All I know is that there's a lot more about oil that I don't know, than I do know.
    Especially now.
I need to do research and get learned up. I want my V8 to last until I croak.
Or until they make gas engines illegal.

Whatever this forum told me to do
keep oil in it & the odds are with you. regardless of viscosity.

In AK I run 0w-20, and had no issues with it. Eventually I swapped to AMS oil, but anything that meets Toyota specs will be fine. I'd run whatever grade the manual recommends and call it a day.

The shop manual allows for a wide range. Choose what best suits the climate.

In the 2 years and 23,000 miles my Tundra has been started twice in temperatures between 32°F and 29°F. Probably only a dozen times lower than 40° F. This past oil change I used 5w30. I tow a ~6,000# trailer about 1,000 miles on each OC.

For me it is still the ability of the oil to flow quickly. I have been inside of a lot of engines and very rarely see metal on metal failures of the type that would be duplicated by the wear test that PF performed. I know that this is an industry test and does demonstrate the ability of the oil to prevent they kind of wear. Gear oil does even better in this application..... It is designed for this. So maybe we should run gear oil :) Oh, that is not really the intent behind engine oil........ Sorry, stirring the pot a little.
The failures that I have seen typically related to poor lubrication due to no oil flow (bad bearing, sloppy cam phaser, timing chain tensioner no longer holding pressure). Again, most of this wear is happening on cold start. The faster you can get oil there the better off you are. Probably the closest that I have seen is worn timing change guides but that was also in an engine that had run very low on oil.
The bigger problems have been related to dirty oil and build-up. This is were the heat bake was a great test!
Use good oil, change it regularly and make sure you are not running too thick for the temperature.

I like to keep it simple. My oil changes consist of the following. 2qt of Amsoil 0w-20 signature series 2 qts of NEO 5w-20 2qt of 5w-30 Penzoil platinum 1qt of 10-30 SuperTech and 1qt of 15w-40 shell. Also my filters are custom made and have OEM, Amsoil, KN and STP paper/cellulose media in it. It filter down to .000001 micron. And I do an oil change every 1k.

The argument to that is that thicker oil sticks to top end parts and creates a better film on the metal as opposed to the thinner oil which drains down back to the pan a lot more. I do agree the most important thing is just keeping clean oil in there though

This right here. Change it regularly, 5k for me, and it should last a long time. No oil will prevent a manufacturing defect. But my oil mixture is special and will last forever.
