68861763-5D30-4E98-B231-BEA020E4B436.jpg The symptoms for this Recall is a total loss of fluid suddenly due to the c clip popping out and allowing the fluid to blow out the seal. The dealer will be able to tell if it was replaced by looking at the stamp in the pie.
Do you happen to have a TRD skid plate up front? If so, this is a coming problem with the skid plate where it mounts to the crossmember.

Keep us posted on what they find.

100% agree with this. Make sure they do an alignment too if they replace any front end parts.

I'm wondering if they did change the rack and screwed it up somehow. Not proper torque maybe?

Imprint of that mark, i don’t see a stamp mark??
I took a video of what it’s doing but don’t think I can upload videos. Definitely not normal.

Recall or not you shot not be getting racking knocking sounds from the front end. Mine went out all of a sudden while doing lock to lock turns reversing into a parking stall. Seems like all the failures I've read about on here have been sudden failure with one happening while the guy was driving. They may have changed the rack out prior to you receiving it and did not install properly. Taking it to dealer as sooon as you can. Good luck!!

Can you find any parts that are loose? Are you going to have the dealer look at it?

Hopefully it’s not the rack and a quick fix. Keep us posted and good luck.

They said, ‘the steering rack bolts have poor tightening, tightened to specifications’.
I picked it up and the steering wheel is off just a bit, enough to notice when driving straight. If you hold the wheel straight it pulls to the left. So I took it back. I’m not sure if an alignment will fix that or if they’ll have to adjust something else.

Sounds weird to me. Did they specifically say which bolts? A real alignment should fix the steering wheel but don’t hold your breath they will be able to do it. It took my dealer numerous attempts and it’s still not 100% perfect but very close.

We’re you able to confirm it didn’t make any noise before you took it back?

Yes they verified the rack is okay in regards to the recall, it is a replacement rack. I turned the wheel full left and right in park without the noises and it was smooth as normal. I tried talking to them and these front desk guys never seem to be able to explain much. I was really nice to them, but it better be 100% back to normal tomorrow when I go pick it up. You would think they would have done an alignment afterwards.

Even if the wheel isn’t centered it should need ok for your trip. Hopefully it will be right but if not, make sure you hold them to making it right. We paid too much for these vehicles for them to get away with it.

Poor tightening eh? Now the steering wheel isn't centered. Something isn't right. Bushing worn maybe? I'd be asking for an extended warranty on anything they've touched.

Definitely ask for a specific location and description of what was loose and what they did to fix it.

I received the recall. When I went in for the first service they told me it didn't apply to my truck as I have not had the steering rack replaced. o_O

I asked why would they replace the rack on a new truck then recall the replacement.

There was a batch of racks that were produced with a flaw. They may have been issued out as replacement parts. It says this in the notice.

Picked it up today and wheel and alignment are good now. Don’t know what there is to tighten besides the tie-rod parts or if anything could have been damaged when it was loose.

I think it’s on the door sticker. I’ll go check in a few min to be sure.

Edit - It’s on this sticker. Mine was 02/18.

I forgot the dates on the recall, but if it’s between them then yes get it checked out. Better to take some time to get it checked than have a failure on the road.

Dealer that did my free oil changes called me about the recall. I checked my VIN on the Toyota website and it shows no open recalls. Almost 80k miles and no issues. I think they are just looking to make some money off Toyota. Dealer that called is not the one I bought the truck from.

May as well ask. Seems like not all trucks built during August to October 2021 were impacted. I have a 10/21 truck and apparently wasn't impacted.

i have a 2007 DC w 4.7... i got this recall letter as well... now my steering is ridiculously difficult to steer like i have to move it both ways manually all the time but on highways it moves a lot better but i avoid them until this is fixed but it is scary as hell to drive and with having two shoulder surgeries it's also physically difficult as well. Called dealer and they said it's just a safety check... and they keep dodging me and returning my calls... i bought my truck CPO and it has a new frame as well .. my question is have they identified a proper fix for this yet cus i feel like one of these days my number is going to be up and i'm going to get into an accident

so the recall is purely there just to make sure a faulty replacement rack wasnt installed in the truck. 99% of the older trucks dont have the affected rack. if you take it into the dealer they get a picture of the part number and QR code on the rack and upload it to a site to determine if its affected or not

if the frame was replaced and the racks original, something else may be the cause
