first stop...

Coming back to this way after this is what my friend found. The rubber inside the driveshaft support bearing was destroyed & needed to be replaced. U-joints also needed replacing because the needle bearings had turned to dust. My friend saw these issues while we were replacing the fuel pump / sending unit whatever the heck that thing is called.
