I was gonna say that swapping the rear camera to the front input proves the input is working. But what about connecting the front camera to the rear input? Methinks something in the powering/triggering of the front camera is at fault here.

Is the "power" wire you are using actually the trigger wire by the RCA plug?

No, trigger wire is unused. It’s wired just like that diagram.

Is there a trigger wire on the Alpine? If so, that’s probably the issue. I don’t believe the Kenwood used one.

For front camera I wouldn't expect the trigger wire to be needed, but am not 100% sure TBH.

So I made a run to the grocery store today, first drive after the install. Everything works, but a few points:

    1. The stock reverse camera works fine, but blown up on the 11" screen the low definition is shown and it does appear blurry ish.
2 The HU does vibrate and jiggle a bit. Yes, I double checked that everything was tight. My guess is the plastic Metra kit doesn't help, plus I mounted it high enough to allow use of the "pocket" and on the extended setting. It might help if I lowered it and moved it to the closer to the dash setting, but no fucking way in hell am I tearing the dash apart again.
    3. The Sirius XM module works fine with the stock antenna but every time I open XM, I get a message than not everything is supported unless I have WiFi. If I hit dismiss, it works fine, if I hit the option to turn it on, it goes to the Alpine settings that show the WiFi is through my phone link. If I toggle to my home WiFi, the warning goes away, but of course as soon as I drive away, the signal is lost. Why can it not go through my phone when the setting clearly says linked to phone?

RE: #3 - are you using wireless AA? If so, it uses your phone WiFi to connect and stream the data for the data coming from the phone and this can’t also use it for a wireless hotspot. That’s the crappy thing about wireless AA and CarPlay. So you end up having to use wired AA and then hotspotting your phone or buying a dedicated hotspot (requiring additional cellular cost)

The reverse cam will look a little blurry. The alpine resolution is much better then stock so it just amplifies the defects.

I imagine ur screen is dancing around. I have mine at the lowest setting and it moves just a little.

I read that '18+ cameras are better resolution. Not sure how accurate that is, though...

    1) this is an annoyance for me as well, but I’ve gotten used to it after a couple weeks. I’ll dive into an aftermarket replacement hack someday.
    2) I mounted mine in the lower position in the dash kit and dropped the screen a couple holes from the factory setting. It’s solid af even with the shitty Metra kit.
    3) He’s talking about a pop-up for the native SXM app, which has some 360 bullshit enhancement thing that needs WiFi for metadata or something. I just hit dismiss, but would love to find a way to bypass it. Nothing to do with the phone’s infotainment.

I got a 2018 with the Kenwood installed. I feel like my resolution is terrible now too. And the video just seems a little washed out. Not bad enough to want to go back to the original HU and I do love the new large display. If anyone knows of a good plug and play replacement camera that would be better I would also be interested. I doubt there’s anything out there so I will probably just live with it.

Started futzing around with fitment on the Alpine tonight. I have the “slide” positioned in the “short” or “in” position (the way it came from the factory). The screen I have set to one position up from the bottom (-15mm according to the manual). The body I have mounted in the lower part of the Dasaita mounting brackets.

I am aiming to keep it low without interfering with the AC panel, and want to tuck it back as far as possible. I need to pull the radio to actually test fit with the dash, but just based on what I’ve got here I’m thinking about slotting the mounting holes in the side plates to slide it back into the dash a little farther. I may also experiment with dropping it one more set of holes. I am glad to say that none of the screws were overnight on mine.

Ok I got something kinda weird going on with my Kenwood. My apple CarPlay was starting to skip and freeze while driving. I upgraded the software and it persisted. I recognized that its happens at the same spot on my drive every day. Very weird but seems like there is some outside interference of some kind. The apple CarPlay completely freezes and the music begins to skip. I have full bars on my phone so it does not seem to be a data issue. Anyway kinda weird. I have another vehicle that has CarPlay and it does not happen to that car at the same spot. It's about a quarter mile stretch of road right around a radio tower which is suspicious. Once I get past though everything goes back to normal. Anyone have any ideas what could cause that? Its very annoying because its halfway on my drive into town.

Weird indeed, maybe WiFi interference? Try turning off the phone WiFi and use Carplay hardwired during your commute.

I'd be curious if it does it with a wired CarPlay link via USB as well, if not, then it sounds like a wireless/CarPlay/radio tower negotiation balancing act that the phone's just having struggles maintaining.

If you interrupt CarPlay and swap to another function, how's that transition? Quick, slow, smooth?

I have tried changing songs while it was happing and it will switch eventually but the new song skips as well. After that I just canceled out of CarPlay and listened to the radio which worked great. So it seems to be a dedicated issues with the CarPlay.

Wouldn't happen to be near an airport, would it? I get that with the AA dongle I've had for a couple of years.

No airport, just a radio station with a radio tower. That's the only thing I can think of which would cause interference. Besides that I'm out in a bunch of fields.

I’ve got one spot along the highway near a mall and industrial park. Does exactly what you mention. I read something about RF interference being the culprit and left it at that.
